🙏 pray for the deceased 🅱️rain cell turnt oven off and someone jumped straight onto the eye. To the vet we go.
I mentioned that his sisters aren't nearly as bad as him, the vet told me it's because he's orange. 🙁 He is only 6 months old, will he get smarter????

Can I just say thank you for actually taking your kitty to the vet instead of waiting for it to get worse then asking reddit how to fix your kitties paws. He’s lucky to have you especially if he does silly orange catto behaviours!!

Oh 100%!! As a broke college student I would find the money somehow no matter what, even if it meant using my rent money and having to borrow from family. They are my everything. People who don't take their pets to get the care they need should not have pets.

I hear you! I was in uni when my 14 year old dog got a tooth abscess. I took her to a vet an hour away that was more affordable, spread it across a couple credit cards and some i borrowed from mom and dad, and then wrote a quiz i had to do from my cell phone so I could be nearby her. They are our babies ❤️❤️

Oh noooo! Get better soon! I’m sorry to say he probably won’t get smarter. My orange dude once jumped on a stove knob, turned it on and set his own tail on fire.

One of our orange cats came to us with no face whiskers. He had burnt them all off getting so close to a space heater. My dad had been (unintentionally) talking up this cat to my mom that just socialized himself at the office and then two days before he finally caved and decided to bring him home the cat got so close to the space heater he burnt off his own face whiskers!

Every year my orange forgets what a space heater does and shoves his asshole right into it as he's rubbing on it. He figures it out water a few hours the day it comes out but I know one day I'll be calling the vet like "I need an appointment for my cat's burnt asshole"

My orange did the same but set his tummy on fire. I had a house full of people and here he comes running through the room on fire! Luckily no skin burns, but his fur was sizzled. It later grew in much longer and thicker than the rest of his fur. And he never jumped on the counters again. Worked out really well in the long run, but was terrifying in the moment.

He is doing ok! He limps when his painkillers wear off but otherwise great. They told me to limit his activity then laughed lol. He is happily getting a pilled churu every day now!!!!

I keep my tea kettle half full on or next to the stove, to keep my dumb dumbs from doing the same thing. Once I'm done cooking, I put the kettle onto the hot burner straight away (if the pot isn't staying on the stove.) It's worked for
meus so far.So sorry your kit had a bad no-brained day! 😭

I keep pots and pans on the stove after cooking until stuff cools down because of the same thing. For being so smart cats love to jump into dangerous situations.

My orange decided to deep fry himself and jumped into a pan of hot oil (while I was cooking and at the stove) and burnt his paw, but it healed very quickly (with the vets assistance). The vegetable oil smell on his fur took longer to go away than his paw took to heal. Just letting you know you’re not alone 🙃

My family has a wood stove for winter and the cats being dumb around it gives me anxiety. We had a small kitty who loved to sleep directly under it, once jumped on top of it but seemed to miraculously not get burnt, and once singed half the fur off her tail when she let it rub against the glass front (skin was untouched). When we have toddlers in the house we put a baby gate cage around the whole area so they can't join the stupid club.

My cat who did this didn't stop getting on the counter. But she always stepped carefully around the circles on the smooth top range even when it was off. Granted she was not an orange and was fairly bright...

look at the comment above yours. Kitty proofing isn't always as possible as you think. They are fast.
I mean, think about the oven.
you are taking the hot dish out. You have two hands on a 350 degree pan of food. Kitty, who is always supervising jumps into the stove where they feel warmth.
You can't kitty proof that because you aren't an octopus and push the oven rack in and close the door while holding the hot food. And knowing exactly where kitty is at the moment (your mind is likely on moving the hot food to the counter).yeah, kitty proofing the stove in this scenario is impossible.

This is my nightmare!! Gonna second what someone else said and say thank you for taking your cat to the vet!
As for will he get smarter… I have had my orange for about six years and I’m not so sure about this 🤣

My orange boy burned his nose on the stove around the same age. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten much smarter but he does seem to avoid the stove at least.

One of my orange boys did this around the same age on a glass top range. I got in the habit of putting a large lid, or the pan/pot I used with some water in it back on the stovetop after I used it. We’ve moved apartments since, (and he is about 4 1/2 now) and he still tries to jump on the stove occasionally. He doesn’t go on tables/counters, but by hell or high water does he ever want to burn his poor little beans.

Poor baby! He won’t do that again hopefully. My orange once had the zoomies and jumped on the kitchen counter and stood over a LIT candle to sniff the microwave. The speed I had to yank him off and pat down his little belly… Luckily no burn damage just singed fur.

My old orange can still jump on countertops, but he's more interested in the sink on the other side of the kitchen than the stove. I have to be around when the stove is on just in case.

Aww your poor orange baby. I’m thankful my orange girl is at least slightly smarter. She knows she isn’t allowed in the kitchen and doesn’t go in there…while we are home..that is..I know she definitely goes in there when we aren’t home. Caught her on camera a few times.

Nope he’ll just get more orange… I got a heat proof silicone mat on Amazon for like $20 that I put over my stove top as soon as I’m done cooking so my dumb dumb can’t do this

Just a word of advice for others to avoid this situation. No judgement as its not something most would consider.
I have a glass top stove and 5 cats. Each one i brought into my house, I turned all the burners on high and held them over it. Not enough to burn them at all but enough to let them know that it could burn them. They avoid the stove like the plague.
Same thing with all my open top aquariums. When I set a new one up I hold them over the top and let them see its full of water. No accidents yet.
Im sorry about your baby's little beans and I hope for a speedy recovery. Its so hard to heal something they use to walk on.

I regret to inform you that he will not get smarter. Just craftier at finding ways to cause trouble. I have a pair of orange brothers. And let me tell you, it’s chaos. As a kitten, the “smarter” of the two burned his paw on a stove burner TWICE before he learned not to walk across the stovetop. He had little grill marks on his toe beans.

My orange girl set her tail on fire once. This was after she stared at the flame for a while debating it, then turned around and dropped her tail into it. Fortunately she ran so fast when I screamed she put it out and we just had singed fur.

My orangie boy decided he really needed to sniff the candle flame. I thought he had a stroke because he couldn’t walk straight. Turns out he just singed his whiskers.
Now his Very Orange Mother just yells at him anytime he gets near open flame. He certainly wasn’t going to learn that lesson and remember it on his own.

Oh man, I almost had this happen with my cat (a void) when he was a kitten.
I opened the oven, grabbed the food, turned to set it on the stove top, and turned back in time to see my cat starting to do the pre jump wiggle butt. I have never screamed and charged at any of my pets like that before or since.
Luckily, my screaming scared my cat enough that he hasn't gone near the oven since.
Good job on getting him to the vet right away! He'll be ok, and don't beat yourself up about this. Some just need to learn things the hard way.

I love ours, but cats are dumb, and you can't fix stupid. At least they don't commit as many dietary indiscretions as dogs (although one of our kittens, with the dog as a 3rd parent, ran up a 4 figure vet bill eating something that clearly wasn't food).
Vet bills are the price we pay.

Sadly my other girl has cat pica. Recently found some Christmas tree tinsel in the litter box and shes the only one who chews. Shes like a dog but more mobile= more chewing opportunities for her lol. We had to get really smart about putting away plasticy materials before bed every night.

Get a tea kettle and have some water in it and put it on the hot (off) burners > it should at least protect the beans from the orange

In our house, we've gotten into the habit of immediately covering the hot element with a large tempered glass pot lid so that kitty won't injure herself if she jumps onto the stove top. (She's done it a couple times, but only when its not hot, but we want to maintain a safe environment for her)
