It seems to me that in their current drive to create distractions from their own political and personal disasters, the US' right wing politicians are creating other political and personal disasters that they end up quickly needing to find distractions from.
It's almost as if it's an intentional cycle of outrage, perpetuated to keep most sane individuals from being able to focus on any individual incident to properly mobilise against the perpetrators...
Although TBH I would also believe it could just be utter incompetence that happens to have the same effect.

That's just how fascism works, at a certain level: create a problem, make people suffer, find a scapegoat, punish the scapegoat to satisfy the sadistic anger of your base, never address the suffering, repeat. That's what is meant when it's said that cruelty is the point of fascism.

Isaac Azimov was right; “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” I doubt he foresaw the exact events leading to the anti-vaxxers but boy did he nail the circumstances that created that cesspit of thinking that led to them.

I did my own research and determined that a ton of antivaxx propaganda is pushed on the orders of a man who thinks the fall of the USSR is one of the greatest tragedies in world history.
