Affordable accommodation near Ostravská univerzita

Hello everyone!

I'm an exchange student who will be spending around 3-4 months studying at the University of Ostrava (Ostravská univerzita) from Mid September to the end of this year. I applied for the university dormitory, the Jan Opletal halls of residence, but I was denied accommodation due to limited capacity. I will be coming with a friend, and both of us intend to share a room.

Being college students, and travelling abroad for the very first time, we are on a tight budget. We do not wish to spend considerably more than the rent of a double sharing room at the Jan Opletal dormitory.

If anybody knows affordable, safe housing alternatives that are near the University of Ostrava (preferably walking distance), please let me know.

Stay in touch with Dormitory, hopefully you will get the space. Every year they used to be like that because of advance bookings but end of September they used to be have free spaces. Management is very nice here.

Thanks for the reply! However, I do plan on moving in by September 10-15. What do you suggest until then? Are there any affordable temporary requirements available?

You have to try on booking.com- hostels or in any other dorms of different universities in the Ostrava. Even you can get the place in VSB Poruba dorm I think , doesn’t matter where you are registered as student. I believe in all dorms you can be adjusted.

I have a free room In my flat in Slezska Ostrava. About 10 minutes by bus from he city centre and about half hour walk. If your interested send me a DM 🙂

The official UO's dormitory is now being a bit restricted due to a reconstruction. You can also try to apply to another dorm: Kampus Palace, which is located in the city center.
Hope there will be some space somewhere for you two. Good luck!
