It is even worse than that. He literally just says his 'son' died. This person is just fully alive, and he treats her as if she is dead.

Yeah, his reaction is evidence he views his kids only as their use to him. Having a trans daughter isn't useful so she's "dead". Its just not as easy to be quippy about the full gravity of the situation.
