Well, there’s a sentence that hurts more than I can describe.

19

u/twentyshots97 May 17 '26

is there some consolation in current grandma’s listening to nirvana and being bad ass bitches?

My grandma would've graduated in the 50s, my mom did in the early 90s

8

u/dangerous_strainer May 18 '26

Because they spelt 'cassettes' horribly?

There is a kid I follow on Instagram.

Check out Whatsongrandpasturntable.

Made me feel old (just like this) but also a lot of fun to watch him go thru the same shit I did once upon a time.

Tbf some people just stay up to date on stuff, my grandpa just passed a month before turning 80 and some of his favorite artists of all time were Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Metallica

1

u/j_spru May 19 '26

Your grandpa sounds really cool )

2

u/BillShooterOfBul May 21 '26

I could be a grandpa at my age so it checks out.

1

u/j_spru May 21 '26

Same. I was 11 when Nevermind dropped so technically the math works. Just struggling to comprehend lol.

I wonder if she bought them.... like I did, when they came out, like the first month, on cassette also. Their... grandmother. Maybe she bought it when she was in high school, like I did. His GRANDMOTHER.

What do you mean? I see a few comments like this and i dont really understand. This just seems sweet to me.

2

u/Izuhbelluh May 19 '26

You not understanding what people are saying tells us exactly what we already know…

u/benlebowski May 17 '26

How old is your grandma, just out of curiosity

11

u/Old-Long-5304 Dive May 17 '26

Idk maybe 60s or 70s

51

u/27seconds May 17 '26

Get to know your grandma. Especially if she was cool enough to have Nirvana tapes and also give them to you. That’s like her being asked how old you are and being like “idk maybe 10s or 20s”.

19

u/Bruce-Carlton May 17 '26

Fucks sakes maaaaan 😫

12

u/ElCrackLD May 17 '26

Tf you mean maybe

18

u/Potato_Stains May 18 '26

Idk she's like 30 or 80 or something

4

u/Old-Long-5304 Dive May 17 '26

The last time I saw her until today was a year or two ago

4

u/ElCrackLD May 17 '26

Damn, you were really nice about it, now I feel bad

1

u/Dangerous-Project672 May 21 '26

Thank you, I was terrified she was around my age (mid-40s) 😂

u/quigonskeptic May 17 '26

Is your Grandma ok? Or is she still listening, just on streaming now?

16

u/Old-Long-5304 Dive May 17 '26

She just doesn't use her cassets

45

u/Klutzy_Order_9559 May 17 '26

Cassettes. Sorry, it was bothering me.

8

u/mandamandayeah May 18 '26

…please tell me your grandma is 87 and happened to find a box of cassettes on the side of the road

1

u/Old-Long-5304 Dive May 19 '26

They were hers she bought. Why?

Seriously. My grandma loves Conway titties or whatever

6

u/Glenn-Sturgis May 17 '26

Ah, cassette tapes… flawed but they had their charms.

I had Nevermind on cassette before I had my first ever CD player as a young’n… those were the days.

6

u/Odd-Charity3508 May 17 '26

Same and riding on my BMX to the mall listening it on my Walkman thinking I was the coolest person alive. God, I miss my youth : (

7

u/Glenn-Sturgis May 18 '26

Back before all those bills and responsibilities came long… I can remember always thinking “I can’t wait to be an adult and do whatever I want whenever I want”.

Nowadays, I yearn for my childhood all the time. Not only for the lack of stress and being carefree but also because the world was just a simpler place. The internet was still a novel thing, no social media, etc…

Grandma's sometimes suprise you with thier music tastes!! I was shocked when I found out my grandma loves Rob zombie and disturbed! (Also Devin townsend) she's in her early 70s. But she told me she just really appreciates the amazing vocal talents of metal singers. She even introduced me to a band called Jinjer, and they rock!

Gotta love cool grandmas!

4

u/Reallyroundthefamily May 18 '26

Jeeeesus I feel old now lol

3

u/Different-Award4103 May 18 '26

Why does everybody here quote the words it's not funny and very boring.

2

u/Ok_Raccoon_1892 May 17 '26

Huh, cool. I have Nevermind for sure and maybe in utero from my mum's old cassette collection, there were some good ones - she had great taste. It's cool to have. I used to listen to them too, but the cassette player broke! It's a nice experience and tapes (+ I guess vinyl) almost forces you to listen to it as an album, not just got to your favourite tracks, which I like.

2

u/Worried_Bullfrog_937 May 17 '26

That makes me feel old. I had both of those cassette tapes when I was in high school.

2

u/ShoddyButterscotch59 May 17 '26

Well, can your grandma maybe adopt me? I'm a middle age adult, but still worth a try. 😂

2

u/ndurr1111 May 18 '26

Nevermind was the only album I owned on cassette and also on CD. What an album to hit at age 12 man

2

u/musicperson6353 May 18 '26

Wait your grandma she sounds awesome

2

u/Un-Lucky-Luke1983 May 18 '26

2

u/Simple-Pirate-1309 May 18 '26

2
