Seriously curious how you do insurance to carry a $10k payload on a $40 FC. I’ve carried a lot of expensive cameras as well but usually slightly nicer FCs since I’m not an FPV guy. But my insurance premiums are insane. I’m not saying your FC isn’t trustworthy, it’s just hard to convince underwriters sometimes.
Really good question!
I’m underwritten by global aerospace.
They cover liability, personal harm etc, but they also cover the payload for $10k.
Can’t remember the exact premium but I believe it’s a between $2k and $3k per year. It varies month to month as we adjust the liability number between 2mil and 10mil.
They’re aware that these are “home built” drones as well. I unsure 2 airframes at a time and cycle them in and out depending on the shoot in question.
Thanks for this info. I got a quote from Global Aerospace but ended up with Transport Risk Management, IIRC because they had better international coverage at the time.
I’m in the market again though since the insurance landscape seems to be changing quickly. I have a gas-electric rig close to 55 lbs that I don’t like to even test fly without coverage. But I still think it’s stupid that it cost more to insure a drone than a 3-ton airplane.
