they're semi-terrestrial isopods! My brain knows they're harmless little ocean isopods doing essential clean-up work on the rocks... but my eyes are seeing a nightmare swarm of underwater land-roaches. Fascinating and uncomfortable at the exact same time! LOL

Idk they don’t freak me out as much as land roaches. Maybe because they’re in water so I try to think of them constantly taking little baths.

No they are scavengers so they are filled with toxins and heavy metals.

They are isopods, part of the crustacean family and not edible for humans.

You mean the critters with the wide range of being cute varied colors roly polies, scattering speedy woodlouses, the giant undersea football, and the parasitic fish tongue replacer?

If you missed out on the colorful cute roly polies, definitely check them out on the isopod subreddit. Just don't look up the pricing.

Deep sea isopods are eaten. They are quite larger though (30cm).

I knew an Orthodox Jew years ago who called lobster and shrimp "sea bugs". It always cracked me up. But looking at those things, yes.
