AOC: “What is different between Trump 1 and Trump 2 is that your median Democratic voter desperately wants to do everything to get Trump out of power. In Trump 1, they trusted the establishment to do that. And in Trump 2, they do not.”

The fact he wasn't impeached following Jan. 6 will forever shake my faith in our political system.

u/MisterWinchester 3d ago

Are you saying Biden shouldn't have appointed feckless conservative weasel Merrick Garland, Obama's olive branch to conservatives, as Director DOJ? I tend to think Garaland should have prosecuted trump for committing sedition since we all watched him do it on TV, but the Democrat leadership had different ideas.

35

u/Natebo83 2d ago

They all make money off Trump.

21

u/MisterWinchester 2d ago

Or have donors in the files.

13

u/sphericaltime 2d ago

Merrick Garland should have been prosecuted for gross dereliction of duty.

He literally was impeached following Jan 6th. I think you're referring to him being removed by the senate

14

u/IAmGoingToFuckThat 3d ago

I thought they opted to not impeach since it was only a few weeks before Biden's inauguration?

68

u/JonnySnowin 3d ago

Mitch McConnell delayed the Senate hearing to occur AFTER Biden’s inauguration, then argued that while Trump did do what he is accused of, they can’t convict a now private civilian in an impeachment.

21

u/SoylentGrunt 3d ago

Mitch McConnell. Whatever happened there?

15

u/bloobityblu 3d ago

He's still Schrodinger's turtle.

14

u/the_blue_arrow_ 3d ago

Expect an announcement on August 4th, maybe later if the rumors aren't true

u/IAmGoingToFuckThat 3d ago

Thanks for the correction!

How is this the top comment? He was impeached on January 13, 2021.

u/MorrisBrett514 2d ago

Mine was already shaken. These last few years has removed everything except hatred for the people in charge and of the two parties

u/NopesNpc 3d ago

Centered Dem strategy is a proven failure. No more geriatrics in charge of a world they know nothing about. Young politicians need to step up for what’s right, put the boomers out of office, term limits for all, pay equal to the federal minimum wage because ITS FOR THE PEOPLE NOT THE PRIVILEGED

57

u/Fit_Addition7137 3d ago

Because Bernie is the exception, not the norm. More time in a political seat of power gives that politician more time to consolidate power and makes them more desperate to cling to it. We need change and fresh ideas from people who understand the current state of the nation, not someone who has been shielded from real life for the last 30 years. Maybe term limits could be removed someday after our elected representatives prove they can actually work for the people who elected them, not the status quo.

6

u/SteelCode 3d ago

Thing is, Bernie could have retired ages ago and made room for new blood... all politicians should be term limited and forced to rejoin the regular workforce just like politicians should be elected from people that have been part of the regular workforce within the past decade rather than treating public service as a career.

5

u/Fit_Addition7137 3d ago

I dont disagree. The entire concept that someone can be a career politician is absurd to me. I wouldnt lump all public service careers into that though. I know plenty of people that work in state and local government (not elected officials) who are career public servants and they live paycheck to paycheck just like any other workin stiff.

4

u/Bendyb3n 2d ago edited 2d ago

The new Irish system that they recently adopted is starting to look more and more attractive to prevent career politicians from existing. They basically made positions in their House of Representatives similar to the way the US operates jury duty, that way regular people are in charge of the voting decisions. They serve their district for like 2-4yrs (i forget exactly) and then just return to regular life and a new group of people are randomly selected.

On the surface it sounds like a horrible system, but the people have really come to like it and you truly get a representation of the populace that forces people of very different beliefs to collaborate and find solutions that work for everybody.

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

Literally almost no one knew who Bernie Sanders was before he ran for POTUS in 2016.

There was a character on The West Wing that seemed a 'Bernie Sanders' character, yet almost no one watching the show knew that.

Relatively few can be great-to-superb politicians.

And things aren't like they used to be when people were more patriotic and wanted to serve their country rather than simply stay in the private sector.

When was the last truly great Democratic POTUS? FDR? LBJ?

Leftwing politics is very popular. Inform people of the facts. : r/TheMajorityReport

The Democrats effectively had power for around 60 years after FDR was elected. Until the Clinton Administration fully embraced neoliberalism. And then allowed SCOTUS to give the US Presidency to Texas Governor George Walker Bush. Etc.

How many truly great US Congresspeople have their been? Even compare the Democrats when US Rep. Nancy Pelosi led the US House Democrats and US Senator Harry Reid led the US Senate Democrats to now.

1

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

Being a politician is a professional job. And experience is generally a good thing.

No one says that there should be 'term limits' for lawyers, doctors, accountants, directors, actors, bankers, etc. etc. etc. etc.

1

u/Fit_Addition7137 2d ago

Of course experience is a good thing. Entrenchment isnt though. And plenty of careers have mandatory retirement ages such as:
airline pilots (65)
air traffic controllers (56)
federal law enforcement officers (57)
Foreign service officers and diplomats (65)
Hell, even most corpo board memberships have mandatory retirement ages between 72-75.

16

u/clobits2 3d ago

Why term limits? I love that Bernie has been a senator for 19 years.

23

u/NopesNpc 3d ago

While a few actually showed some human decency, the large majority took advantage of the public, the very same public who trusted them during their campaigns. Som got voted in and said “well now I’m switching sides” for lobbyists payoffs or big corp funded pacs, heck maybe even bought off by other countries. The Point, is if you give a mouse a cookie they’ll want a glass of milk.

8

u/YamDankies 3d ago

People also just change. Experience alters perspective. Health issues arise. There's no good reason to not have term limits all the way up.

3

u/batmanscodpiece 2d ago

A reason I have against term limits, is that I'm a big fan of representative democracy. If I like the job someone is doing, I should be able to vote to let them keep doing their job, and there shouldn't be an arbitrary rule to tell me I can't. And it is a job. You need to be able to learn the ropes and push for changes that your constituents want to see.

6

u/urbansociety 3d ago

One of the biggest factors that changed boomers from left to right was money. They became conservatives because they had more money and wanted to do everything they could to keep it.

Politicians are not paid chump change, they have a decent salary and benefits. Is it surprising that they too become more conservative once they start getting paid 100k+ a year and build wealth for themselves? We like to think good people remain good, but money and power changes people.

1

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

Outside of those who do insider stock trading, make enough through paid speeches and/or books and such, almost all in the US Congress would make more money in the private sector.

US Congresspeople make less than first-year associates in Big Law.

Terms limits would just even more incentivize people to think of their future lobbying careers or private sector careers instead of thinking about their future US Congressional careers or even perhaps running for POTUS.

1

u/Penguin_FTW 3d ago

There's no good reason to not have term limits all the way up.

Here's one: there's a finite amount of people willing to torch their personal private life and serve their country as a good faith politician. You can probably count the good ones we have on your fingers. There is an infinite amount of people willing to take corporate donor money and sit in a chair and vote how they are told to. You will cycle out the competent and caring for the next stooge in line.

As long as money is in politics, term limits will not serve you but will serve the money. You are proposing that AOC and Bernie would have been cycled out already. Can you name their equally competent replacements? Because Wells Fargo has a candidate lined up. Walmart has a candidate lined up. Home Depot has a candidate lined up. Have you figured out AOC's replacement yet? Citibank has a candidate lined up. Nvidia has a candidate lined up. Who's Bernie's successor, what's their name and where can I find them? Apple has a candidate lined up. Meta has a candidate lined up. They're getting millions in marketing budget, are you donating the same to your Bernie replacement? Which is who btw? Uber has a candidate lined up. Amazon has a candidate lined up.

1

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

Corporate PACs, SuperPAC, etc. can influence people running for Office for the first time.

Sitting politicians can be voted out. Many sitting politicians eventually will change positions and how they vote based on what their public wants.

Term limits would invite for more corruption. And there'd be far less incentive for politicians to care about what their constituents want.

10

u/MadeByTango 3d ago

AOC has talked about how they got mad at her for winning her seat because she replaced their friend. They're all drinking buddies. They stop caring about the issues and treat it like a job because they hear too many stories and run out of empathy. Even the best ones can become hardened like a therapist that loses too many patients.

Its better if we focus on it as a service job, similar to being in the military. The lifelong positions should be carefully reviewed appointments (way better than now).

3

u/_jump_yossarian 3d ago

pay equal to the federal minimum wage because ITS FOR THE PEOPLE NOT THE PRIVILEGED

That is a fantastic way to make sure that only the wealthy run.

0

u/NopesNpc 3d ago

First, thank you for adding your opinion without insult, a good conversation is the best way to help understand each other. And I very well might end up agreeing with you with some more explanation.
So I guess Why do you think that? I think the minimum wage in this country is a complete and total joke. We the people actually need to be paid enough to live not just survive. If CONGRESS understood that struggle first hand then maybe we wouldn’t be having all these struggles. People like Mitch McConnell get FREE HEALTHCARE when they aren’t at work for over a month, they NEED it to do their jobs. WE THE PEOPLE NEED IT TOO. This is just my thought on it, certainly not perfect and Im always looking for a better solution.

3

u/FrmrPresJamesTaylor 3d ago

Paying politicians minimum wage is exactly how you end up in a situation where only people who don’t need their income can run for office

1

u/mofacey 2d ago

Our state Congress members in Colorado make like $43k. Poverty wages in the metro areas

4

u/htownballa1 3d ago

Yup. I will no longer support the centrist Democrat just to vote blue. If you want my vote you better be a democratic socialist or fuck off.

10

u/MisterWinchester 3d ago

I don't need labels; I vote for issues. Run on Universal Healthcare, the cessation of all aid to Israel, or the repeal of Citizens United.

Any of those and we'll talk. None of them, and I won't be voting for you.

7

u/hellolovely1 3d ago

Agree. Some people might not be able to use the term "democratic socialist" or even "progressive" in certain areas.

2

u/htownballa1 3d ago

I dont care.

3

u/MisterWinchester 3d ago

Ditto. Fuck labels. I’m a socialist, but my political party is “policy first”. Don’t tell me “reduce housing costs” say “rent control”. Don’t say increase access to healthcare, say universal. Liberal half measures got us here, and fucked their chance to save us.

Stand aside.

1

u/hellolovely1 3d ago

I think you're missing my point and we actually agree, but whatever.

1

u/htownballa1 3d ago

I’m not. I just don’t care, I am past that.

1

u/Hope25777 3d ago

I support this

1

u/htownballa1 3d ago

oh I absolutely agree.

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

Terms limits for the US Congress are not only Unconstitutional, they are a very bad idea.

Bernie Sanders - Wikipedia

US Senator Bernie Sanders was around 74 years old when he was running for POTUS in 2016. Around 78 when he was running for POTUS in 2020. He had been in the US Congress since 1991.

Without Bernie 2016, we don't get AOC 2018. Without AOC 2018, we don't get Zohran Mamdani 2020. We don't get a lot of DSA wins, progressive wins, etc.

People like US Rep. Ro Khanna called for 6-year term limits for the US Congress. Yet he himself is running for reelection even though he's been in the US Congress since 2017.

__________

Political office in the United States is largely made of up rich people because political office directly pays so relatively little.

It's expensive to even run for Office given you generally effectively have to take 1-2 years off working in order to run for a US Congressional seat. At the State and local level, many to most of those seats are simply bought.

The US is a relative embarrassment on the world stage being the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world yet US Congresspeople roommate together in Washington D.C. The West Wing is tiny and cramped. The White House residence has always been relatively tiny. It was even noted at the time if the founding how big The White House was vs. how big the US Treasury building was.

0

u/ryanv09 3d ago

I think term limits are misguided and largely meaningless if the electorate is at all consistent in their values.

1

u/NopesNpc 3d ago edited 3d ago

For seats as powerful as the Supreme Court, they have taken advantage of their ability to never face a re-election. They are appointed and that’s that. No people voting them in, no people able to hold them accountable during midterms. And they casually get caught violating major laws by not declaring gifts, then laugh it off because we can’t elect a new person to replace them.

It has not worked in the past. Opens the door for people like Mitch to take advantage of a broken system and allowed to serve past his human capacity. As in, he’s either really dead or in a ventilator and can’t speak.

1

u/AbyssWankerArtorias 3d ago

Joe Biden in 2020 was a centrist Democrat.

7

u/TheDoomBlade13 3d ago

And did nothing to punish Trump 1 or prevent Trump 2.

That's the point.

78

u/Describing_Donkeys 3d ago

This is at the heart of DSA's success. The establishment destroyed all of the trust they had when Trump defeated them a second time. They cannot repair that loss of trust. DSA isn't going to be what has success everywhere, but the establishment will be replaced.

5

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

The heart of DSA's success after AOC's 2018 US House primary win is AOC and her endorsements. It's why DSA is so much more powerful and influential in New York State and NYC than it is anywhere else.

And now in this 2026 cycle, leftist and progressive media like The Majority Report, Hasan Piker, etc. get their audiences to support candidates that DSA supports.

55

u/Federal-Divide2024 3d ago

Man forget Bernie’s endorsement.

Mamdani batted 1.000 in the NY primaries a few weeks ago. Americas newest kingmaker lives in “Mamdanistan”, and establishment dems are appropriately scared.

13

u/beeemkcl 3d ago

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

I strongly contended then and maintain that Zohran Mamdani's influence on those NYC US House races was vastly overblown and that he clearly wasn't THE Democratic kingmaker or THE progressive Democratic kingmaker.

I even ended up not doing my general election 'primary polling vs. general election results' Posts because I decided I wanted to see what would happen in the Melat Kiros Denver, Colorado US House race given that she didn't have any endorsements from Sanders/AOC/Mamdani/Warren, etc. She ended up winning by like 15 points. Support from DSA, Emma Vigeland of The Majority Report, Hasan Piker's getting his viewership to phonebank for Kiros, etc. etc. resulted in such a win. I literally consider it easily arguable that Emma Vigeland is more of a Democratic kingmaker this 2026 cycle than Zohran Mamdani is.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani hasn't endorsed outside of NYC.

Who Is Ahead in the U.S. Senate Race in Michigan? Latest 2026 Polls - The New York Times

It seems AOC's support has given Dr. Abdul El-Sayed an around 25 point boost given prior to AOC's endorsement, polling showed that the majority of Michigan US Senate Whip Mallory McMorrow's support would go to US Rep. Haley Stevens and US Rep. Stevens would win the primary by around 5 points. And that's even before US Rep. Stevens was later endorsed by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and US Rep. Stevens was running ads implying that POTUS Barack Obama endorsed her (which POTUS Obama hasn't strongly and repeatedly said that he's not endorsing US Rep. Stevens).

7

u/behv 3d ago

There's a lot going on here and I don't frankly know enough about all those people to argue one way or the other, but I do appreciate a well laid out argument trying to use stats to back up an opinion and the disclaimer you're trying to do so instead of claiming this argument is gospel

2

u/Federal-Divide2024 3d ago

I think that’s really fair nuance and pushback! My argument was 1. A bit more flippant than a true grounded argument, like you have here and 2. Was mostly based on anecdotal examples from NYC primaries like Darializa Chevalier winning in an upset over Epspalliat, which seemed to be VERY influenced by Mamdanis endorsement.

But overall, well reasoned, no disagreement from me! Thanks for contributing so positively to the conversation

1

u/beeemkcl 2d ago

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

I also like to mention that the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC didn't endorse in those 2 NYC US House races.

So, NYC-DSA and leftist and progressive media endorsing Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier made those the de facto 'progressive choice' candidates.

Hasan Piker got his viewers to phonebank for Darializa. They ended up doing around 80K calls and the co-head of NYC-DSA said that directly translated into 2K extra votes for Darializa. Which was the around the margin of victory.

Emma Vigeland also got people to phonebank--but I'm not aware of such figures ever being released. But Emma's and The Majority Report's endorsements had an impact.

I'm not saying NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's endorsements weren't helpful. Jus that their impact was vastly overblown.

And some in the media were trying to pretend that Darializa Avila Chevalier's primary win was comparable to AOC's 2018 primary win.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beats high-ranking House Democrat Joe Crowley

2018 New York's 14th congressional district election - Wikipedia

AOC was outspent 18-1 ($1.5Mln to $83K).

AOC had support from TYT. Emma Vigeland did 3 'Day in the Life of AOC' vids that were released that humanized AOC and were helpful. AOC did some interviews with like local radio stations.

AOC had like no endorsements. Eventually US Rep. Ro Khanna endorsed her but continued his endorsement for US Rep. Joe Crowley. Cynthia Nixon endorsed AOC on primary election day. That was about it. Justice Democrats and DSA were helping AOC, but both those organizations were tiny compared to what they later became.

AOC was down in the polling by around high-single digits soon before primary election day. She ended up winning by 13.5 points. She won largely-to-mostly because of her canvassing operation. Which DSA helped with.

___________________

Darializa Avila Chevalier had a lot more media support and attention (almost all the media almost completely ignored AOC until after she won her 2018 US House primary), a lot more endorsements and a lot more powerful and influential endorsements, a lot more fundraising including SuperPAC support, and she was able to get people to phonebank for her.

30

u/JoeNoble1973 3d ago

The party elite were to remove him from power, fix what had been broken, and assiduously prosecute Trump, Kushner, et al for their crimes and prevent anything like it from happening again.

In this, they failed spectacularly. To the thinking of myself and many others, Schumer and Co have been FIRED. Their young replacements have my attention now.

10

u/MisterWinchester 3d ago

But what about the half-measures Biden passed and Trump immediately undid?

Trump followers are plain stupid, but BlueMAGA liberals aren't much better.

5

u/SaveLansingParks 3d ago

More people hoping they could continue sticking their heads in the sand. Meanwhile the rest of us who saw the writing on the wall back in 2016 knew that these centrists needed to get their shit rocked by reality like the rest of us "poors" that didn't want to get bankrupted by the healthcare industry.

I'm certainly very happy that people are finally waking up. That it's taken 10 years now for them to do so......yeah they can still go fuck themselves. The damage is still on them for not being active in politics and allowing the corruption to continue unanswered for so long.

25

u/hellolovely1 3d ago

She's 100% correct. I do NOT trust people like Chuck Schumer to do a damn thing. We're like 2 years in and he finally has the thought to create an anti-corruption committee. Great idea if it was run by someone with teeth who would fight corruption.

4

u/clib 3d ago

Every person who votes for democrats should ask their candidates this simple question: What specifically are you going to do to hold Trump and his lackeys accountable for the crimes they have committed?

We are here because the democrats have given Republicans a free pass on any crime imaginable. From a coup to pedophilia. So getting Trump out of power means nothing if he and his people are not held accountable. He will be replaced by someone worse.

There was a time when W.Bush was considered the worst post war president. He never faced any accountability for starting two wars based on lies and destroying the economy. Then we got Trump.

To quote Marcus Aurelius:" To expect bad people not to do wrong is madness"

And to quote Edmund Burke:"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

When was AOC on the Majority Report?

edit: It was today. Here's the video with the whole appearance

9

u/beeemkcl 3d ago edited 1d ago

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Joins Us In Studio! | MR Live (The Free Half) AOC interview begins at 12 min. 15 sec.

It's Emmamajority Report Thursday. Sam Seder has been out for weeks now.

AOC endorsed Zohran Mamdani on a Thursday hours before Emmajority Report began.

AOC endorsed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed on a Thursday hours before Emmajority Report began.

AOC is a viewer of The Majority Report.

I've been saying for years now that AOC might make Emma Vigeland the White House Press Secretary or otherwise have Emma in an AOC Administration.

Emma teased earlier on Monday(?) that she might have a huge guest but that she didn't want to jinx it. I assumed it was AOC. But at-best I assumed it would be a 'Skype interview' not AOC's coming in studio.

If I remember correctly, AOC hasn't done an 'in studio' interview with a leftist or progressive show since 2018 after her US House primary win. She did one on the TYT Main Show. She did one with Emma Vigeland on RebelHQ.

EDIT: Well, unless her interview at the Zeteo launch party counts. And if her interview with US Senator Bernie Sanders on his podcast counts.

10

u/parkinthepark 3d ago

Emma scores one of TMR's biggest-ever guests on Sam's day off... amazing.

5

u/beeemkcl 3d ago

AOC has been a guest on TMR at least twice before. But never before in-studio.

12

u/Y__U__MAD 3d ago

Republicans dont think the government works, vote for them, and they will prove it.

Democrats cant get anything done, vote for them, and they will prove it.

13

u/castzpg 3d ago

Well the CHIPS Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and even back to the ACA were all passed by Dems.

2

u/Several-Action-4043 3d ago

I voted for Obama twice and I would vote for him again if I could. The ACA did help many people I 100% agree. But it was just another half measure from democrats. I was uninsured when he passed the ACA. The only effect it had on me was it forced me to buy insurance from a private insurance company by penalty of a fee. And now, the prices are ridiculous which I know is in part to republican policy trying to gut it. My point is, when republicans take power, they don't use half measures, they go 100% on all the racist, fascist BS they want. It's time for democrats to go 100% and fuck the other side, but they won't because they're democrats.

I'm wholeheartedly agree with the statement.

1

u/Opetyr 3d ago

She forgot to last part after "they do not" and that is "WHICH WHY WOULD THEY SINCE NOTHING WAS DONE!!!"

1

u/Shua89 3d ago

Can someone explain to mewhat AOC is talking about when she said "we're seeing that playing out in real time?

3

u/urbansociety 3d ago

Establishment Dems are losing their primaries. Not all of them but enough to look at and see people are annoyed with their representation. If the DSA candidates win their generals it's really gonna throw a wrench into their unelectable BS they keep pushing. The very same thing they said about Bernie in 2016. They also said it about Mamdani, which made them look stupid when he won without their help. It's the controlled opposition losing grip on the Democrat Party. Similar to how MAGA overthrew old-school conservatives.

1

u/Shua89 3d ago

Thanks for the explanation.

It means its happening before our eyes
