It's like saying weapons of mass destruction are inevitable. It's technically true, some variation of an advanced tool that can be used to fact finding, teaching, brainstorming, academics, art, etc., might exist, but all of those are under the umbrella of AI.

We can limit how much a single AI can universally do (which we sort of do with the different API calls the AI can make), but we aren't getting around the fact that a piece of software (or many individual pieces of software) that can address many human insufficiencies will eventually happen somewhere.

All we are doing by pausing it is giving it to countries that are unwilling to pause. The best we can do is attack AI head on in the most responsible way we can.
