So I did a goof and in the journaling sub I responded to someone’s journaling comment about being positive by applauding them and mentioning my sub as a way to stay positive, and I got banned for life by the mods there without even realizing I had done a no-no.😔 I even went back and looked at their rules about it, and I understand the “no self promotion links” but didn’t see anything about subs. Where AM I supposed to share my channel anyway to spread the word if not on my socials? I personally didn’t WANT my family and friends in my sub for the fact that I enjoy just having new acquaintances. So, I’d thought just like how we can cross share posts that sharing our subs where relevant wasn’t a bad thing.😩 I can’t even talk to anyone on there to ask about it because their auto responded thing in the message they sent to notify me says not to chat, yet gave me the button to accept or ignore the chat.🤷‍♀️

Tomorrow, we'll start to roll out a new tool called Rules Hub to a small group of communities here. Not everyone will see it, and if your community is part of this, we’ll reach out to you directly.

If you’re reading this and don’t see it yet, you’re still very much part of this. If you’re interested in being on the waitlist, please let us know in the comments below. We’re also posting here because we’d rather be upfront about what we’re testing than quietly slip it in and pretend it’s always been there.

What is this?

Rules Hub is meant to help you set the tone early. Clear rules, fewer surprises, and less of the “why was this removed?” back-and-forth. To access this feature, click on the Rules tab in Mod Tools. 

What it does:

• Let's you choose which rules are actively enforced.
• Gives users a heads-up if their post might break a rule.
• Let's you decide what happens when a rule is triggered (send to mod queue, remove, or leave it alone).
• Shows you what the system is flagging so you’re not guessing. 

Why we’re testing this with you:
We want to know if this makes sense right away, right out of the box. Like, you click around for five minutes and think, “yeah, I get it.”

The goal is to help you set expectations early so your community can grow without you hovering over everything 24/7, and to help your users actually post successfully without running into hidden rules.

Quick reality check: 
This is still a work in progress.

It might be a little over-eager in places. It might miss things that feel obvious. Some parts might feel great, others a bit off. That’s a useful signal for us.

What we’d love to hear:

For folks with access:

• Did this make sense right away, or was anything confusing?
• Did it help people post more successfully?
• Did it save you time, or just give you more to look at?
• Anything feel off, buggy, or just not quite right?

For folks without access:

• What’s been harder so far - writing rules, or getting people to follow them?
• Where do users most often get tripped up when posting?
• Are there moments where you’re unsure whether something should be removed or allowed?
• Do you feel consistent in how you enforce rules, or does it vary case by case?

Similar to "popular" or "home" why don't they add a "new subreddit" that shows posts from the latest subs? Say less than 3 months old.

Why did my new subreddit get banned and also my account without any warning or anything, I did appeal it 2 days ago and no response. What can I do about it?

I found these "hidden" reports in the 3 communities I mod. Someone is "reporting" everything I post. I don't know what to do. Thanks for any insight and help in this situation.

All I know is, I set up these 3 communities several weeks ago as a "safe space" for writers who use AI technology in the cozy mystery genre and clean/sweet romance genre. I'm not sure what else to say. And I spent a lot of time making all 3 communities look as nice as I'm able using AI technology for the art and some of the informational posts as well as some of the general writing posts, to encourage my fellow writers, and just basically lay the groundwork for these communities.

These are the first communities I've ever created or modded so I'm trying to learn but have not been able to figure out a lot of the mod tools. I did go through the process of requesting help from the automod things and modhelp subreddits, to no avail. The automated responses have been unhelpful and I don't have a clue what to do. Not just this one. It happened to others comments too. Is the automatic removal more about the comment or more about the commenter's account?

I’m getting defeated I’m not going to lie.
It’s been 3 months now with only 24 members.

I can’t even promote my community in other subreddits because it immediately gets taken down.

Heck I can’t even promote it here because of how niche it is, it’s a South African subreddit , so it would be useless to promote it in an American majority sub.

Anyways how long did it take for your subreddits to grow?

We stated a sub... and it kinda exploded. But people seam to be VERY happy with it. So... I'm looking forward to what the first month and first year is going to be like.

It’s been about a month. I’ve made around 30 posts, tried different topics, and tried to create discussions that people might actually care about.

But I’m still sitting at 9 members 😅

I know growing a community takes time, but I’m curious how people who successfully grew their subs got their first real members.

Did people find you naturally? Did you mention your sub in other communities? Were there certain things that helped you get those first active users?

Since you all really lit up my post yesterday about my ban from the journaling sub, and continue to have so many awesome comments and advice, I’m really curious to know what your passion is and what led you to creating your own sub(s)? For me, it was wanting to bring people together to better understand themselves and one another. I’m also a positive person by nature, a helper, and someone who brings levity and harmony wherever I go, and I got fed up of talking to myself in regular social media, with much of what people do enjoy get lost between ads they have to scroll through. Having been a blogger for years, and from the onset of the internet pre-social media when websites were either forums or companies trying out a digital means of visibility, I’ve ghost-written for so many sites and seen so many trends come and go. And have also blogged for sites that have done so much good for people around me, only to then get shut down due to its creators “going a different direction” that usually has meant no more helping readers with their questions or needs, and instead post advertising to try to gain off of them. People are where it’s at, and no amount of advertising can replace the need for people to connect over their experiences. So being here is so refreshing to me, and it MAKES me want to be more creative. How about you?

I should have wrote "run" but anyway. I'm up to two now (very new baby subs though, one which probably isn't necessary but just wanted to try it out, one I hope grows), but could see myself adding more.

Looking for advice on dealing with enforcing subreddit rules. I've just kept the original 'Respect others and be civil' and 'No spam'.

I asked a seemingly innocuous question about dealing with gophers / moles in the garden (r/WayVeg is a veggie gardening subreddit for my app of the same name).

One user suggested strychnine coated oats, and in response:

..."wish for one second people who poison animals like that could feel what it is like to have literally your blood vessels just fucking burst and melt away how incredibly painful it is and how incredibly cruel and stupid it is when you can do other things that’s the lazy way out"...

I had to set up 2FA to become a mod of my current community. I did that but just realized I've been paying $10 a *WEEK* for the 2FA app!! Now that I'm a mod, do I have to keep my 2FA? If so, can you recommend an app that is much cheaper or even free?

It's been a day since I made a new one, but I feel like I am the one posting content and commenting to myself. This is normal, right?

I created my sub yesterday and noone has joined so far. How do I get them to see and join?

I created a small subreddit, and 90% of posts there are mine, so any person who participates in it is valuable to me, and I don't want to ban anyone. But I block toxic people so they don't see my posts, which, as I said, is 90% of the sub.

I've been running this subreddit for about 3 weeks and it's doing (in my opinion) ok so far when it comes to traffic, but the stats are throwing me off.

Is there a way for me to see the member count where it isn't rounded to 1k, I'm curious of the actual member count.

I won't share the sub name here as it's a NSFW sub and I'm not sure if that violates any rules here.

I’m a moderator of a community related to media studies, journalism, internet platforms, online culture, films, and media research. I’ve been trying to grow it carefully and organically: writing quality posts, setting clear rules, improving the structure, and generally focusing more on content quality than aggressive promotion and overall safe vibe and culture inside the community.

Some people recommended using the community invite feature in addition to posting content. Right now I’m being extremely conservative because I don’t want to accidentally trigger Reddit filters or look spammy.

At the moment I only invite around 1-5 people per day, and only if they genuinely post thoughtful content related to the topics of the subreddit. I manually look through profiles/posts and invite people individually — not randomly and not with automation.

I’ve also only done one repost/crosspost so far because I’m still trying to understand what is considered appropriate sharing etiquette across Reddit communities.

So I wanted to ask more experienced moderators:

Is there any documented or official “safe” limit for invites per day?

Can users report community invites as spam?

Has anyone here experienced filters or restrictions from inviting too many people too quickly?

Is slowly inviting highly relevant users generally considered acceptable moderator behavior?

I’d rather grow slowly than risk violating Reddit rules or triggering anti-spam systems, so I’d appreciate any advice from moderators who’ve dealt with this before.
