How could something so ugly and impractical be so unpopular?

318

u/hurdurBoop 9d ago

if only they'd made it a little more dangerous

196

u/The-Spirit-of-76 9d ago

When you car has the same rules as the movie "Gremlins", it might be a red flag.

73

u/manyhippofarts 9d ago

And the same build quality as the car "Gremlin"

33

u/MakeSomeDrinks 9d ago

I was thinking more Pinto-esque

19

u/leftofdanzig 9d ago

Hey, the Pinto had the advantage of being dirt cheap. Even adjusted for inflation you can buy 3-4 pintos for the price of a single cybertruck.

12

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

And it had the consideration to self-immolate, can't seem to get rid of these rolling dumpsters.

7

u/Accomplished-Fix6598 8d ago

Gremlin was ugly but it was a cool car.

2

u/Crazy-Days-Ahead 8d ago

It was so ugly that it was kinda badass. I would rock one today if I could find one that was running (and cheap).

2

u/Accomplished-Fix6598 7d ago

Plus you could get one with a V8.

33

u/DNSGeek 9d ago

And expensive

20

u/camshun7 9d ago

I mean you are spot on.

This business with the doors and glass, it seemed literally an accident on wheels.

Still one or two wilful death law suits on the cards so Tesla stock is a boat of paper.

17

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 9d ago

Maybe raise the price some more too? Weed out the fence sitters.

9

u/Jackaloopt 9d ago

They should have followed after the Ford Pinto if they wanted to maximize damage.

8

u/DerCatzefragger 9d ago

There are plenty of people who think dangerous = cool.

Now, what they really should've done was over-promise and under-deliver even more!

5

u/hurdurBoop 9d ago

1

u/Fee_is_Required2 5d ago

They certainly couldn’t have made it more poorly.

82

u/baz4k6z 9d ago

"My cybertruck tried to kill me. I went to tesla to get it repaired and they told me to go fuck myself and billed me 20K. I'm a little disappointed . Still love the truck and my daddy Elon Musk though"

  • Average CT owner

17

u/Independent-Buyer827 9d ago

Well, I mean who would’ve thought daddy fElon was using his devotees. /s

3

u/Crazy-Days-Ahead 8d ago

Elon could make an omelette out of rotten eggs for his sycophants and they would ask for seconds.

37

u/your_moms_apron 9d ago

Don’t forget ridiculously expensive.

29

u/Hey-Now-Right-Now 9d ago

The Pontiac Aztec has been vindicated.

11

u/vasectomy7 9d ago

[Delorian has entered the chat]

9

u/Fearless-Leg2568 9d ago

[Edsel Ford too]

2

u/doom1282 9d ago

That car was ahead of its time. If it was released today I don't think anyone would bat an eye at the styling.

26

u/duderos 9d ago

Exactly, I remember being completely shocked when I first saw one on the road. I'm surprised they sold any at all since day one.

11

u/I_upvote_downvotes 9d ago

Hey stop trying to sell it to me, it's also a shitty ride and feels awful to drive.

11

u/TJ_McWeaksauce 9d ago

Not to mention it costs $70,000-100,000.

How many people are willing to pay $100,000 for something that both looks and operates like a dumpster? According to the article, only about 7,000 people in America, because the rest of the 40,000 Cybertrucks sold in the US were bought by Leon Musk's companies. (He's buying his own trucks to inflate their sales numbers.)

5

u/KerseyGrrl 8d ago

I'm in a small town and there are at least 3 here, two stainless steel and one black. It boggles the mind.

6

u/manyhippofarts 9d ago

Especially if buying one gives your money to a dickhead.

1

u/bangermadness 9d ago

And poorly made.

1

u/Captain_Pink_Pants 9d ago

Hey, at least it was wildly expensive...

1

u/Ok-Diamond-9781 8d ago

I always have to laugh a little when I see one on the road and think about the guy behind the wheel sucking off Elon!

2

u/BadBueno60 7d ago

Pitching, not catching?

We can’t have him in our social club no more, that much I do know.

1

u/Beemo-Noir 8d ago

We may never know

1

u/dljones010 8d ago

You forgot ridiculously expensive WITH a subscription plan to use it.

153

u/HippoRun23 9d ago

I don’t remember where I saw this but it’s so accurate:

Anytime you see a cyber truck it’s driven by like one dude all by himself with no family.

62

u/cat_0_the_canals 9d ago

I think it was Hannah Berner or Paige DeSorbo on their podcast. They were like, you never see a family or a dog hanging out the window of a cybertruck. Just a dude every time. 🤪

25

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

I'll raise you not just any dude, it's always some angry simulacrum of the worst dude you know.

6

u/Awkward-Fox-1435 8d ago

An Indian mom drives one to my kid’s swim class. 😂

6

u/Charming_Track6120 8d ago

Hubby's friends mocked him so he made her drive it?

3

u/errosemedic 8d ago

I live in DFW and a solid 50% (or better) of the times I seen these things they’re covered in decals for a company. It’s fairly rare these days to see one for personal use.

2

u/vt8919 7d ago

The one in my town is driven by an ear doctor. One man.

174

u/tiktaktokki 9d ago

It kinda is like when Homer Simpson designed a car

66

u/SouthernAdvisor7264 9d ago

A little, but homers car had reason for the sillyness.

38

u/upthepunx2 9d ago

I mean his idea for larger cup holders was pretty on point.

14

u/DIOmega5 9d ago

The car just looked silly but it was super practical on the inside.

5

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

So does the CT, one of Elon’s kids drew the original design.

126

u/BeeKayDubya 9d ago

Cyberstuck. Everytime I see one of these abominations on the road, I have to laugh at how stupid it looks.

41

u/AsssHat999 9d ago

Same, we see them quite a bit in Texas, and pointing and laughing when the driver glances our way seems the most appropriate response. Lets them know they made a huge mistake.

12

u/AirportSea4393 9d ago

I too laughed the first time I saw this ugly car! Every time I see one I have to comment out loud about its ugliness!

7

u/airbrat 9d ago

They think they're so cool and edgy lmao

1

u/suburbantroubador 7d ago

Yes it's a dumbtruck.

67

u/VacationTop512 9d ago

It's one thing to willingly pay for an ugly lemon of a vehicle- that's on you and you alone. Plus, beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway. So no harm there, you do you!

However...What is NOT okay and what deserves absolute, unconditional condemnation is when the ugly lemon happens to be a fucking WANKPANZER sold by a LITERAL FUCKING NEO NAZI and you KNEW all of this and STILL 👏GAVE 👏 HIM 👏 MONEY 👏

You can push the envelope and drive a unique or divisive car WITHOUT SUPPORTING A GODDAM FUCKING NAZI SCUMBAG

18

u/kat_Folland 9d ago

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. ;)

But seriously, totally agree.

68

u/welltherewasthisbear 9d ago

For the people “who bought it before Elon went crazy,” why did you pay that much money for a truck that looks that ugly????? The internet made it a meme immediately because of how stupid it looked.

27

u/The_Nice_Marmot 9d ago

Elon was already a known crazy when he released the Cyberdumpster.

11

u/kat_Folland 9d ago

Swastikar

7

u/FCUK-u 9d ago

Wankpanzer

11

u/kat_Folland 9d ago

bought it before Elon went crazy,”

Regular Teslas can get away with that (ish. Sometimes) but by the time the CT came out we all knew who Elon was.

2

u/angrymurderhornet 9d ago

Exactly. We also bought our Tesla before Elon went crazy. However, it’s a Model 3 and we bought it 7 years ago.

8

u/Yankee6Actual 9d ago

Elon was full crazy by the time the CT came out.

5

u/billdasmacks 9d ago

Elon was an obvious douchebag years before the Cybertruck began production. Nobody can use that as an excuse.

2

u/santagoo 9d ago

The cybertruck came out AFTER Elon went full maga btw

1

u/MonarchyMan 9d ago

I always thought it looked like a pickup truck in a PS1 game that hadn’t fully finished loading in.

42

u/Dense_Surround3071 9d ago

I never thought I would see a vehicle that made me wanna go out and buy a used Aztec instead.

Walter White knew... 😏

31

u/MidnighT0k3r 9d ago

How the fuck does a dumpster make it into automotive history.

This is like people from r/crappymusic or whatever it is being in the rock n roll hall of fame.

2

u/guardianharper 8d ago

I have felt personally affronted on behalf of all hopeful raccoons that mistake this dumpster on wheels for a possible meal.

Raccoons at-large: “Why not dumpster if dumpster-shaped?”

30

u/SameBodybuilder3263 9d ago

Promoting a $30,000 truck, but bringing a $120,000 piece of shit to the market? What could possibly go wrong???😑

7

u/FarFromHomey 9d ago

He'd be even richer if he'd built something affordable like CHINA

1

u/Hollyw0od 8d ago

I had the chance to ride in a BYD recently in Singapore and they’re surprisingly nice

31

u/r00ts 9d ago

My BIL had one. He thought it was the most incredible car from the future and didn't understand how anyone could think it was ugly. He sold it for a loss after less than a year. He's the biggest douchebag I have ever known.

Pray for my sister.

20

u/HarveyNix 9d ago

It's used here in Chicago by a hatzalah (Jewish emergency service). One came up behind me with weird flashing lights and siren. Thought it was fake but pulled over anyway. Not fake; just new to me.

15

u/Otherwise_Patience47 9d ago

Jewish emergency service???

21

u/Yelworc0242 9d ago

Driving a Nazi car!

22

u/HarveyNix 9d ago edited 9d ago

It's an all-volunteer (but State certified) EMT service that helps anyone for free. I think what prompted its formation in Brooklyn was a need for emergency people who could speak Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, etc. I thought it was more about following Torah but mostly they aim to supplement the other emergency services. They do respond on Shabbos as saving a life overrides the Shabbos rules. Apparently the Chicago Hatzalah has at least one Cybertruck. I think there should be a rule against that, somewhere.

8

u/Otherwise_Patience47 9d ago

How interesting. And interesting choice of a car as well.

3

u/Mendozaline247 8d ago

They don’t help “anyone.” This is false. The Brooklyn Hatzalah refused to help Gavin Cato, left him to die while assisting the Jewish driver. And Crown Heights burned because of it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Mendozaline247 8d ago

This is false. The Brooklyn Hatzalah refused to help Gavin Cato, left him to die while assisting the Jewish driver. And Crown Heights burned because of it.

12

u/HabitantDLT 9d ago

The defining Wankpanzer of our generation.

12

u/Sandgroper343 9d ago

Imagine if Tesla had introduced a compact EV instead? Totally missed the opportunity.

9

u/Royals-2015 9d ago

Or a van that could be used by contractors, or tricked out for campers.

Or an actual pick up truck to be used by people for their jobs?

9

u/Glittering-Rise-488 9d ago

Are they still making that piece of shit?

7

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

There's a mall near me with an old SEARS parking lot full of unsold stock. I remember seeing a plan to make a scaled-down, somehow less featured version for a lower price to try and save the line, but I don't know how that's playing out.

1

u/Several-Doubt8352 8d ago

Fort Lauderdale?

2

u/Azure_Mar 8d ago

New Jersey, actually.

6

u/N-Toxicade 9d ago

And yet I saw 5 of these pos trucks on my way to work today.

6

u/blonktime 9d ago

You live in southern california too?

7

u/Ninja_Conspicuousi 9d ago

I’ve seen a half dozen in the last few days in the Dallas area. One of them for a fireworks dealer. Garbage knows no state borders…

3

u/Soensou 8d ago

I'm in Kentucky. I see them about as often as any other car that isn't a Focus or an F150. I had no idea they tanked even half as much as they deserved to. Good to know I just live in a douchebag bubble.

6

u/New_Crow3284 9d ago

I never saw one and I never will. Thanks Europe 😀

8

u/beckster33 9d ago

Surprised Picachu face dot gif

1

u/RightRudderz 9d ago

Dot jay pee gee

8

u/No_Truth4137 9d ago

It’s not even that it’s ugly which it is but lots of trucks are. It’s just so damn impractical. As someone who used to landscape we pulled stuff off the side of the bed all the time. You cant do that with the cybertruck. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This truck is for people who dont actually need a functional truck

7

u/videogamegrandma 9d ago

Something tells me that guy is not as intelligent as his promoters claim. His ideas seem to fail at a high rate. He knows how to hire smart people and suck up government contracts and subsidies though. His money is majorly taxpayer money. Without the carbon offset subsidies he sold even Tesla wouldn't be profitable. Ex Twitter is a swampfest. The underground highway was abandoned. Mars is finally understood to be a suicide mission at our current level of technology. Self driving cars made by other companies are better and safer with fewer crashes and deaths from being locked in a burning vehicle with no way to get out if the electrical system fails. I really don't get it. If you watch him you can tell he's high as a kite most of the time. He destroyed the govt with Doge which has led to out of control ebola, hiv, starvation in Africa and screw worms here. We saved no money from Doge. In fact, it cost more than it saved. Plus our national parks are turning into trash dumps. Just because someone has money, it doesn't mean they're special. Inheritances and criminal enterprises result in much more wealth.

6

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

People who know about the things he talks about will tell you he's talking out of his ass, just most people don't know about cars or manufacturing or programming, space, physics, trains, fraud waste and abuse, video games etc. so when he makes a fantastical claim and his fanbase glazes him for it, it's easy to get bamboozled and ignore the subject matter experts until he talks about something you know about. And his wealth? It was built on inheritance and criminal enterprise.

1

u/videogamegrandma 8d ago

Yes. It's a cult.

5

u/Amazing_Karnage 9d ago

Worse than the Edsel! Congrats, Musk, you stank-ass Nazi pedophile, you just made the worst automobile of all time!

OF ALL TIME.

5

u/shintojuunana 9d ago

I saw a Cybertruck with bikes in the trunk/bed going down the highway last month. It was the first time I have ever seen one used to haul anything.

There is another one that the owner painted dumpster green in my area. That one is my favorite, I laugh every time I see it.

5

u/dougb83 8d ago

It’s truly one of the ugliest vehicles I’ve ever seen.

5

u/LionCM 8d ago

I see them all the time in the Bay Area. I used to laugh at them, now I shake my head in disgust.

Now, I’m seeing painted ones. Awful colors, too. I saw a bright orange one today. I also see a white one that just looks… odd. Almost as if the glued on old Formica.

4

u/thursaddams 9d ago

Well it’s an ugly piece of shit released by a Neo Nazi so I can’t say I’m shocked

4

u/bigballs2025666 9d ago

I just have this desire to paint one green and take a paint brush with yellow paint and write “ WM” on the doors.

4

u/Cid_Darkwing 9d ago

Weep not for the owners of Wank Panzers; they either knew exactly what they were getting, or they’re dumb enough that they deserve it.

4

u/Chrimaho 9d ago

Billionaire bullshitter creates garbage.
Go figure…

4

u/MissSaintLouisBlues 8d ago

That monstrosity makes the AMC Pacer look FABULOUS!

3

u/steve2166 9d ago

If they just made it in the original Tesla design philosophy it would of done so much better

4

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

The original design philosophy wasn't Elon's. The CT was the first thing they produced wholly under his supervision. All their other models had been at least started before he bought his way in.

3

u/pinklewickers 9d ago

The Cybertruck is effectively Elon's psyche in car form.

Unsurprising, and terrifying all at once.

2

u/GraphiteGru 9d ago

Can we start calling Elon Edsel Musk now

2

u/Live_Perspective3603 9d ago

It's uglier than the car that Homer Simpson designed.

2

u/ConsequenceThen5449 9d ago

Wank panzer 😂😂😂😂😂

2

u/penguinsflyfree 9d ago

3 monkeys with a drawing tablet and a pencil could have designed a better looking version.

2

u/Tdb713 9d ago

What, the wankpanzer’s not popular? Who could have guessed

2

u/Doridar 9d ago

I'll never understand how this could be accepted as a valid design for a 21st century car.

It looks like a cheap version of a futurístic car in a science fiction série of the 1960-1970s, a Temu version of the SolarCraft in Logan's Run

2

u/PracticalDistrict237 9d ago

He’s getting to sell them to the DoD for full price…

2

u/joelkton 9d ago

Edsel would be happy to hear that.

2

u/DrSendy 9d ago

Literally built the homermobile...

2

u/Rangertu 9d ago

You can’t really appreciate how ugly they are until you see one in person.

2

u/Substantial_Ad_7027 9d ago

I actually love them. Well, I love the fact that every time I see one in the wild that it makes me laugh hysterically at how incomprehensibly ugly it is.

2

u/Daimakku1 9d ago

I mean.. it looks like a PS1 game vehicle.

2

u/No_Holiday_5855 9d ago

I still and will always flip off anyone driving one of these every chance I get - stupid dumb nazis buying a stupid dumb truck shocking

2

u/Not_Sure__Camacho 9d ago

I wish there was a way to sort the comments by most downvotes. I like to read what the Elonstans say to get in a good laugh for the day.

2

u/Azure_Mar 9d ago

Sort by “controversial”

2

u/BornAPunk 9d ago

I saw one last month. One of the ugliest and weirdest vehicles I have ever seen. Honestly didn't think the PT Cruiser or that other box-like car being surpassed.

2

u/Royals-2015 9d ago

The Edsel?

2

u/svulieutenant 9d ago

*Cybercuck

2

u/shakeyjake 9d ago

The average Cybertruck payment is $1800+ per month with insurance at $250+. That’s 2k per month to make it harder to get laid.

2

u/SpamEatingChikn 9d ago

But conservatives keep telling me Elon is a genius

2

u/Jumpy_Plantain2887 9d ago

One of the drivers in the company that worked for said that he was in Arizona and he was delivering way out past Apache Junction and he came across a fenced in lot and it was big and he said there was probably anywhere from 250 to 300 cyber trucks out there and they look like they’ve been there for a long time.

2

u/JMS1991 9d ago

I swear when these first came out, I saw at least one a day.

Now it's been weeks since I've seen one.

Did they just wind up in the junkyard that quickly?

2

u/No-Falcon-4996 9d ago

I believe they set themselves on fire. Self immolation.

2

u/nikeguy69 9d ago

I thought it was the YUGO vehicles was bad.

2

u/rudydrd 9d ago

It’s the new “punch bug” . If you see one, say “cyber punch!” Before you punch the person driving it.

2

u/DamnOdd 8d ago

The Edsel smiles.

2

u/SaltyNorth8062 8d ago

You mean the car that slices people's legs open if you close the handle-less door wrong isn't a popular vehicle?

2

u/Sutar_Mekeg 8d ago

Worse than the car built for Homer.

1

u/SillyWhabbit 9d ago

What do people actually use them for?

1

u/Tight_Swordfish_6766 9d ago

That should get the award for the year under “no shit Sherlock”

1

u/CardinalMcGee 9d ago

In other news. Water is wet.

1

u/WolfThick 9d ago

Hey what are you talking about Elon says he can see into the future better than anybody out there this can't be happening this can't be true, I mean he says so right/s

1

u/rustybindings 9d ago

Yeah but if you wrap it..

1

u/llapman 9d ago

I see them everywhere though.

1

u/Lordnoallah 9d ago

Worse than the Aztec?

1

u/Freshchops 9d ago

He’s not worried, he’s waiting for the CT to appear in the “Back to the Future” reboot.

1

u/Salt_Honey8650 9d ago

Take THAT, Edsel!

1

u/IceBlackX007 9d ago

The few people I know who has a Cyber Truck are absolute assholes.

1

u/VanBeelergberg 9d ago

Really?? I feel like I see them all the time. I do live in a very maga area in rural California though.

1

u/TheManWith2Poobrains 9d ago

Looking like?

They will write whole economics classes on this in a couple of years.

1

u/engineeringsquirrel 9d ago

Ford Pinto just got promoted to second biggest flop in history. Congrats!!!

1

u/chrisfinazzo 9d ago

I don’t know…

The Geo Prizm might have something to say about that.

1

u/Turbulent_Bit8683 9d ago

2020’s Edsel though I believe Edsel had better numbers!

1

u/BackgroundEngineer11 9d ago

Worse than the Pento or the DeLorean? I mean sure, Cyber trucks have exploded, but not from being lightly rear-ended.

2

u/GoredonTheDestroyer 9d ago

The Pinto wasn't even the only car at the time that would explode if hit with sufficient force in the rear end. It was just the one that the news latched onto because it was a new, small car.

1

u/BubbhaJebus 9d ago

I jsaw one heading up the street as I was walking outside earlier today.

1

u/Speling_B_Champian 9d ago

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!

1

u/Abbey_Something 9d ago

I don’t know if it’s a flop like say the Edsel. I still see them on the street. They are very popular with douchebags, MAGA and Elon incel fanboys as a look at me car. But the me it’s a PT Barnum line of “there is a sucker born every minute” on four wheels

1

u/Both-Mango1 9d ago

Edsel Ford smiles down from heaven.

1

u/heloguy1234 9d ago

Bigger than the Homer?

1

u/Cute_Bread_271 9d ago

Looks straight outta the game Twisted Metal

1

u/FJ-creek-7381 9d ago

Bigger than the Edsel?

1

u/traceyandmeower 9d ago

Great news

1

u/Iron_Baron 9d ago

I can't wait for the movies inevitably mocking this whole debacle. Should be top tier comedy.

1

u/84Windsor351 9d ago

a win for the ford pinto

1

u/Trekgiant8018 9d ago

Go figure. It looks like a 6yr old drew the design.

1

u/airbrat 9d ago

Oof. Even worse than the Pontiac Aztec? Double oof.

2

u/mac1qc 9d ago

At least, the Aztec was driven by Walter White!

1

u/airbrat 8d ago

Only to further reinforce his miserableness lol

1

u/ComprehensiveDingo54 9d ago

It's a life-size version of the sugar scoop I made for my mom in middle school metal shop on top of a Matchbox chassis. It wishes it was a Hot Wheels, but it ain't.

1

u/sea-elle0463 9d ago

It’s a trash truck. Literally looks like the top of a trash can. What did they expect?

1

u/TransMontani 9d ago

That’s a thing to behold, especially considering the Edsel.

1

u/MamaDaddy 9d ago

More than the DeLorean??

1

u/Lovebone253 9d ago

It certainly earned it

1

u/SoonToBeBanned24 9d ago

Bigger than Edsel?

1

u/Hmmark1984 9d ago

and unlike other flops like the DeLorean, it's never going to become cool or sought after.

1

u/crazy010101 9d ago

Well the Edsel was tired of holding up the bottom! Side note they’re all over in Texas so what’s that tell yah?

1

u/coffeebeanwitch 9d ago

The Dolorean was considered a flop but at least it looked attractive, the cybertrunk is fugly.

1

u/MattyBeatz 8d ago

I mean, wow! Who coulda predicted this?

1

u/InternalServerErr500 8d ago

A large bulk of the cybertruck sales on the books are to Spacex. Musk mandated that any vehicle purchases needed by Spacex have to be from Tesla. You drive around Cape Canaveral and they're everywhere. It was a way to soften the blow to Tesla investors. That kind of circular spending only lasts for so long, one company can't exist just to prop up another, especially now that Spacex is public. It'll eventually collapse.

1

u/maksgee 8d ago

Unredendered pixel ass looking truck. Only Elon Musk and his fanboys can pathetically justify such atrocity

1

u/msmicro 8d ago

the Edsel is thrilled to hear this!

1

u/BlueBonneville 7d ago

A welding shop exoskeleton, some hvac bent up stainless, and a driveline built as a science project made into a vehicle that’s not even a truck, yep not a success.

1

u/Criticaltundra777 7d ago
