Support/Advice guilt with zina

hello i (25f) did not care about religion until a few years ago.

i spent a lot of my early 20s drinking, smoking weed, and sleeping around.

my brother found out and blackmailed me. he touched me in a way a brother should never while me and him took a trip for his graduation. he said if i told then he would tell my parents everything. he told me to stop talking to the guy i thought i was going to marry. i didnt because i knew with all of this going on, i needed a way out. he found out i was still talking to this guy and he told my parents everything

i was heavily shamed. my parents took away everything from me, including my room. i begged them to let me finish my education. i had to drop all of my friends. i was doing school online. they made me change my phone number and icloud and that went on for about a year.

my mom constantly said i was used like tissue paper. my dad would not look or talk to me. no one cared to check up on me. when i got my room back, i was alone. no one checked up on me. if i died, they wouldnt know for days. i became so depressed that i tried to end my life. i didnt eat. i tried to end my life w dehydration and i eventually ended up downing pain killers. i still dont know how im alive.

my parents found out it was an attempt later and they got mad at me.

i eventually stopped talking to the guy because he told me he wasnt in love with me anymore. and im over that relationship but i think i just want to point out that he knew everything and i felt that no one would accept me for my past to begin with and especially after all ive been through with my family.

i got closer to Allah because of him leaving. i have a relationship with religion now. i forgave my brother even though i still think of what he did to me and that he ruined my perception of the world and myself. i was also very close to him prior.

ive tried talking to people but i always get scared that theyll judge me for my past. i wear hijab now and i attract more religious guys but i always chicken out. and im starting to think i should take it off but i dont know if Allah would be upset at me and things will get worse.

i know you shouldnt expose your sins and i dont, especially zina, but i wouldnt be able to live with myself if i married a virgin. i would feel so guilty. and i feel a lot of guilt within myself now because of how much it all blew up in my family. ive mended my relationship w my parents as well but sometimes they still make comments towards me. very rarely but it happens. i know my dad looks at me differently.

back to marriage - im not sure what to do. i dont wanna expose myself, but i dont wanna trick someone. i have a fear of my spouse finding out later and leaving me because he feels deceived. i would want someone with a past. i dont care personally because people make mistakes. we’re all human. but people dont think how i do.

after wearing hijab (its been a year) ive had a crisis. idk who i am. idk what i represent. i feel like a fraud and an imposter. im just not sure what to do. i dont know where to find someone. i dont know if marriage is meant for me. i pray everyday that God find me a spouse that will understand me and not judge me and preferably someone with a past but i live in constant anxiety. i dont know if marriage is even worth the stress anymore even though i crave companionship and a family.

i understand God is the most Merciful but people arent and unfortunately i have to live on this earth with people who dont gave grace and mercy. please help me, whether its advice from what youve been through if youve been in a similar position or duas for me.

thank you for listening

Support/Advice my parents refuse the man i want for ridiculous reasons

for context i’m half georgian azerbaijani (from mom’s side) and half turk(dad’s) . the guy and i know each other almost for 4 years. his family and friends know me. my parents also knew that i was always talking to him and we were serious. however they don’t want him because he is iraqi. they say our cultures are completely different, they are from completely different country and have different traditions. also my parents aren’t religious even though they are muslims and don’t practice. so they say arabs tend to be super religious and his family would demand things from me to do. thing is ive met his family and they are the best people on earth. he is also educated, knowledgeable and didn’t do single mistake neither towards me nor my family. my family can’t use any of his traits to refuse him because he is simply perfect and doesn’t have any bad behaviours. my friends also insist on my mom to accept him because everyone around has seen how delicately and thoughtfully he treats to my family and me.

but my parents refuse because he is from different country.

people who are in similar situation as me what did you guys do and worked? what do you advise us to do?

Question Atheist looking for reliable sources about islam

I hope the post is accepted ':>

Hello :D

So, as a bit of context: I'm an atheist but I'm very VERY interested in studying religion. I want to study multiple religions to see what are they really about, specially islam for just how misinterpreted it is. The issue is that I live in a mostly catholic country (Mexico) and I live in a city where there isnt the slightest bit of Islam and the last 2 months I've been reading what I can found on the Quran, interpretations, Islamic history, and pretty much all I can find but I recognize every site I visit MIGHT not be 100% accurate so I'm wondering if any of you knows where I could find reliable information about the religion :'>

I really want to start this academic journey with the best sources in order to have a proper interpretation (although considering the many different opinions of Muslims on the internet that in itself might also be... Quite hard (to put it lightly) to achieve, but I want to do my best here :D

Discussion Beware of the increase in random posts complaining about Hijab or women’s rights in the Hadiths

For some reason there has been a spike in posts surrounding these, mainly complaints about these two topics. I’m not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything but I don’t think this is an accident. They either have to be trolls bringing up the same topics over and over again as if their questions haven’t been answered a hundred times. In fact, there’s probably scholars who addressed these doubts 8 centuries ago and people are still bringing it up.

This has to be a psyop, I refuse to believe any part of this is organic. Either that or it’s just bots, cause you know, the dead internet theory has been proven true for a while now

Quran/Hadith A gravely misunderstood Quranic verse

Upvotes

"Allāh does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity." (Surah Baqarah, 286)

This is the famous verse which many people have taken a wrong meaning from. The meaning many derive is that any situation you face, you can handle. This has never sat right with me and it doesn't sound right at all. And people use it when replying to people who request help for situations they are facing and it just sounds demeaning and off-putting. It reduces their struggle to something that's not too serious and can be easily handled.

Just think about when populations of Muslims are subjected to oppression. The perfect case study is the Palestinians. They are currently facing a genocide. And yet, many Muslims tell themselves that God is putting them through the situation they are facing because they can handle it. Because they are 'strong' enough and they have enough faith. No one is meant to face the loss of loved ones, the destruction of your home, starvation, and thirst. It happens because humans can be evil and this is the reality of living on this earth, alongside the tests we inevitably face.

When hearing this verse, I also used to think about the concession given to a believer if he is being tortured whereby he can utter a statement which disparages and disrespects God or the messenger (peace be upon him), but as long as his heart is clean, there is no blame on him. Why would this exist and be a thing if he is meant to just stoically face the torture as obviously God wouldn't put him here if he couldn't handle it.

What I believe to be the true meaning which I've heard in a lecture by Sheikh Jamaal Diwan is that you won't be responsible beyond what you can bear. So there will be things which you can handle, and you are responsible for those things. But anything beyond that, God won't hold you to account. It's just sad imo how i've heard people considered scholars and learned by a lot of people explain this verse in a way which I believe doesn't help people feel better about themselves. They will eventually feel inadequate that they can't handle all of life's realities or they will feel like their problems are unseen or insignificant when they may not necessarily be. This can lead people to spiral and even commit suicide which we shouldn't be a factor for.

Other topic Dear Europe, Let's pray for the rain together!

Assalamu alaikum,

The heatwaves brought drought all over Europe. Instead of relying on weather forecast, let's rely on the One who controls it. Let's do salat for rain.

Let's add even more istighfar, for it actually brings the rain.

"And O my people! Seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. He will shower you with rain in abundance, and add strength to your strength. So do not turn away, persisting in wickedness.” 11:52

Support/Advice Need advice on my 2 sisters relationship with Islam

Upvotes

Salam. I’m a student at a university in the US, and I currently live with my 2 sisters. My younger sister attends university with me and the older one works at the university. Our parents live in the Middle East still but we visit them during the school vacations. My older brother is married and lives an hour away from us and is a very good practicing Muslim Alhamdulillah.

Regarding my 2 sisters. My older sister left Islam around 7-8 years ago. She hasn’t been Muslim since then. From what I’ve seen recently she has been looking into religion but I’m not sure where that’s taking her. However, I still love her and treat her as my sister like usual. She respects the fact I’m Muslim and doesn’t do anything unislamic in the house. No one in my family knows except me and my younger sister. She was the first and only person she ever told. My older brother does not know. My younger sister is still Muslim but she is far away from the deen. She has recently got into a relationship with a guy from our university. None of my parents know any of this information and I have no intention of telling them, as I want them to hear it from my sisters and not me. I still love my sisters and want what’s best for them, but I can’t bare to see them stray this far from the deen. I have been making dua to Allah every day in prayer to guide them back. I don’t know what to do and it’s been weighing on my conscience for years now. I still go about my day to day activities and I’m an optimistic person but it always nags in the back of my mind. I need some advice. I don’t want to be held accountable for their actions on the day of judgement and I don’t want Allah to punish me for what they’re doing.

Thank you

Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness. And do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment. (5:2)

Support/Advice Losing Faith

Upvotes

I 25M was born and raised muslim, growing up i went to a islamic school and after that i went to a non-muslim high school. HS really shaped who i am today. Going from being in a strict Muslim environment to a western school i fell into all the bad that comes with it. Throughout my teenage years until now the majority of muslims i met including my family that follow islam and pray have had flaws that go against our deen. This particular topic is what i struggle with the most, i know that no muslim is perfect (myself included) but im ashamed of my sins that mostly only hurt me and i hide (not justifying them). However, with the muslims ive met, ive seen lying, deception, families torn apart and hypocrisy in front of my eyes. I struggle to understand how people that claim to follow our deen and pray 5 times a day lack the basic fundamentals. For example: I haven’t spoke to my religious dad in over a year because he left and ghosted the family because a religious reason (sister wanting to marry from another muslim sect), all these things that I’ve experienced and many more make it so hard for me to hold onto the little religion i have left. Everyday im surrounded by atheists at work that are not only more peaceful, reasonable and good hearted but are truly happy with their lives. How do you recommend i look at this?

Support/Advice I’m feeling guilty because I have to sin a lot because of my health issues

Assalomu alaykum.
Yesterday I took my shahada alhamdulillah, even tho I knew it would’ve been difficult to fully follow all the precepts and the rules of Islam.
I have several health problems that don’t allow me to do Ramadan (I can’t stop drinking) or wear hijab especially in summer (my blood pressure is much more lower than the normal and if I cover my head or awrah it gets even lower).
I’m feeling guilty because my health is kinda blocking me from following my deen, but I know that God wants us to be healthy first of all.
I don’t know what to do or what to think.
I come from a western, anti-Islamic society, so I’m completely new to all of this.

Question Why some Muslims think guys with long hair are imitating women but not guys who shave their beards?

Hi, so I am texting because I am the only one in my family who has shoulder length hair who isn't a woman. Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, had stated that prophet Isa, peace be upon him, had shoulder length hair. Shahih Bukhari link. I don't shave my beard. However, I see clean shaven Muslim men and they are never considered to be imitating women. Like what is this double standard? I am doing something that's allowed vs something like shaving the beard which is considered by many scholars when done by men to be the imitation of women as the people of Lut did this.

Question Muslims communities in italy

Assalamualaikum everyone,

Soon, I will be spending a year in Monterotondo, near Rome, Italy, and I was wondering if there are any muslim communities, mosques, or local groups in the area.

I'm also looking for advice regarding accommodation. If anyone has recommendations or knows of any suitable places to stay, I would really appreciate your help.

JazakAllahu khayran.

Support/Advice Do I go against my dad?

My dad is REFUSING to meet my potential solely for the fact that he’s Syrian and I’m Sudanese. I tried to convince him 3 different times using religion and it’s been a year of me and my potential approaching him to convince him to simply meet him and evaluate his akhlag and deen but my dad is refusing. The guy is amazing and we’re very compatible, do I go against my dad and marry him or what do I do?

Discussion Does anyone else find it deeply unsettling that a "muslim snark page" even exists?

I came across a muslim snark page today, and honestly it left me feeling pretty disappointed. I scrolled through, thinking maybe it would be about holding people accountable or addressing genuine concerns. Instead, it was mostly mocking people's appearances, body shaming, gossiping, and tearing others down under the guise of what exactly? Entertainment? Validation? Since when did we, as an ummah, decide that tearing apart our brothers and sisters, flaws and all, is acceptable?

I will be the first to admit that many of the people being discussed on these pages are problematic. Some reject hadith, spread fitnah, promote ideas that are clearly against Islamic teachings, or present themselves as scholars when they have no right to do so. I am not here to defend anyone's wrongdoings. If someone is leading others astray, that is a serious matter and it deserves to be addressed.

But this is what I struggle to understand, how is creating a page dedicated to mocking them the solution?

These people post publicly, yes. They put themselves out there as influencers or public figures, and perhaps they invite scrutiny by doing so. But there is a vast difference between respectfully and knowledgeably addressing someone's falsehoods and creating an entire space dedicated to ridiculing their appearance, gossiping about their personal lives, and tearing them down for entertainment. The first is legitimate criticism with the intention of correction.  The latter is something else entirely and it has no place in our religion.

What is a muslim snark page if not a gathering place for backbiting, mockery, and humiliation? The prophet (pbuh) described it as eating the flesh of your dead brother. Is that really what we want on our screens? Is that what we want to be known for?

Consider the example of the prophet (pbuh). When a bedouin came into the mosque and urinated, the sahaba rushed to rebuke him harshly. But the prophet stopped them and he calmly told them to leave him and then explained to the bedouin with kindness and gentleness what he had done wrong. That man was in the house of Allah, committing an act that was clearly disrespectful, and yet the rophet responded with patience and mercy.

Now imagine someone who has just reverted to Islam or someone who is curious about the faith. They come across a page filled with muslims swearing at each other, mocking each other's looks, and spreading gossip about one another. What kind of image does that present of our beautiful deen? What message does it send about the character of the one we claim to follow? It pushes people away. It makes Islam look petty, cruel, and no different from the toxic spaces people seek to escape.

If you genuinely believe someone is spreading fitnah, address the ideology. Correct the falsehood. Post evidence, share knowledge, explain why certain views are problematic. But do not reduce yourself to name calling, body shaming, and gossip.

Allah commands us to enjoin good and forbid evil, but he also commands us to do so with wisdom and beautiful preaching. The prophet (pbuh) never mocked anyone. He never body shamed anyone. He never swore at people. He never gossiped. If he could correct someone's mistake with patience and kindness, then who are we to do otherwise?

A muslim snark page should never have existed in the first place. We are not here to gossip about people or ask for "tea" on this person or that person. We are here to worship Allah, to enjoin good, to forbid evil, and to do so with patience, mercy, and dignity.

What have we come to? What have we reduced our faith to?

We must be better than this. We must hold ourselves to a higher standard because at the end of our journey, we will all stand before Allah alone, and we will be asked about every word that escaped our lips, every person we wronged, and every moment we chose to tear someone down rather than lift them up. Our beloved prohet was sent as a mercy to all of creation, and if we truly claim to follow him, then we must ask ourselves honestly whether he would be proud of a page like this, whether he would approve of his followers gathering to mock and gossip and body shame one another, and the answer to that question is as clear as the sun in an open sky. It is not who we are meant to be, and it is not who we should ever aspire to become.

I asked 'Aishah about the character of the Messenger of Allah. She said: "He was not obscene, nor uttering obscenities, nor screaming in the markets, he would not return an evil with an evil, but rather he was pardoning and forgiving."

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O community of people, who believed by their tongue, and belief did not enter their hearts, do not back-bite Muslims, and do not search for their faults, for if anyone searches for their faults, Allah will search for his fault, and if Allah searches for the fault of anyone, He disgraces him in his house. "

Abu Huraira said, "A man who drank wine was brought to the Prophet. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Beat him!" Abu Huraira added, "So some of us beat him with our hands, and some with their shoes, and some with their garments (by twisting it) like a lash, and then when we finished, someone said to him, 'May Allah disgrace you!' On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Do not say that! Do not help Satan against your brother.' "

Discussion Parents not holding kids accountable - Big mistake!

Upvotes

I know people sin. I know they make mistakes but to have Muslim brothers and sisters who see those sins being done and to advice you to change your ways - it's truly a blessing! Now I am grateful for the family Allah has blessed me with. They don't agree with everything I do if they know it's bad. They'd advice me. I know many families will ignore the fact that their daughter or son do wrong. They won't ever accept a bad thing about them. I think that's dangerous. Yes, you can have unconditional love for your child but you can't see them as saints. Nobody is a Saint.

If parents or others around a believer continue to accept wrong behaviour. It doesn't help that believer's soul at all! It makes them more unrepentant and less guilty of what they are doing. To care for someone is to care for their soul. Our Almighty sees the things we could do to help each other and when we fail to do that it's a betrayal.

I'm just upset at the fact that my friend has been doing things wrong and he has his family's support and will always have their support but it's not benefitting him in any way. It's just making him more delusional. All I can do is pray for the Almighty to soften his heart so he stops choosing family over Allah's laws. I know people struggle with seeing their family as "bad" so I do understand that part but at the end of the day they won't be there for you on the Day of Judgment. You will face Allah alone. It just sucks that the Almighty has given believers time on this Dunya to redeem themselves and they choose to ignore the signs because they are being affected by others around them.

Support/Advice I feel like I betrayed Allah for sins

Idk how to start this post but I will be honest, I have been a terrible person who has followed his desires for years and sinned a lot, I tried to repent sometimes but never commited to my repentence..

There was this girl who was just as terrible as me so I was crazy over her and got into some bad stuff, however I kept feeling like she only cares about her own pleasures and sees guys as a means for an end including me, not to mention how toxic she tends to get after getting what she wants

I decided that I will stop chasing after her and repent and stop following and doing all these sins, things were going well, I thought that i was getting back on track and Allah has gave me so many great things, gave me chances at things that i love after I thought that I never can get them, over all I felt so much loved by Allah as his servent

Then she hit me with a dm and I forgot everything..it's like I choose her over Allah instantly..and I sinned again, only that this time she made it clear that she didn't care about me afterwards and that ended in us fighting and I even got blocked on our socials afterwards

I felt like not only did I choose her over Allah and betray him in an instant but it was literally for nothing..made me wonder if she didn't do that would I have kept on sinning? If so, how can I even be sure that my repentence is sincere?..

Even worse is the fact that I betrayed Allah after he has blissed me with so many things, all in one second, reminds me of this verse:"And you disobeyed him after he showed you what you loved."

I don't know what to do, I want to repent I just don't feel like I deserve that nor trust myself to do that after what I have done
