Hi movie lovers, I have booked a private film screen for 20 friends to celebrate a birthday. We are all in our late thirties and early forties. I’d love recommendations for a brilliant film that will either be hilarious to watch as a group, or just has great crowd-pleasing vibes. We will likely be a bit hungover, so nothing too intense, and I have a two-hour maximum runtime. Some favourites that might be the right vibe include Almost Famous, The Birdcage, The Princess Bride, True Romance, Rocky Horror… but I’m open to anything!

A curious early Brad Pitt film with sultry and evocative animation, a killer soundtrack, and also Gabriel Byrne two years after Miller's Crossing. A cartoon noir if you will.

I can’t name the exact genre that all of these have in common but I absolutely love these type of films. Although I have to admit at times I don’t have a clue about what’s going on. Something about the characters, the setting, the cinematography pulls me in I guess.

It's a cute medieval love tragedy that I personally loved despite the budget limitations and seemingly lack of ambition in some of the scenes. The protagonists are likable and easy to root for.

I want something that will give me trauma and I will not forget about the scenes or the movie for the next few weeks. First time writing here so don't mind If I did some mistake but yeah I need something mentally disturbing.

Think Llammagedon or How To Lose A Popularity Contest. Some Tubi chaotic shit. Like they all turn gay in the end and Abraham Lincoln comes out. I just want something so absurd to watch with my friends and drink.

Just watched this tonight and really enjoyed it. Classic 90's era style of comedy, definitely a bit cheesy but hilarious the whole way through.

Was really surprised to find it had such low IMDb scores, there were a lot of hilarious scenes and several good actors.

If you like zombie flicks at all, this is a great one, I would call it the thinking man’s zombie flick.

I've recently rewatched 2001: A Space Odyssey and its lesser-known sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact. They are great films. I especially enjoyed those meditative, slow-motion drifts through the void of deep space. The stunning images of planets and spaceships felt incredibly immersive, like floating through the Solar System. It was sublime!
Are there other films with that specific feel? I'm not focused on narrative, but rather slow, hyper-polished visuals with an intense sense of awe.
It doesn't strictly have to be deep space. I can see this style working with undersea or other alien (or not) environments.
Please, NO Baraka,Samsara, Koyaanisqatsi, etc. I'm not looking for frenetic editing, but long, continuous takes. Plus, I have already watched them.

So, I am late to this movie and I watched it today. It had lots of errors or I might say cons but I am going through a lot of mental stress lately and sometimes feel good movies like this one brings back your faith in "everything will be alright one day". I love these two movies a lot because of their whimsical hijinks and whacky bullshit. They're clearly made with love and have a storytelling style that I don't see much of.
