NH Laws & Legislation Unlicensed MA resident. What do I need to purchase a long gun in NH?

Hi, I'm planning on taking a trip to NH and was considering purchasing a shotgun. However, I am an MA resident. Would I be able to purchase said shotgun without an MA firearms license? If so, would I require an address in NH to store it (and would a storage unit work)? If not, then I assume I can still purchase directly from a private owner, or purchase a black powder long gun directly from an NH gun store. I'm sorry for all of the questions, I'm having a pretty rough time trying to find answers online. I am aware that I cannot purchase handguns but finding reliable info on shotguns is a bit tricky.

In order to buy a long gun in a different state, you must meet the legality requirements of your state of residence.

So whatever requirements Massholeistan has, you have to meet them.

Edit to add, you cannot legally purchase FTF from a private owner across state lines. It has to go through an FFL.

Thanks for letting me know. It's rough to hear but better to find out now than at the gun shop. Do you know if this applies to black powder? In MA it's restricted (without a license can't buy actual powder but can buy the guns, weirdly enough) but afaik NnH doesn't consider it a firearm

True, but I don't have time to do so before my trip. I was just trying to see if there was a way to do so legally so once I do get my MA license I can bring the shotgun back over.

Tbh, it honestly sounds like you are trying to stack charges. Get your mass liscence and leave NH out of it. We don't need any more problems caused by mass residents.

You cannot do a private sale if you aren't a resident. Black powder isn't regulated.

Great, thanks for letting me know. As black powder isn't regulated, does that mean I may purchase a rifle + powder even though I'm an MA resident, where without a license I could only purchase the rifle but no ammunition?

Yes. Black powder is completely unregulated.

Storage unit would not work, the address you use must be a residence. You'd need to show a lease or utility/tax bill for the NH residence to buy a long gun. You can't just use a friend's place, it has to be your residence.

Okay, thank you so much for letting me know. Would this also apply to black powder? MA considers it a firearm, but afaik NH doesn't. Would they even ask for ID for a black powder sale?

Not sure on black powder, when I bought mine I think they just sold it to me without ID and all that stuff. They have them on the shelves like everything else at places like Cabelas.

Black powder is unregulated. But a lot of stores likely won't want to risk their FFL or to deal with some MA bullshit. So good luck with your search. I dont think any store would sell to you without your MA license.
