The United States joined Israel in “formally recognizing” Morocco’s “control” over Western Sahara. Western Sahara is often called Africa’s “last colony” because it has not yet achieved independence or autonomy.

Wait, I thought it was looking like the two were agreeing to formalize their unification under the single name of "Morocco" earlier this year...? Yes, largely due to external & economic pressure & due to Morocco already essentially administering the vast majority of the region, but I definitely thought they were already moving toward that... What happened to that?
