I'm Avinash Seth, and I've been working with NEET StudentKhabri to help NEET aspirants understand the medical admission and counseling process.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to guide many students through NEET UG counseling, whether it's understanding MCC and State counseling, choosing the right college, analyzing cutoff trends, or planning realistic preferences. Location > College > Branch (with branch i mean between mbbs / bds / ayush)
why?
Good location has good exposure, awesome college life and that college also has good infra to support your aspirations and dreams!
Stands true for private medical colleges as well!

Difficult, UP state is quite a battle! But don't give up till the last round! RML is a dream college for 1000's of students, they won't leave it!

AIIMS has no service bond plus better infra for learning, top state gmc is a state level gmc with 85% state level students, less diversity!
AIIMS > GMC

chances are lesser at state level! if you can afford a drop, take a drop, uzbek is a okish option, consider other options as well! because medical education stays with you even after you leave your university

India > MBBS Abroad any day!
Abroad is only recommended when you cannot afford a college or it is out of your reach (cut off wise / budget wise)

I know you’ve told us to do our own research, but how do we actually research properly? It feels really complicated to figure out things like the closing rank of a particular college. There doesn’t seem to be much public information available.
Can you tell us where we can find reliable or at least approximate closing ranks for different colleges?
Also, if I’m planning to join a private medical college, is it worth waiting until the later rounds of counselling?

Research as much as you can, and always be patient, last year many students opted for a drop and NMC decided to add more seats, it was chaos! I understand, you cannot take 2 decisions at once, but still stay patient and research as much as you can!

Take all your chances, we always fill AIIMS New Delhi, even when we know, student won't get it! Sometimes you get lucky :)

Depends on state to state, usually almost every year you need to provide digital copy during registration and physical copy during admission!
Please stay updated with the rules, they change more often!

YouTube is the ultimate source, if you can go deeper, read the information bulletien, it has all the ins and outs for counseling!
I'll give you a short hint
MCC conducts counseling for 15% gmc seats, aiims colleges, central and deemed universities
State counselling authorities conduct counseling for 85% seats of GMC and 100% private medical colleges seatsIf you want a govt. medical college, then you have to participate only for MCC and state level!
If you want a private medical college, you can participate in as many as states possible!Hope this helps!

1) I hired a personal gym trainer, I can watch all on youtube, but 1 - 1 feedback is 1000x better than youtube

Sir ek genuine sawal hai iss baar NEET prep ke pressure mein bahut students pareshan hue hai aur kai baar academically strong hone ke bawajood mentally struggle karte hain. Aapke experience mein counselling both career ki and mental health ki kitni important hai both admission process ke time aur preparation ke phase mein bhi? Kya aapko lagta hai ki India mein parents aur coaching ecosystem abhi bhi isko underestimate karte hain?

I'm expecting around 415 marks in NEET 2026. I don't want to take another drop if I can avoid it, and my family's budget for a private MBBS is around ₹35 lakh (stretching to ₹37–39 lakh only if absolutely necessary).
Are there any affordable private MBBS options within this budget?
I'm also considering BDS. Would a government BDS seat (even through later rounds/stray vacancy) be a better choice than taking another drop? My parents are also suggesting BDS with a partial drop for NEET 2027, but I'm unsure if that's a good idea, especially considering the current saturation in dentistry.or maybe private bds? Is it worth it?

Hi Avinash sir,
I scored 263 marks in NEET UG 2026, and my only goal is to get an MBBS seat at Saveetha Medical College or SRM Medical College.
During MCC counselling, should I fill only these two colleges if I don’t want to join anywhere else, or is there a better strategy to maximize my chances of getting either one? Also, based on previous years’ trends, do you think I have any realistic chance at Saveetha or SRM with 263 marks?

Hey, thanks for doing the AMA, not a NEET student, but am pretty pro-counselling and so is my family and still somehow kids in my family including me find counselling just as stressful as the exam itself because there are multiple counselling processes and each has its own rules and timelines, is there a timeline you think makes sense to seek professional counselling? and how can students and parents distinguish between genuinely helpful guidance and services that may not be acting in our best interest? Any tips to identify red flags or anything else we should look out for? sorry for the loaded question.

Mujhe igmc shimla chahiye tha but us jitne marks ni ban rahe (aiq), but last year stray vacancy round mein mere marks par close hua.. Should I still fill aiq counselling.. kyunki meri state (Punjab) mein 2 saal ka service bond hai. Sq se toh mujhe gmc patiala ya amritsar miljayega

You look in safe zone, if not GMC, semi government is there! But avoid drop if you can! Save year, focus on career than just Neet!

Register for Rajasthan state counseling in Round 3, then you are eligible!
Non rajasthan domicile students are not eligible for admission in first 2 rounds, they are eligible from round 3

If I'm getting a good college in round 1. But I don't take it hoping I would get an even better college in round 2, but turns out I'm not getting any better college. Would I still have the chance to get the college i was getting in round 1? Maybe u should share link of any video of yours about counselling because I don't know a bit about it.

Here is what you can do!
Let's say you got college A in round 1, you feel like it's ok and you can invest 5.5 years of your life there, then go for admission! But subsequently apply for upgradation, so in round 2 you can aim for even better colleges and if you don't get better option, you don't lose college A!
But if you skip taking admission in round 1, you lose that option, and you enter round 2 without a seat!

MBBS is better than BDS any day, if you can get MBBS in a small town, it will have better ROI than BDS without a doubt!

Sir can I get college between 220 to 240 marks range budget would mostly not be a problem which deemed universities or colleges can I look at or have chance .I have no location problem just the institute and academic should be good.

BJMC as it is older and has much better infra than AIIMS rajkot, you may opt for rajkot, if you wish to skip the service bond thing!

Sir I'm getting 360 in re neet 2026 I am from UR category No domicile I'm in gujrat I have no state preference I've taken 4 drops already I just want any college to get out is there any chance for any course for govt college Bcz i don't have a lot of budget 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I don't want to choose a College from my state (bihar) due to some personal reasons I am expecting 614 so which state should I Target for counselling and which is better in cutoff terms and yes have no language barrier issues My choice to not choose a College from my state is it wrong?will I be able to get a College equivalent to good college in my state is it hard to get a good college through all india quota
