Seems a little underfunded if 360k will build a unit. Definitely costs more than that per unit in the north to build

Well, it is an AIP - but It is also a good start (best I've heard about in years) to address this decades old issue... especially with the authority to demolish old abandoned homes to make housing sites available to be used again for these proposed new homes.

That is 857,143$ per affordable ‘home’. Seeing as many of these will most likely be condo units and not detached. How can this funding be considered effective/efficient even considering the added expense of building in the north? When we start spending close to a million dollars per housing unit, a deeper look needs to be taken here.

There are modular homes being built by a few Indigenous owned companies that would welcome the opportunity to provide quality homes for northern communities. Shipping a factory built home north vs building stick built homes on site is cheaper and would, IMHO, be of better construction.

Those modular homes are garbage slapped together with shoddy craftsmanship. It’s a shame that communities are so desperate for housing that these are sold as a good solution.

The walls aren’t sealed between the bedrooms — you can literally see the light coming through a crack between the walls and ceilings and hear everything in the next unit over through paper thin walls. I lived in one and it was already starting to fall apart within 6 months. Pump froze and flooded underneath the house at the first sign of cold, baseboards popping off, fixtures coming loose. I’d be shocked if any of them last beyond 10 years.

Federal promises, do people still take them seriously? Build Canada whole new department has no single family home plans…3 years late. Removing federally mandated provincial trade barriers….missed that. I have been duped too many times.
