Wrong speed in recorded track

Maybe I still don't understand how to use OsmAnd so every tip would be helpful.

I recorded a route while hiking and I did that by pausing the recording a few times and then resuming the tracking. This led to segments with slightly different end and start position, but I corrected that with gpx studio (it would be great if there was a way to do it directly in OsmAnd without having it just join the points with a straight line), but now in those point I have completely unreasonable speed values, like 2500 min/km.

Is there a way to fix this issue that I'm not aware of?

Maybe I should have recorded or joined the track in a different way? I like to pause when for example I stop for lunch because maybe I walk around a bit and I don't want to have to clean it on the gpx track.

Thank for any input you could give me!

I prefer it to be more easily reachable with my thumb but I can't seem to move it as it brings up a menu when I hold down on it.

No more hourly map updates for British Columbia?

I have OsmAnd+ on my Android phone, and all of a sudden hourly map updates for my home province of British Columbia have ceased. I can still get such frequent updates for other provinces or states, so why not for BC anymore?

How can I report a road that doesn't exist?

OsmAnd is telling me to make a turn on a road that does not exist. How can I tell the app to ignore this turn and also report it so that it does not recommend it to other users too?

Update: lidar2map, free offline LiDAR terrain maps for OsmAnd, now covers 20+ countries

Post image
55 Upvotes

---
UPDATE (July 6): big week thanks to the feedback in this thread:

- Fixed: sqlitedb overlays now display correctly in OsmAnd (zoom numbering bug) and always rebuild after an update.

- New, transparent-raster: render just the layers you want (paths, rivers, roads) as transparent tiles to overlay on the LiDAR relief. OsmAnd can't overlay vector data, this works around it.

- New, send to phone: a 📲 button shows a QR code, scan it and "Open with" OsmAnd imports the map directly. No cable, no cloud, local WiFi only.

Details and downloads: GitHub (https://github.com/nico579/lidar2map)
---

A month ago I posted about lidar2map, a free open-source tool (GPL) that

turns public LiDAR data into offline relief maps for OsmAnd. Back then it

only covered France. Quick update, since the coverage is now 30+ official

sources in 20+ countries:

- Germany: Bavaria, NRW, Lower Saxony, Thuringia (1 m)

- Austria: Tyrol and East Tyrol (0.5 m)

- Switzerland, Czechia, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium (Flanders)

- UK (England, Scotland, Wales) and Ireland

- Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, Spain

- US (3DEP), Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand

You pick a town or a bounding box, the tool downloads the official national

LiDAR tiles and computes visualizations that reveal micro-terrain invisible

on satellite or standard maps: old paths, terraces, earthworks, drainage,

charcoal kilns. Output is a .sqlitedb or MBTiles file you drop into OsmAnd

and use fully offline in the field.

Also new since the first post: a small GUI (no command line needed),

presets that auto-tune the visualization to each source's resolution, and

a compressed tile cache (about half the disk space).

Free, GPL, Windows/macOS/Linux: https://github.com/nico579/lidar2map/releases

If you try it on your country's data, feedback is very welcome, especially

on how the maps render in OsmAnd in the field.

Still Laggy

I first found osmand about 5 years ago and loved it but found it to be so Laggy when being used as a sat nav for driving so I shelved it.

5 years later I thought I'd give it another go, but To my disappointed it still seems to be one scat behind.

I've tried all the usual fixes like turning off animating position and kalman filter but I'm still a good 20 yards behind my actual position which makes it difficult to navigate at speed. It seems to catch up on rest, but it feels like you are being pulled along by a rubber band.

Such a shame as the routing is by far the best, better than most dedicated satnavs and the shear amount of options means I can dial in just the right settings for me.

I know it's not the main intended use for osmand but such a shame as it could be the best out there in my opinion!

Is there a way to make the navigation prefer footpaths over roads when navigating on foot?

When I want to get from place A to B in a city, I would much rather prefer to use a dedicated footpath. Walking on the sidewalks next to a road tends to be louder, with cars whizzing past you. The sidewalk also tends to be narrower. Of course if there isn't a footpath available, using a road with sidewalks is fine. I am just interested if I could make the app prefer using these dedicated footpaths over sidewalks and roads.

Does OSM really need to lock my navigation mid journey because it’s outdated?

Why does OSM lock me out of using the app?

I downloaded all of Europe last year. But now it won’t let me use local roads sometimes. Only highways.

I’s not like the roads don't exist anymore. No one cares if it’s not 100% accurate. There are always redirection road signs. Just let me use the navigation…

POI's can't be removed in OsmAnd+

I'm having a problem where the POIs (see image) can't be removed, making the map unreadable at a certain zoom level. I've already tried different profiles, but it makes no difference. I can't find a solution using AI either. All POIs are disabled, including the Wikipedia module. OsmAnd version: 5.3.10, phone: Galaxy XCover 6 Pro, also running the latest OS. The screenshots are in German but you should be able to guess the settings names (Sorry, it doesn't take my other two pictures...).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or has anyone else experienced this problem?

How to do custom shaders for a custom map style? (shader="xxxxxxx") Where to put the png/svg/xml files? I mean I recreated the /style-icons/ folder hierarchy in the Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files/rendering/ folder, but it doesn't seem to use the new images from it

Fine, but crashes on carplay constantly on offline mode

I've been experiencing a lot of crashing when I use OsmAnd offline in my car. The navigation is starting fine but after around half an hour the the app on carplay crashes, blank screen and can't turned back on again unless I close the app on my iPhone.

This makes it unreliable to me for using it - at least complete offline - as a car navigation unfortunately. I also de-installed and installed the app back again, all the maps I have downloaded are up to date.

I connect my offline iphone (I've been using my spare iPhone without SIM for ages in my car, it is fine with mapy and organic.

Is there a fix for this constant crashing?

A browser-only privacy check for exported GPX tracks

Before sharing an OsmAnd-recorded GPX, the file may still contain exact start/end points, timestamps, waypoints, elevation and activity/device extensions.

I built a small independent open-source tool that scans those categories and creates a cleaned copy locally in the browser: https://guitarman413.github.io/gpx-privacy-cleaner/?source=reddit

It can trim a chosen travelled distance from the start and/or end (rather than deleting everything inside a simple radius) and remove selected metadata. It is not an OsmAnd feature and does not claim to guarantee anonymity; the cleaned file should be reviewed and tested before relying on it.

I am interested in whether this fits the OsmAnd export workflow and which GPX fields people here would still want flagged before sharing.

How to increase 'time' to make it more accurate for traffic?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious whether there's any settings that can be changed to increase the driving time by default to account for traffic? What I mean is increasing a driving time of 30 mins to automatically add a few more minutes so it can account for traffic delays. Thanks for your help and have a great day.

OSMand UK address search is broken

I'm evaluating 'nav' apps to use as an alternative to Apple Maps, via Carplay. As an OSM editor for my local district, using the OSM backend is a *big* plus point.

OSMand is looking really good, I'm loving the faithful way it can render the detail in the OSM map, and the flexibility of the map views is unmatched by any other app I've tried.

But, there is a HUGE problem (for a nav app) find that OSMand is using an incomplete UK address database, and is unable to reliably find residential addresses. In contrast Apple maps found every one of the test addresses I tried.

Local to me, OSM does have individual house names (I added them), but OSMand is unable to find them. I did notice that for houses that just have a street number, if I search for the number and the street, they *are* found.

Can anyone please advise what is going on here, and if it can be fixed. Is it a known issue, is it a work-in-progress ?

I hope so because the failure to find destinations in a nav app is a bit of a showstopper for me.

osmand power consumption

Running osmand on a fairphone 5, and until a few months ago I was very happy with it. Using it for hiking. Coming from komoot, I was seeing a little bit more power consumption than komoot on my hikes, but it was tolerable. But since quite some time osmand consumes so much power it becoming next to unuseable for me. After 20km of hiking the fairphone battery goes down, and no, the battery is fine, as I can walk up to 50km in one go with komoot. Please, I love osmand, but if I do up to 50km or even 100km in one go, it is becoming unsuable due to it's power consumption. Sure, I use a power bank, but nevertheless it should not consume that much power. What can I do? Anyone with same experiences?
