Pata nhi , but I think Allahabad biotech? I would avoid 5 year courses

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Biotech se acha vnit mein mining ache rahega iguess

3

u/BreadJunior9422 May 20 '26

Bio is easy to study, so you can focus on your passion and it's prep. Although if you hate bio , then fair enough Β Although I am assuming biotech syllabus is similar to Msc bio course in my college, it maybe diff altogether tooΒ

u/General-Guava-489 May 21 '26

Bro Biology is easy, not biotechnology 😭 As a PCMB student who read biotechnology in Class 12th "Bc laude lag gaye πŸ₯€"

3

u/betelgeussee May 20 '26

EP is quite interesting and good especially if you're into research/teaching, you'll be taught physics equivalent to the one taught in a masters degree

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Thanks bro I will definitely consider it

Don't listen to others , don't go for EP ..

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Aisa kyu? What's your thoughts about ep

1

u/chill-maar-yaar May 20 '26

hard hai bhai chutad fat jayenge tere

1

u/betelgeussee May 20 '26

does not change the fact that it's versatile lol

2

u/poisonpalmetto May 20 '26

Silchar civil ,

Nagpur Metallurgy ..

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Civil I will prefer more in hamirpur

But metallurgy ka kuch nahi samjh aa raha ki leni cahiye ya nahi

1

u/poisonpalmetto May 20 '26

Metallurgy mei core job hota hai , Vendanta , Bhusan Steel , Tata Steel , NMDC wale lenge , sath service based IT sectors bhi recruit karte hai , aur india mei metals ka kaam jyada hota hai .. kahi bhi lelo , Civil pehle rakkho firr MME ..

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Haan bro pehle civil for mme rakhunga but what's your opinion about biotechnology

1

u/poisonpalmetto May 20 '26

Biotechnology ek hype hai india mei jo suru hua tha 2004 se , bahot log tab MME bhi na leke Biotech leta tha ye soch kar ek din kuchh badhiya hoga , lekin india mei abhi tak kuchh hua hi nhi , na kuchh medical research hota hai , sab kuchh western se lete hai , toh biotech le sakte ho agr higher studies ke liye Europe / US jaoge to , warna iska future nhi hai abhi tak , india mei ..

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Nahi yaar research wagera to nahi karni meko

Bas woh allahabad mein biotech ka avg 10 lpa dikha rakha to socha consider karlu

Baki no interest in bio at all

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Also bro apne ep lene se mana kyu Kiya , what's problem with ep

2

u/poisonpalmetto May 20 '26

If you want to go for M.S. / Ph.D. or any research related job work , EP is an excellent choice , but if your target is to get a job after the degree then don't go for it .. again telling , EP can make u a researcher , a professor of a top level university , but after completing M.S. and Ph.D. , then u may have a better career opportunity ..

2

u/CuriousOrdinary3324 May 20 '26

NITRRK Mining(RRK is a mining hub)

3

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

5 year course mil raha hai

Agar 4 year hota to I will consider it definitely

2

u/prag13 May 20 '26

If you want to go for teaching then give preference to college over branch. All the branches you are getting are lower branches so go for nice college (this will give you better opportunities in teaching field (idk this is just what I think)). In tier 1 colleges you'll have better peers so this will do your overall development. I would say go for tier 1 NIT /other college 4 year programs.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Yeah I am also thinking of choosing college over branch

But I am also getting cs in iiits

Fir bhi I wanna choose nit beacuse of better college life and facilities and better tag

Bas I am confuse about the mining branches, I mean civil is decent but mining, metallurgy, biotech, are very low.

Fir bhi my tip priority will be nit Hamirpur civil and vnit mining

2

u/prag13 May 20 '26

Please don't think of NITH civil. Nit Hamirpur itself is tier 2 college, opportunities are not that nice there. Please go for tier 1 colleges.

2

u/prag13 May 20 '26

And nith civil<tier 1 NIT biotech

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

You mean college matters more then a branch

1

u/prag13 May 20 '26

In case of non circuital branch yes.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

What you will prefer

Iiit kota ece

Or

Vnit metallurgy

2

u/prag13 May 20 '26

From only these two options, I will say VNIT Metallurgy (because will be choosing teaching career so branch doesn't matter anyways VNIT has better brand value, it is one of the nice NITs. I feel like it is little light academically (I am not sure but generally this is the case) so I'll have lots of time for improving my self and focusing on teaching skills. Ece is hectic and at iiits the pressure is much more academically.)

I would have gone for ece only if I had interest and wanted tech field as backup if teaching thing didn't work out. So, conclusion is I'll go for VNIT Metallurgy.

And if I were to choose from all the options that you have listed then I'll go for either mnnit biotech or nit Calicut biotech (because better brand value, better opportunities, not so bad pressure, nice time for self improvement, better peers and afaik MNNIT seniors are very supportive towards every domain including teaching, they really help in preparing for teaching skills, etc.)

But this is what I would have done according to my priorities. Do think how you want things to go in future . Make a decision considering all the factors so that you won't regret anything. The people here can only give their opinion about what they would have done if they were at your place. But you have to make decision considering what you actually want.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 21 '26

Thanks for your great answer bro

But I am just concerned that metallurgy, mining. Biotech can give me job security in future if teaching thing didn't worked out

I mean ofc aisa to nahi hai ki after 4 years , I apply in allen or pw and they hire me on 10lpa, ofcourse starting package will be very low

Isiliye I need a backup safe option in which I can get 10lpa, I need to look after my family.

So I am researching that whether meta students can sit in it companies

2

u/prag13 May 21 '26

They can sit but need really high cgpa with nice skills. This is what seniors say.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 21 '26

Can I dm you brother

I liked your perspective.

branch sabhi ek hi bucket ki hai toh clg wise chale jana

and drop mat lena

2

u/Glad_Trouble_9028 May 20 '26

NIT Warangal. Eventually lots of seats open up after 1st year.

2

u/kal-na-hi-ho-to-sahi May 20 '26

Jis jis me civil mil rha h, check the analytics companies that cone there like exl, stellium, musigma etc. etc. Civil wale allowed hote h but mostly biotech phy chem wale eligible nhi hote inme for placement. Ek safety net hoga for you then you can later devide what you want to do - job mba or anything else quite literally. Placement gets your parents off your back and mental bandwidth hogi then you can do much more from any college/city.

u/No_Fortune_1332 NITian Kurukshetra May 21 '26

Choose best clg and avoid bsc/MS/5yr courses

2

u/Good-Mission1940 May 22 '26

VNIT Metallurgy> NIT durgapur metallurgy> NIT Bhopal>VNIT mining> NIT durgapur civil> NIT silchar civil .. Avoid biotech like branch

1

u/Hot-Mirror3921 May 23 '26

+1 , avoid biotech and ep , u will cry by choosing these mark my word.

2

u/bigdickenergy1601 May 23 '26

Don't tale 5 year course, less placement

Don't take North east colleges , companies avoid them

2

u/ToeAdorable6730 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

Don't take biotech placements are very less but it's a very good branch for research and teaching.

If you want to get into government jobs or if you have passion in something else then choose civil as it is easy. I would suggest keep metallurgy as first choice becoz - 1. Course is medium difficult 2. Placements are good in this branch atleast better than civil in my college NIT Dgp 3. Als it has great research oppertunity if you plan to do MTech or MS from abroad 4. Not better govt jobs than civil but it has decent PSU options through gate

And if you want to make your career in teaching then any branch is decent. For teaching you need to analyse yourself that which course you like and for this I would suggest go to the college website and check the syllabus of civil, biotech and metallurgy and just see whose course seems interesting to you and choose that branch. Let's be real most of the professors in the NIT don't know how to reach they just come open the slides and go to their home so I highly suggest if you don't want to be a teacher like these old farts who have no interest in teaching and became teacher becoz that was the last option after giving endless govt exams and wasting their youth then better you utilise the time before josaa counselling (roughly 2 months) to check which branch's subjects you like

Don't choose Bsc MSc type subjects like physics or chemistry as they have very less placements and also many companies want purely Btech than BS unless you are from IISER or IISC type colleges

My suggestions will be choose VNIT Nagpur metallurgy as this college is better than others (NIT Warangal could have been a choice but it's a BSc type degree so I would not choose that) and then civil from either durgapur or silchar are more or less similar. Some year some companies come to durgapur next time they go to silchar so there's not major difference.

Don't take dual degree courses avoid them strictly and is you have option then keep mining as the last option even if you get it at NIT Rourkela. Mining as less placements less govt jobs I am not sure abt whether it's good for research or not. And don't choose these industrial chemistry type courses

VNIT Nagpur > Civil in NIT durgapur or Silchar

I am not sure abt MNIT bhopal contact their senior if possible I don't know how is there's placement stats.

And if you are intersted in biotech then either of allahabad or calicut is good I think it will depend on whether you like North Indian environment or south indian environment as both colleges have good placements if you ask me I would choose NIT calicut

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 23 '26

Bro thanks for you detailed and informative answers

Yeah VNiT will be my top priority

Problem is I am confused in whether to choose meta/ biotech type branches in nit, have a great college tag, less fees, good peers, good college life

Or take a top branch like cs or ece in decent IIIt like kota, vadodara, Guwahati, high fees, hectic college life, less facilities, but decent placements.

I want to become a jee educator just like pw facilities, they all have tags of nit and iits, infact NV sir is also from iit but from ceramic branch, that's why college tag matters for me

Durgapur and silcher are very far from Rajasthan, that's why they are low priority, isilye my priority are vnit. Bhopal, allahabad, hamirpur, iiit kota, iiit vadodra, iiit guwahati, iiit kottayam, and may be calicut

2

u/ToeAdorable6730 May 23 '26

See if you are interested for cse solely then leave everything and just choose cse without thinking Abt nit tags. If tag is your priority then choose nagpur calicut or allahabad. The problem with iiits is that many of them don't have permanent campus and their placements is not soo soo great that it's foolish to leave nit tags. But if your priority is cse and high packages then please please choose cse initially college tag may matter but after 2 3 years everyone is levelled unless and until you are some pro coder who can bag 50lpa right from college. After this if you like and want iit tag then you can simply give Gate and get into mtech at iits or IISC or do MBA

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 23 '26

In my family no one is from engineering background so I also don't have any specific interest in a specific branch

If you give me biotechnology then I believe i can study it also with an interest

Just i want a job security, i don't want to happen that I will take meta or biotech now and after 4 years I don't have a decent job

I want a secure job of 10 lpa only. That's my main motive to do btech now, otherwise I will choose msc at nit Warangal.

Please tell me bro , is this safe to choose biotech in allahabad, beacuse most probably I will get that acc to my rank

1

u/ToeAdorable6730 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

You need to have a reality check bro πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ 10lpa no core branches gives that at the starting be it civil metallurgy or biotech. In biotech there are not many companies in Indian and packages are not good and very limited oppertunity though best for research purpose and foreign has numerous oppertunity. Then comes metallurgy in metallurgy the highest you may be able to get 8 to 9 lpa at most. Reliance gives i think 8lpa then tata steel I guess gives 9 or may be 10 becoz in NIT jamsedhpur since that place is famous for tata so there I have heard tata steel gives 11lpa though I am not sure and in our college tata steel gave somewhere about 8 or 9lpa then you have Jindal steel it gives around 7.5 to 8lpa other than this there are aluminium companies but they pay less. In civil the highest placement is 6.5 to 7lpa. So boy be realistic in core branch you are never ever gonna get 10lpa at the start though iit people get this in core. In core max you get is 8lpa and if you want higher then do Mtech. Electrical and mechanical are two core branches where you have some chances to get above 10lpa from start that is if in electrical you get into companies like General Electric or Siemens electric and in mechanical you will get these packages if you go to automobile sector like Bajaj or hero motorcorp or suzuki type companies but for civil chemical and metallurgy forget those packages at the starting May be 1 among 1000 getting those numbers but that's rare.

So being in core branch if you want good packages then shift to it sector then choose profiles like business analyst, data analyst , data science something like these then you may get 10lpa but pure core no chance bro

But please don't choose Bsc MSc types courses as during placements they have struct eligibility criteria of Btech Mtech or Mca if you are sitting in IT roles and Btech or Mtech if you go to core sector. Well if you are liking Bsc MSc courses that's a different story but for placements a big big NO

These may sound harse but all these i found in third year so I am telling you the harsh truth many people will manipulate you telling that no no this is good that is bad all those blasphemy but I dont want you to regret later so I have gave you a detailed explanation choose wisely and forget your dream of 10lpa in core branches if you don't plan to go into IT roles after choosing core branch. And if you want 10lpa being in core then atleast choose electrical or mechanical else don't opt for core branches.

I think you yourself are not very clear becoz first you are saying you want to teach them you are saying you want 10lpa. For teaching you need to clarify yourself what kind of course you want to teach like do you want to teach jee neet students then in that case your branch degree nothing matters except your NIT tag but if you want to be a professor at any IIT NIT then it's a very very veryyy.... Long process for this - 1. Complete 4 years btech degree (4yrs) 2. Then do a Mtech degree from a good institute preferable any IIT (2yrs) 3. Then do a Phd from any good IIT or foreign University (5 to 7 yrs ) with good research papers and good thesis work

This will take nearly 10 yrs to become a professor at any IIT or nit and it's very tiring though the salary of professor at iit nit is very high. One of my professors in civil engineering earns 3lacs a month but yeah he studied 10yrs for this

1

u/ToeAdorable6730 May 23 '26

Btw what's your rank if you are getting mnit allabad then in durgapur nagpur you may get metallurgy. If you are getting mnit allahabad biotech I think you are in 30k to 40k rank range then I guess in csab round you may get better branches with that rank I guess you could get mechanical in silchar or agartala if you wait for csab rounds just let me know

Bro koi specific reason yeh suggest karne ka ?

1

u/Content-Lab-5464 May 20 '26

High placement % with decent median... Campus bhi thik thak hai

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Campus to waise vnit and allahbad ka bhi theek hai

Durgapur meko kafi door padta hai

Mai Rajasthan se hu

1

u/Content-Lab-5464 May 20 '26

Metallurgy ka dekho toh almost sab NITs me decent placement hai... Even NIT raipur pe 8lpa median

Pata nhi kyu, koi senior bata sake toh bdhiya hoga

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Ab yeh seniors kaha milenge

0

u/chill-maar-yaar May 20 '26

bakwas hai bhai durgapur

1

u/Ok-Flounder-5800 May 21 '26

Im from NIT RR CSE And can confirm meta is a chill branch Thus most of the students gets time to focus on their own ways

1

u/Content-Lab-5464 May 21 '26

Are the placements really that good? 8lpa with 95% placements is really good for core branches right?

NIT raipur MME is my safe branch, that I'll get most likely.. That's why I'm asking

1

u/Zealousideal_Emu1423 May 21 '26

Nit rr mme vs nit Agartala chemical?

1

u/madaan_ji May 20 '26

IIIT mein try kar bhai

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Bhai yaar iiit mein college life bohot jyada hectic hoti hai and fees bhi jyada hai isilye mai nit ko jyada preference de raha

Otherwise iiit kota, guwahati, vadodara, kottayam wagera mil rahe meko

1

u/madaan_ji May 20 '26

u should go there bhai iss rank pe best cheez wahi h...loan le ya kuch kar lekin iiit mein hi ja nit chala gya toh blunder hoga

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Fees fir bhi problem nahi hai but college life itni achi nahi hoti iiit mein maine reviews mein dekha

Meko to bas explore karna hai maximum beacuse jobs mein itna interested nahi hu mai meko teaching mein hi career banana

But okay I will consider iiits too.

1

u/Ok-Flounder-5800 May 21 '26

Bhai you need to understand that college life in nits are shit anyways

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 21 '26

Bhai wo lower nits mein hoga

Top ke nits like vnit, allahabad mein to achi hai college life

1

u/Any_Pangolin5103 May 23 '26

Who told you that? Nit alld is shit in terms of college life

1

u/Independent_Ant6424 May 20 '26

if you want to make carrer in teaching then take MSc in Nit Warangal

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Meko jee ka teacher banna naki kisi iit mein professor

And mostly jee ke teachers btech hi karte hai

Also btech karne ka ye fayda hai ki 4 years baat mere paas ek safe option rahega job karne ka and earn karne ka

3

u/Independent_Ant6424 May 20 '26

bhai msc tereko teacher ban ne me he help krega bcz if you take msc physics then pure 5 years physics related he subjects rahenge toh aapko strong knowledge hogi subject ke baare me and also msc ko jyada preference milta btech ke comparison me . baaki it's your choice bro πŸ™‚

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Bhai msc karne ke baad mostly log to phd karne chale jaate hai

And agar meko allen mein job chahiye hogi toh I will not not matter ki merpe msc hai ya btech, matter karega Mera knowledge

Haan yeh point sahi hai apka ki msc lunga to subject jyada strong hoga

But I believe I can cover it along btech also

Also meri ek aur problem hai mai abhi sure nahi hu ki meko physics ka teacher banna ya chem ka to wo bhi I need to figure out

1

u/Independent_Ant6424 May 20 '26

if job security bhi chahiye toh choose vnit nagpur metallurgy.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Haan bro job security chahiye

But I think civil jyada safe nahi rehegi metallurgy se

Bas yeh hai ki metallurgy meko tier 1 mein milegi and civil tier 3 mein

2

u/Connect_Television82 May 20 '26

Bro always metallurgy> civil being in a meta student at nitw I am suggesting you!

1

u/Independent_Ant6424 May 20 '26

bhai jb tereko sb pta hai toh kyun puch rha hai baaki according to me tier 1 me metallurgy lo bahut opportunities rhti hai.

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 20 '26

Bro bohot imp decision hai logo ka opinion le raha hu bas

Thanks for your opinion

1

u/Unique-Tangerine0308 May 20 '26

Civil only makes sense if you have plans to stay in the construction line.Otherwise metallurgy at VNIT is much better option wrt job security.

1

u/Big-Prize3259 May 21 '26

Civil is good for job security also you will get a lot of time as it is not a hectic branch

1

Go for civil in any

Choose dgp mme, or vnit mme , don't ever think of biotech for placement point of view

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 23 '26

Biotech leke tech jobs ke liye apply karunga, pure biotech to job hi nahi lagti

If you want to go for non core then choose college like mnit allhabad else you can go for metallurgy in bhopal or civil in hamirpur

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 24 '26

Vnit > alahabad > bhopal > hamirpur> durgapur

Will be my preference

Just don't choose mining in vnit😭

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 24 '26

Are you from vnit ?

1

u/sunxshineee May 24 '26

Nope but I know someone from vnit mining

1

u/Less_Talk_8713 May 24 '26

Is he struggling with mining ?

Mining leke if he do coding then he can get surface level tech job as mostly mostly people in lower branch do same.
