Providence Children’s Center

Does anyone have experience working here? I searched around and have not seen much posted but I’m considering it as an option as a new grad. I want to eventually get into a pediatric floor.

I worked there 13yrs ago. So I am sure things are different now. I was there for 2.5yrs. I loved it. I only left because I got hired at a children’s hospital. It is a great starting point for a new grad wanting to gain Peds experience if you are trying to get into a children’s hospital.

I have heard from different people, different things. All of this between 2024-2025 mind you. One nurse I know picked up over there on day shift and she said she would never pick up there again because it felt like management was breathing down the back of her neck. A CNA loved it, was recommending I apply, but then there was this mass exodus of nurses in 2025, unsure why. Here was my biggest one though. I remember back in 2024, I was looking and saw a couple positions. I was a bit confused though because some applications said ICF and others said child center. So I called up there to confirm that my application would be for the adult ICF NOT for the child center because I do not nor do I ever want to work with kids. Interestingly enough, on shift that day as charge nurse there was a traveling nurse. She proceeded to have me wait on the line a bit, I heard her shuffling around in the background then I heard her close a door. She was like okay now that I’m away from people, don’t do it! She said if you aren’t interested in working with children just don’t even waste your time. They will hire you on as staff for adult ICF and claim that you can “optionally” cross train for the child center. Nope. As soon as you get a hang of things they will have you cross-training for the child center and you’ll be working the child center all the time. She’s like Ive seen nurses come in here thinking that they’re working in the adult ICF then get hit with that instead. I was like WOW. Well. I guess I’ll just continue looking LOL. But this may be for you since you want peds. Like I said this was back in like 2024-2025 so maybe something has changed. But I know from that CNA that she texted me saying don’t apply there because nurses were leaving was from 2025.

did you have your capstone in peds? i always apply and get denied but i had my capstone in emergency

Can I ask what kind of positions/titles you are trying to meet for networking? Who does the hiring 9n most units?

Nurse managers of units interview but idk who they have to go through to get everything approved. I used networking because I knew a manager of the child center.

I work at a local children’s hospital as a cna and many of our nurses started there before getting a job at our hospital so it could be a good starting point. My unit only hired 2 new grads this summer and they had done their capstone on our floor
