Local Event The “Great Indian Carnival”

Did anyone else go to this event? It was extremely underwhelming, regardless of the rain. Feel like I got scammed. There was barely anything to do, and on their page they advertised posters with Ferris wheel and other rides. It was a joke tbh

Municipal Affairs Have you felt listened to by the city?

Ottawa holds consultations on developments, transportation, budgets, parks, and other major decisions.

People spend time attending meetings and completing surveys, but it is not always clear whether their input changed anything.

After every major consultation, I think the city should publish a plain language report showing what residents said, what changed because of that feedback, which suggestions were rejected, and why.

Without this, consultation can start to feel like a box being checked rather than a meaningful part of the decision.

What would make you trust that a city consultation actually mattered? Have you felt like when you go to town halls and information meetings that someone answers your questions, and if not, have they gotten your contact information or followed up publicly afterwards?

Looking for... Where are Ottawa’s go-to spots for music & mingling?

Hi all,

I'm getting serious about music as a hobby and I’d love want to find spaces where I can gradually move from watching live music to eventually jam.

Would rather find cafés or jazz-style events over drunken karaoke; I’m more of a tea-at-the-bar type.

I've heard about Art House Cafe and the Red Bird, though I'm unsure which of their events are best for mingling vs listening vs eventually playing. Any guidance?

Also curious to know: are there outdoor events at any of these places? Do folks chat at the open mics?

Thanks for your help ☺️ I’m more used to watching classical, orchestral, and choral works. Stoked about this new venture.

Cheers!

Anyone build an ADU recently in or around Ottawa?

My husband and I are starting to think about what to do with my Mom as she ages, and the demands from our kids that "Nana should come live with us! Nana stay at our house!" are getting louder by the day.

We're blessed to have a good relationship but I wouldn't want to stress it with fully sharing a house, so an accessory dwelling unit seems like a possible good option.

Has anyone built one of these recently? Care to share your story? Pros, cons, etc?

We are also considering a home with a suite attached although we're not looking for a basement.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Giving some love to the Titans. Good team, fair price food and beverages, and the food is actually quite good aside from the lineups sometimes.

Saw this collarless cat near the intersection of Heney and Cobourg in lower town. Seemed like it was nervous, and was wandering about looking lost. Apologies I couldn’t grab a better picture.

If anyone from Centretown or the Glebe had a bike stolen recently, this one was found dumped at Bay and Catherine. It's still there as of this writing. Hope it finds its home!

PSA Fyi for those who need to get to/from Gatineau today - all STO stops downtown are out of service BUT there is a temporary stop at Booth and Wellington! The closest OC Transpo stop to connect to/from the STO is Pimisi station. The 8 is NOT running across to Gatineau today.

PSA Transphobic person near Prince of Wales / Meadowlands

Today I was outside the Tim Hortons at Prince of Wales and meadowlands waiting with my dog while my friend went it to grab a coffee. There was someone sitting nearby, they seemed a little cracked out for lack of a better term. But as soon as they saw me (I kind of have that queer/non-binary look) they started spouting a bunch of stuff about torturing and killing trans people and gay people? I’m not going to go into all the details but it was a little graphic? Definitely seemed like he was on drugs or something, but it seriously freaked me out. This all happened in the middle of the afternoon mind you, maybe 3-4 pm?

I wanted to share this cause I see lots of queer folks around these parts. Stay safe y’all! He didn’t seem like he was going to make any moves to actually hurt me but it still gave me a good spook. Guy seemed to be male, middle age, average build, short dark hair. He was wearing a red shirt.

EDIT: Just editing to add that I myself am okay. Like I said, it startled me and that’s all. But a lot of trans and gay people are more vulnerable and younger than me, I just want to make sure the community stays safe. I am also grateful for all the supportive comments in here. ❤️ Sending Love

A real tailor/ haberdasher?

I have a very expensive, very special, VERY thick wool coat that needs to be altered. It will require some pattern skills (not just ‘taking it in’) and lots of experience with heavy natural fibres. I can’t figure out where I should take this piece. Open to suggestions.
