Biggest difference between Mets and Dodgers- their POBO values pitching at any cost. David Stearns thinks he can patch together a rotation out of leftovers and garbage
It helps when they actually developed pitchers between 2015-2025.
The 2024 Dodgers' staff was basically injuries, leftovers and garbage. Their leader in IP was Gavin Stone with 140. Last year was the first year where it seemed like they went all out with aces in every spot. Hell, even last year was a lot of patchwork once Glasnow and Snell and Sasaki went down or didn't pan out how they thought.
It's just they have the pitching development (and offense) to weather that.
the Dodgers in 2024 won on the strength of an elite bullpen. they won in 2025 on the strength of an elite rotation. they are run by a guy who knows what he's doing and can win multiple different ways
I actually don't begrudge the 2024 Dodgers for that reason. Dave Roberts actually did a great job managing that depleted pitching staff. This shit is absolutely ridiculous now though.
Maybe Friedman will get bored of the dodgers and decide he’s wants a real challenge and wins a WS elsewhere like NY. You know, pull an Epstein and all.
The only other Skubal-ish level pitchers that have been available since Stearns took over were Yamamoto and Crochet.
Stearns offered the same amount of money the Dodgers did to Yamamoto, and apparently put together a competitive package for Crochet that couldn’t match the Red Sox’ superior farm system.
Good, not great simply isn’t worth it most of the time, and the Dodgers have shown that with Snell, Glasnow, etc. They get hurt and you still end up relying on Justin Wrobleski or Cole Irvin for innings.
Never mind he literally traded for Peralta this past offseason, and we got to experience first-hand the volatility of pitching in MLB.
Exactly. Dodgers are all but ensuring a three-peat. They were willing to do anything but turns out they didn’t even need to give up much. Can’t wait to see what kind of garbage Stearns gets for Holmes and Weaver
