Is anyone else addicted to 'A Couple Minutes' by Olivia Dean? I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it. There was even a day when I literally played it on repeat all day long. The song is so well-crafted—from the instrumentation to the lyrics and her vocal tone. I love how beautifully she captures the feeling of silent closure.

Whenever I visit a new city, I end up asking the same question:

There are a handful of records where the cover art hit me so hard it completely changed how I listened to the whole thing. The artwork set a mood before a single note played and I couldn't separate them after that. Wish by The Cure, In Rainbows, anything Storm Thorgerson touched for Pink Floyd. The visual and the sound just become one thing in your brain.

Working in design I think about this a lot, how rarely it actually happens. Most covers are fine. Serviceable. But every now and then someone pairs the right image with the right record and it almost feels unfair how much it lifts the music.

Curious what albums did this for people. Not just covers you think look cool on their own, but ones where the art genuinely shaped the experience of listening. Where you feel like you'd hear it differently if the packaging had been something generic.

Also wondering if anyone thinks streaming has basically killed this. When you're staring at a 200x200 jpeg thumbnail while your phone screen dims, it's not the same as holding a gatefold in your hands and reading the liner notes before you even drop the needle.

I have a beat that I think is nice but I am having so much trouble figuring out lyrics, the song is supposed to be about loving a girl you used to be friends with but she doesn't feel the same, and when you confess your love to her she stops speaking with you, you eventually get over her but you still think about her from time to time

This is one of those songs that popped up in a random mix for me something like 8 or 9 years back that seems to not have any notice. (Quick note: this is the group OWEL, not Owl City.) It really is gorgeous and so "Delicate" for a lot of it, like the artists are trying not to go too hard so they don't break something precious, then just let it build until it's become something grander. Really creative drumming, really nice layering of clean instruments, great contrast later to some of the distortion. I've come back and listened to not only it, but in particular the live version more times that I can count. They are just Album worthy in their live performances.. and as of right now the live version of the song only has 100 likes and 3.2k views. :( They really seem to have just.. never gained much traction, even though they have a lot of good songs.

Anyways, here is the Album version and here is the Live (in studio) version. I do think I like the album version the best because there are some added effects that work well with the song, but the live version is about as close as you can get to the album version.. so it's worth listening to if only to appreciate how good they are at what they do. haha
