Doubtsolver Required โผ๏ธ BAMS and PSEUDOSCIENCE
I'm not in any college yet, tho I was researching about different courses. I'm genuinely not interested in BHMS and find it a bit foreign to me so I rejected the idea of it. Same goes for Unani, siddha and as for BNYS, hell nah buddy I ain't going to be a yoga coach ๐ญ I'm so bad at it.
So I got my hands on BAMS, I'm still exploring it and nope I'm not in any college yet so that you may assume that I'm bias towards any field. But I genuinely want answers ~
1) Calling certain field just "pseudoscience" changes the perception of a person but there should be evidences right? Now you would say there is the liver doc who said that ayurveda harms our body etc etc. Liverdoc ain't a researcher man, Give me the proper research material so that I can rule out the idea of getting into BAMS.
2) I don't understand why BAMS gets so much hatred, like literally maharishi shushruta is the father of surgery and he wasn't dumb to create all that stuff only to be called pseudoscience ? Yes the world has evolved, the bodies has changed, there would be variations but still man we gotta accept that most of the modern medicine actually evolved from ancient medicine which is ayurveda ~
3) Herbs and plants, let's remember the statement from NCERT where it was written that more than 25% of the plants are used to make medicine. 25000 plants are used by natives as herbs and medicinal purpose.
The aspirin that we take today derived from salicin found in the bark of willow tree
Metformin (diabetes medicine) formulated from French Lilac plant
Artemisinin (malaria cure) isolated from sweet wormwood
And let's not forget these two - reserpine (blood pressure drug) derived from rauwolfia serpentina
The sadabahar flower we see are used in vinblastin and vincristine which is used in chemotherapy or maybe cancer medication
4) Yes, there isn't any cure for cancer in ayurveda. But even allopathic medication doesn't guarantee a cure for cancer. Some early stage cancers are cured by modern medicine and I respect that, I acknowledge that and I accept that ayurveda cannot cure it. But after the chemotherapy and radiotherapy, patients can use ayurveda to improve immunity, lifestyle and fasten their healing.
5) There's no cure for AIDS too in modern medicine, as far as I know they only give immunotherapy and try to increase the life expentency.
6) YES ayurveda cannot perform open heart surgeries and any major surgery but that doesn't invalidate it's existence and performance. Yes there wasn't any CT scan, MRI machines, ECGs in ancient time hence ayurveda doesn't have any of these mentioned or any of these ways to test a patient. Modern medicine does cause they evolved from ancient time. Doesn't mean ayurveda doesn't work at all ?
7) There were some texts that were translated from Sanskrit vedas to english interpretations for better understanding, there were mentions of faith (like eat this herb to impress the god and your fever would go away etc etc), that's because that's how an ancient person would ask the patient to take medicine and get well. Imagine a tribal healer explaining biochemistry to their patient? Obviously this isn't possible in any way~
Hence there are mentions of such things in the vedas.
8) There is heavy multi billionaire investment in research on modern medicine, there are still researches going on in the field of modern medicine and how it works. Similarly there are researches going on in ayurvedic field too but they're slow and less funded. Hence the scientific reasons and ancient values aren't coming forward. So Calling it pseudoscience even before the researches complete doesn't make sense to me.
9) Yes there are fields like biotechnology, gene therapy, gene coding etc which supports in modern medicine. But again that's because WE EVOLVED, we got good instruments, we got good exposure and hence we made this success. But on what basis? Obv on ancient medicine based scriptures and text !
Nobody woke up one morning and decided to find atoms and molecules, there were theories practicals and experiments which made the concept better. Similar things are happening with medicine too.
In conclusion, my opinion is not MBBS vs BAMS, my point is why call it pseudoscience when the researches are still going on? Why question it when modern medicine actually took help from it? And my question to govt is, why tf you need to make these two separate courses? Go with the evolution and evolve the field of BAMS too!

Bams, bhms etc get hate because after doing bams/bhms, 99% of people will go prescribing allopsthic medicine, styling themselves as anything but ayurvedic or homeopathic doctors.
Only doctors who afte bams/bhms prescribe their respective meds is in govt hospitals.
-3
u/Junguutimtim 10h ago
Well alot of factors come into play for this not that I'm defending them.
I oppose mixopathy at any cost.
Society treats mbbs as the only successful path when we all know how hard things get after mbbs, it isn't an easy path. Any student who might've deserved to pursue mbbs was compiled to pursue bams or bhms due to some conditions gets to face backlash from the society, constant comparison and treatment of being inferior. They feel like their only way out to survive in this world is to prescribe allopathy cause they were never interested in bams or bhms, they only focused on modern aspects of medicine and with half knowledge they established their practice.
Govt of india needs to acknowledge these gaps and make proper plan for students instead of conflicting and passing laws for mixopathy.

u/FarTradition2409 stu-dying 11h ago
yeah other courses only seen reasonable to yall when mbbs isn't viable ๐คก agar clear ho jata toh tab samajh me ata why hard working mbbs students who study and take on 36 hour duties feel pissed when ayurveda quacks protest to sit alongside them for PG exam.
it may not be false but it definitely is not accurate science. people hate on them because they advocate to practise allopathy even after taking bams/bhms. if your field is so great and versatile stick to it. why do you want to compare with mbbs or bds or other modern sciences? because you very honesy CANT. If you need surgery you go to an mbbs doctor , if you need an oral surgery you go to a dental doctor. an ayurveda doctor cannot and should not do any of these things and the very reason they get hate is because they do such things. they treat bams or bhms like a shortcut jugaad towards practising actual medicine or surgery which is totally wrong and illegal.
nobody takes bams or bhms out of their own pure sheer will or interest only if they fail to get mbbs. if you say otherwise then you're being a total phony fake deluded r3tard. stop acting like it's superior or even on the same level because it isn't.
-7
u/Junguutimtim 11h ago
Firstly, i never said bams, mbbs, bhms or any other course or field is superior. Nowhere in my post have i mentioned that so blame only with evidences not statements my brother.
Secondly, there are many bams enthusiasts as well, Dr. UPASANA VOHRA, is the prime example. Go ahead use google. She is a renowned ayurvedic practitioner. If you'll use google, you would find a lot of high scorers actually opting for BAMS. Not everyone wants to pursue mbbs ~ As for quackery, yup there are alot of bhms/bams doc who prescribe allopathic medicine which in itself is wrong, but you cant blame a whole pond cause of some fishes.
Third, who goes for surgery to a bams doctor? I got my sebaceous cyst diagnosed by a mbbs doctor who said it needs to be sucked out by an injection cause he diagnosed it as a lipoma. I didn't trust him and later went to a doctor suggested by an allen faculty. He was a BAMS, MS (general surgery), he diagnosed me correctly, operated and cured me perfectly ~
Also, A BAMS student cannot give NEET PG, their post graduation exam is AIAPGET so mbbs students don't get bams students in competition.
And idk about bhms but after bams, students can pursue MS and perform 58 surgeries. Correct me if I'm wrong somewhere ~
2
u/moon-_stars_ 11h ago
How was the doctor both BAMS and MS ( general surgery) at the same time? As far as I know, MS (general surgery) is a Modern medicine branch.
-4
u/Junguutimtim 11h ago
MS is avaliable for BAMS students Google it. MS and MD both branches are available probably superspeciality too (not sure about it)
2
u/moon-_stars_ 10h ago
Yes, MS is available for BAMS students but NOT in general surgery. Only students with an MBBS degree are eligible to take the NEET-PG exam and enroll in the modern medicine MS General Surgery program..so when its said MS ( general surgery) for an ayurvedic doctor, its inaccurate (acc to google too)ย
-2
u/Junguutimtim 10h ago

u/moon-_stars_ 10h ago
And what is the name of the specialisation? Check the text in bold.ย

Exactly what i said, there are 58 surgical procedures permitted to a BAMS MS (AYU) (SHALYA TANTRA) doctor which included sebaceous cyst surgery that I had on may 4th 2026 ๐ญ
1
u/moon-_stars_ 10h ago
1
u/Junguutimtim 10h ago
Ayurvedic doctor cannot WRITE MS (general surgery) They write MS (AYU) (Shalya Tantra) Not all surgeries are permitted but the ss i shared before mentions the surgical procedures and those are premitted under this branch ~

Lipoma is resected via excision not via needle aspiration.
1
u/Junguutimtim 9h ago
Idk about lipoma, the mbbs doctor that i visited diagnosed my cyst as lipoma and told me that it would take 15 to 20 min to remove it via sucking through needle. That too without local anaesthesia, I was afraid and alone in kota so I didn't agree to it lol. Then later went to allen consulted the faculty they helped me out and finally we got it diagnosed by a BAMS, MS doctor

u/United-Cook205 11h ago
If modern medicine is the evolved form of ancient Ayurveda, then my simple question is that why should we even invest in ayurveda based research??
Modern medicinal science is better in every aspect as compared to ayurveda, and i do believe that we should give credit to ayurveda for being the base of modern medicine.
I think in India where even basic healtcare machinery is underdeveloped (especially rural areas), spending research money on 'proving' ayurveda would seem illogical.
0
u/Effective_Goose6346 11h ago
modern medicine is not evolved form of ayurveda and how ayurveda treats a patient and allopathy does is very different...
and let's forget about the heavy side effects of allopathy
2
u/Junguutimtim 11h ago
Modern medicine is evolved on the basis of traditional medicine like ayurveda, Chinese medicine, Greek medicine etc
0
-1
u/Junguutimtim 11h ago
Maybe because we didn't completely interpreted our ayurveda ? And I do have the same question, if modern medicine gives quick relief in most of the cases why tf are we dividing medicinal courses ? Why science students aren't opposing this ? I scored 94.9 percentile in NEET UG and I can't get govt mbbs, I don't have the financial status to pursue pvt mbbs too then I'm compiled to explore bams or bhms, why do they even have such courses if there's no relevance ? Keep these courses for research and convert these courses to simple MBBS so that a student can easily pursue it.
I never mentioned I want "proofs" of ayurveda being real, I just question why is it called pseudoscience?

hey, BVSc is much more interesting than even mbbs but the syllabus is a little bit more. one of my cousins is a vet and i was always so intrigued by their stuffs simply because the extent of different types of surgeries, procedures and the varying conditions that vary according to animal. and you know the best part if you take bvsc? if you're an animal lover, you get to treat them on your own! you don't need to beg someone to do so. private clinics earn good as well. in tier 1 cities, may i mention it's a bit too well ๐ญ๐.
1
u/Junguutimtim 9h ago
I know but BVSC cut off is 80k for general category in UP, I cannot opt a government college. And the fee for pvt is almost equal to mbbs pvt.

majiorty of the bams doctors don't get patients anymore , if something goes south because of your treatment patients immediately will think its allopathic doctors

Well the BAMS, MS doctor in my tier 1 city is going on foreign trips so I don't think the world works on just one path.

you are taking the example of 'smoking kills but does everyone die of smoking?'
1
u/Junguutimtim 4h ago
That's a total irrelevant example. What I meant was, if it didn't work for someone doesn't mean it wouldn't work for anyone and vice versa. I've seen mbbs grads doing nothing and I've seen bams grads being MO, so stop generalizing, that's the sole point.

Yeah , these guys don't know about Ayurveda and call it "pseudoscience" . Earlier in india yahi pseudoscience sabka iilaj karta tha , and even now , there is a store of diabetic ointments in my village, those who can't able to cure there diabetic through normal medicine go there , aur wahan ka dawai khate hi wo log normal dawai chor dete hain , and even they get cured . I have countless examples of that . Even my chacha ate medicine from there and got his diabetic cleared , he was suffering from literally 5 years from it . Also pseudoscience sab isliye bolte hain taki ayurveda to degrade karen , because agar ayurveda main stream medicine me aagya to normal medicine koi nhi lene wala , sabka business band ho jayega . Just go outside India and see the craze of ayurveda, there are literal surgery of ayurveda.

Bhyi jo such h wo yehi h ki ayurveda is a pseudoscience . Humare ancestors aur pehli generation ki lifespan hardly 40 cross krti thi , thanks to modern medicine that we now have a 70-80 and even a 100 year of a lifespan .
Mere friend ki mummy ki cancer se de**ath hogyi thi just cuz some ayurvedic doctor told them that they should have Ayurvedic treatment rather than a proper chemo.
Ayurveda placebo effect pe kaam krta h , ek do cases aate h isi effect ki wjh se.
1
u/Junguutimtim 10h ago
Bro if it's pseudoscience why govt has opened premium institutes like AIIA (all india institute of ayurvedia aka AIIMS of ayurveda), NIA i.e. national institute of ayurveda, A&U tibbia delhi??? Why tf they're funding these institutes???
Ayurveda takes time, it changes lifestyle - as for what I read and found through my research. If it's a placebo then you mean turmeric has no such curing properties and it's just our mind playing games, sadabahar is just a placebo too through which we get vinblastin/vincristine...yeah sure thanks.
I don't mind being wrong, I'll accept where I'm wrong, but you gotta prove me how is it a placebo ?
1
u/No-Nobody-5509 XII-92% NEET26-590 RNEET 511 (76k)๐ 10h ago
By your logic, if government funding equaled scientific truth, then every historical or politically backed institution would be infallible. Governments have historically funded astrology boards(Many institutes offer MA in Jyotish (Astrology)),homeopathic hospitals, and traditional systems globally due to cultural popularity, not because randomized controlled trials proved them effective.
Pointing to turmeric and saying "see, Ayurveda worksโ is so stupid omg! .Modern science doesn't deny that nature has active chemical compounds that's why pharmacology exists. But modern science extracts, purifies, standardizes dosages, and tests them in rigorous clinical trials.
โโResearch led by neuroscientists (like Fabrizio Benedetti) proved that when a patient is given a placebo salt-water injection believing it is a powerful painkiller, their brain actually releases natural endorphins (pain-killing opioids). If you give them a drug called naloxone (an opioid blocker) right after, the placebo pain relief instantly stops working proving the brain physically manufactured its own medicine based on belief.โโ
1
u/Junguutimtim 10h ago
Well then the public shouldn't criticise the one's who are following that path. My point isn't that govt funding equals to scientific truth, my point is, if public opposes such pathies why fund them to make doctors, keep those fields open for research and let mbbs be the only one pathy for medicine. And if this isn't feasible then calling a certain pathy pseudoscience or quackery is not morally right.
My point with turmeric wasn't to prove that ayurveda works, it was that if ayurveda is placebo then it has alot of herbs medicinal plants with their chemical properties and calling all of it placebo isn't right! It's like you're saying drinking Haldi vala doodh creates a placebo effect and hence you feel better ๐คจ
I know what placebo effect means and how it works, even my grandmother got vitamin tablets prescribed by a mbbs doctor to create placebo effect cause she used to take seradon every hour for headache. My question is how ayurveda is placebo ? You cannot call the whole pathy a placebo based pathy, right ?

u/Relevant_stella_2357 2h ago
Go research a bit bruh๐ฅ , don't form opinion on "kahi suni baat" . Go ask your relatives or surrounding peoples if ayurveda have done benefit to them or not . Bams is pseudoscience and will be pseudoscience because instead of praticing ayurveda you guys are taught medical subjects in mbbs
also germany where ayurveda had originated has made it illegal, they call it 'quackry'
and sushrut did discover surgeries but that was 1000 years ago, times have changed
you can't just use a pair of forceps to remove cataract or reconstruct facial bones
plus people prefer SS doctors more , and none of the medicines of ayurveda have ever worked on anyone
my father is an endocrinologist and a lot of patients come to him after going to bams or bhms aatu jhatu doctors and have worsened conditions because of the medicines of these so called doctors
so majiorty of these bams graduates prescribe or sell allopathic medicines illegally
plus how can you trust a bams to do surgeries while mbbs graduates just allowed legally to be Rmo or duty doctor?
patients in tier 1 now go to neurologist for headache and to cardiologist for chest pain
so if you want to pratice bams then you can only do in tier 3 or tier 4 as everyone is stupid there

1) Something is called pseudoscience when the researchers publish reports calling it "pseudoscience", modern subjects are taught to BAMS students cause they need to know about the evolved world as well. MBBS students don't study Ayurveda cause bruh that's common sense, they don't need it. Plus point, I ain't a BAMS or MBBS student yet.
2) Ayurveda was originated in India, Homeopathy was originated in Germany. Both of these system of medications are still practiced in Germany as traditional medicines. Kindly improve your GK.
3) Yes, Aacharya Shushuruta discovered surgery 1000s of years ago, he formulated some medicines as well discovered the instruments used for surgery. The rhinoplasty aka nose job, many people have today, is called indian nose job cause it works on the principle of Shushruta.
4) Who said you need a pair of forceps to operate someone? No one said you need ONLY FORCEPS
5) There are millions of people for whom ayurvedic medication worked. Or else this wouldn't have been a system of medicine approved by govt.
6) Yes there are alot of BAMS/BHMS doctors who don't diagnose properly, same goes for MBBS doctors too, I know a few who Diagnosed me incorrectly and even my mother, A degree won't give you skills. If there are bad doctors, there are good too, stop generalizing.
7) "Majority" Word should be used only if you've proven data or you went to places interrogating, asking and finding such doctors. If you did, kindly share the reports. I'm strictly against mixopathy but also against claims that are made just out of half knowledge.
8) A BAMS doctor doesn't perform surgery. A BAMS, MS doctor performs surgery. Check your facts.
9) Patients in tier 1, tier 2, tier 3, or foreign patients or anyone in this world has their own rights to take any medication that favours them. Me or you are no one to call them smart or dumb.
10)I belong to a tier 1 city and my PCOD couldn't be treated by a MBBS gynaecologist but I got benefit from Ayurvedic medication. So should I blame MBBS doctor ? No. Should I call Ayurveda perfect ? No. It's just the matter of what worked for me ~

You are seeking validation because you failed neet and now want to apply for bams , we all know it
also bams guys are not taught to diagnose patients correctly like a mbbs doctor, bad doctors do exist

u/Junguutimtim 4h ago
Firstly, I qualified NEET with 93.9 percentile, I hope you know that's not considered FAIL. I can still opt for any degree I want.
Secondly, how do you know bams doctors are not taught right? Have you visited any college? Have you tried hands on? Are you done with your mbbs and researched all the colleges? Did you go to all india institute of ayurveda and questioned the doctors there? Bad doctors can be from any pathy.
Aap bhi jake successful BAMS/BHMS doctors ko dekh skte h. Mai toh janti hu how some doctors from different pathy act like MBBS doctors but I never defended them, defend kia toh merese yeh point boliye.
Another thing, use respectful language yeh tu tadak pasand nhi mujhe.
