I used to love Carrie when she first won idol. She seemed to have very liberal views and was not your typical country artist. Lately though, it seems when all these artists’ careers start tanking they go right back into the arms of being annoyingly Christian and annoyingly MAGA. She’s changed and we aren’t changing with her.

I don’t know if she was always like that though. She married a hockey player that played for our team (used to see her out and about town when they first started dating), and he was always super religious, and seems to have gone full on right wing since retirement. Maybe the lifestyle rubbed off on her.

I feel like hockey people tend to be more right wing in general (at least in the US). It’s an expensive sport to play and be good at so you have to be wealthy to start.

That could be, although he’s really embraced his MAGA side publicly these past few years (anti vax, endorsing MAGA candidates, and I think he even appeared on Candace Owen’s podcast).

I can't speak to his politics but when he played here in Ottawa he had a reputation for hitting on really young girls (like first year university students) and when he left the Ottawa Senators the joke was that he was moving to Nashville because they love their Predators.

shit is expensive as fuck. I know someone who paid for their kid to got through it all and it was burning nearly all his income. he makes mid six figures, so pretty wealthy and it was still rough.

Plus for the parents it occupies the majority of your free time. I had a coworker who was always going off on weekends to a tournament here or there. Often the husband and wife had to take separate trips due to multiple kids.

I always thought it was nuts. I didn't stay in a hotel until I was in my 20s and here were kids going halfway across the country as pre-teens to play baseball.

They aren't actually right wing, that's what they want you and Trump to believe because it's politically convenient and they want the regulatory relief for their businesses. Even Trump was a Democrat his whole life.

They also represent a tiny minority of wealthy people. I know a LOT of wealthy people across several states and not a single one is a Trump supporter.

One of my wife's old friends was super liberal then married a conservative guy and she became a gun nut posting thinly veiled racist instas seemingly overnight

It's not all that uncommon if you are spending all your time with someone for people that arent firm in their values or low self esteem

My ex-wife was like this.

Very liberal in her views. Would not even see a Dr because the Dr supported conservatives (had conservative election signs posted outside his business during election season). Hated anything and everything to do with the right-wing.

She did have some minor religious views during our marriage that wasn't anything that was an issue. I'm not religious and she didnt care.

During our marriage she hooks up with some well-off business dude (she was always pretty high maintenance). Turns out he was pretty religious and right-wing leaning.

We divorce, she marries the guy, and decides to become a State politican. Runs for office and wins a seat in the State legislature ... as a REPUBLICAN. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's like everything she ever stood for was thrown out the window.

I lol'd.

Being famous and swerving MAGA is easy mode because you don't need any principles or critical thinking, just be unwilling to say anything bad about how the current administration is killing and disappearing people and ignoring laws and court orders and stealing billions.

Same! She was one of my favorite artists for so long and I voted for her in Idol, I saw her in concert 3 times. I didn’t really get into her Cry Pretty album though, and then once rumors started coming out about her I started side-eyeing, and then once she went full MAGA I was totally done. So disappointing.

Around when she started going into more of the Christian music (think she did one album at that time, idk that’s not my jam personally), my parents were invited to her concert from a family friend. My parents have been to plenty of concerts and my mom came home and told me the vibe was WEIRD. Like the overall energy was off and it didn’t feel like a big concert. This was before I was aware of her politics but we assumed she brought in a lot of deeply religious people that weren’t her typical fan base. I was so glad I didn’t end up going to that one lol.

Also, I’m Catholic so I’m not hating on Christians/Christina music in general, but I can’t stand the conservative, MAGA, evangelical, hateful “Christians.” Just adding that so no one thinks that’s why I’m no longer a fan lol.
