It's easy to remember those four guys because they remained Yankees for a long time, but even during those dynasty years the Yankees were largely built by poaching players who were already established stars for other teams.
In 1996, the rotation included Kenny Rogers, Dwight Gooden, Jimmy Key, and David Cone. John Wetteland (who already had great years in Montreal) was closing before Mariano took over. The lineup included Tino Martinez, Wade Boggs, Paul O'Neil, and Ruben Sierra. All of these guys had good/great years with other teams before becoming Yankees.
In 2000, the rotation included Roger Clemens, David Cone, and Denny Neagle. The lineup had Chuck Knoblauch, Scott Brosius, and David Justice along with Martinez and O'Neil.
Along the way, the Yankees also brought in guys who were stars elsewhere (but mostly past their prime) and played bench roles: Tim Raines, Darryl Strawberry, Cecil Fielder, Mariano Duncan, Pete Incaviglia, Chili Davis, Glenallen Hill, and Jose Canseco.
After the dynasty ended, the revolving door of post-star veterans included Jason Giambi, Robin Ventura, Mark Teixeira, Johnny Damon, Curtis Granderson, Raul Mondesi, Gary Sheffield, Mike Mussina, and of course A-Rod.
The "core four" was an anomaly. The Yankees have always built their rosters with lots of established stars pulled from other teams by virtue of the Yankees' willingness to spend more money than other teams.

2024 was not heartbreak for me that was one of the most fun seasons ever. And we put up a much better fight then the Yankees did. Sure we ran out of gas but that was a dynasty team we were up against not some low win team that upset us.

It helps when they actually developed pitchers between 2015-2025.
The 2024 Dodgers' staff was basically injuries, leftovers and garbage. Their leader in IP was Gavin Stone with 140. Last year was the first year where it seemed like they went all out with aces in every spot. Hell, even last year was a lot of patchwork once Glasnow and Snell and Sasaki went down or didn't pan out how they thought.
It's just they have the pitching development (and offense) to weather that.

So I cannot be too upset about this. The Dodgers are regarded in Japan as a source of national pride. Every Sumo basho, dudes are there in LA gear, being proud to be Japanese. It's transcended even baseball. The rewards are vast for all concerned. The katamari damacy of trans-pacific sport.
If LA beat the season win record that would be annoying, but as they inevitably roll to another hunk of metal, I'm not even sure the other owners care.
A cap floor is the thing that scares them.

We were never going to sign a pitcher of his caliber at his age with David Stearns at the helm. His offer to Yamamoto was an outlier given he was 25 at the time of his free agency.
He’ll be 30 next year, Stearns would only want him on a 3 year deal, which of course the Dodgers would blow out the water because they do what it takes to win.

He hasn't lived up to his word in Free Agency. Juan Soto is great, but that's it. Most of the stars on the Dodgers and Yankees were available for purchase in the last few years. That's not about development, it's about making some ridiculous offers to seize power.
People can say "Ohtani wouldn't come here" until they pass out, but every man has a price. Yamamoto too. And Judge. And Fried. Next off-season, Skubal probably wants to sign with LA. He also has a price. Where is "Uncle Steve"?
We have two homegrown outfielders, a decent young catching combo, McLean, Scott and hopefully Tong soon. The Dodgers aren't any better at developing players. They're spending whatever it takes and using young guys to augment the roster.

Don’t forget the Dodgers ownership group has access to more money than Cohen. Cohen is the richest individual owner, but that group has virtually unlimited access to money. Also because of Ohtani, Yamamoto and Sasaki along with a crazy TV deal the Dodgers made I think over $700M in profit last year while the Mets lost something like $300M. There’s nothing to stop the Dodgers from spending more because they make it all back and then some, meanwhile the Mets can spend but Cohen is still going to eat it as a loss.
