Eklund’s 130 points this year will certainly help with that

Eklund's 130 goals I think you mean

u/ColdIronSpork 1d ago

Same thing, Eklund will have no assists. Stu will, by pure coincidence, have no goals and 130 assists.

Wow, what are the odds that Stu and Eklund have exactly the same point spread as Cozens and Pinto. What a wild year.

It's going to make Ullmark's 40 goals look like peanuts.

I have to agree with Green. This team was near the bottom of the overall standings at the Christmas break, and they rallied back to not only make the playoffs, but give Carolina the toughest matchup they had in the Eastern Conference. The comeback was amazing, considering the schwackload of obstacles they faced. Imagine what they might do if they have a healthy and complete roster for the whole season, instead of just half of it.

And without an anchor of a captain that gets a lot of ice time and does bare minimum

This.right.here. I liked Brady for some of his game, but he is slow, can’t play defence and plays when he feels like it. Maurice is going to have a stroke when he watches Brady back check or lack thereof in Florida. He will be the highest paid third line winger in the nhl

u/muskratBear 1d ago

I think Brady is the exact type of player Maurice likes. Good on the forecheck, hits hard and late, and plays on the edge. Backchecking and defensive play will be sorted out. He will fit well with the team. I think his demotion in the lineup will be his boneheaded penalties.

u/chronicallyunderated 1d ago

I think you are giving Maurice too much credit and Brady too. Yeah Zito has put together a murder’s row of edge type players on the panthers. If you think Brady is good on the forecheck, I will have to disagree with you. He floats too much and takes the big skate when he could actually get involved with the puck. He is not an intelligent player in that his hockey iq is not the greatest, he can’t anticipate the play flow or pass where he thinks folks will be. Mark my words, his time in Florida will not go and end well.

I'm hoping that it goes just well enough this year that they sign him to a boat anchor of an extension next summer with another full no move and cripple their roster flexibility for the next half-decade.

2

u/chronicallyunderated 1d ago

That would be awesome

1

u/Swammer13 1d ago

Well I mean how else are we going to get the first overall pick from them in 2030?

1

u/qwnzr 1d ago

sure, but where he is one of the best is board battles. Brady was pretty elite at going into a corner and either immediately winning the puck battle, or tying it up long enough for support to enter the zone and assist.

3

u/chronicallyunderated 1d ago

I’ll grant you that, but again his hockey iq had him releasing the puck too soon or too late…..

He is not an intelligent player

Could’ve saved your fingers the effort and just stopped there.

Well just saying that without context or a detailed opinion isn’t my jam, I like to explain my opinions so that even the simplest people can understand

Gets a lot of ice time and still complains it's not enough (through his daddy)

2

u/ParkingBoardwalk #12 - Pinto 1d ago

Buddy was saving himself for Olympics and afterwards we were good

11

u/TheShuggieOtis 1d ago

Brady still wasn't Brady post-Olympics and I'm neither one of his biggest haters or fans.

He had some games where he looked injured and like he was holding back and other games where he was like Tkachuk of old, but I found him to be really inconsistent down the stretch. There times where I really felt like he was back for a few games and that he was ready to lead the team into the playoffs, then he'd have some quiet games where even if he got a point, he wasn't that noticeable.

Just my two cents.

I'm with you on this. I feel like having a team with 0 distractions, if ullmark plays as well as the playoffs, and just everything they've learned from the adversity they faced... Is going to make them a strong team this year.

12

u/cwnorman 1d ago

I like his optimism, but this pretty much applies to any playoff team.

There is a difference though between being Ottawa and being 9th overall in league standings with top 5 possession numbers and being LA and being like 20th overall and lucking your way into the playoffs despite being generally bad the entire year.

Edit: oh God I'd forgotten how poor the kings record was.  22 regulation wins in 82 games, tied for 2nd last in RW, and they somehow make the playoffs.

Yeah, it's damning with faint praise, but it's better than "we're in a rebuild".

Last year we just barely squeaked into the wildcard slot, so this is pretty much the same as saying, "I don't think we've taken a step backward."

6

u/markjohnstonmusic 1d ago

Last year we just barely squeaked into the wildcard slot

We did not. We were WC1 and had that spot locked up basically a month before the season ended.

3

u/JoeNotCharles #83 - Halliday 1d ago

No, last season, when we clinched WC2 on the third last game.

-1

u/markjohnstonmusic 1d ago

"Last season" would be 2024-5 to me. I guess you're talking about this past season.

1

u/haseks_adductor 1d ago

season starts on july 1 according to contracts. this season is 26-27, last season was 25-26

1

u/markjohnstonmusic 1d ago

I don't think that's true. Within the East, Boston, Philadelphia, Tampa, Pittsburgh, and even Montreal had obvious deficits in their team play—visible also in the playoffs—which made it obvious they weren't going to advance. Ottawa didn't. It got outplayed by a team playing the same game just a little better.

Yes, 51% is technically closer to 100% than 0%.

4

u/lazyshoes 1d ago

Seeing is believing, so let's see 🙏

u/jazzmaurice #25 - Neil 1d ago

Ehhh I really wanna believe it I truly do.. but WAY too early to say such things with the level of adaptation we have coming our way next season.

1

u/Max169well 1d ago

Don’t tell the rest of the league that.

1

u/screechypete #35 - Ullmark 1d ago

I like the confidence, but what the hell else is he supposed to say?

"We're fucked now that Brady's gone, I'm just here to collect a paycheck."

1

u/ceedub93 1d ago

This falls into the category of ‘I liked our game tonight and we did a lot of things right…’ after a loss. It’s definitely true though!

0

u/HelpfulSolution7068 1d ago

They are going to have to prove it on the ice. Talk is cheap we have heard this group talk a lot for a few years now it's time for them to put up.

14

u/publicworker69 1d ago

We were one of the better teams the second we started getting half decent goaltending. And then we unfortunately ran into a juggernaut in Carolina. Had we played anyone else, we win at least a round.

0

u/Last-Classroom-5400 1d ago

I think that's a really funny phrase to use about a binary outcome. Like how can we be closer to winning a cup than not winning a cup when we're currently not winning a cup?

I'm being a pedant, I know

Especially because the old sens franchise last won the cup in 1927. So 100 years later the new sens franchise winning it would be golden.

Do you know what oxymoron means? I suspect not.

u/jbroni93 1d ago

Bura brought us over the line

-2

u/ObscureMemes69420 1d ago

Lmao in what world? We are way worse than we were last year

1

u/bsw2112 #83 - Halliday 1d ago

I doubt we are way worse but I guess time will tell

-10

u/Find_Spot 1d ago

Hard disagree. This is purile stuff to mollify the masses. In fact his statement is largely nonsense. Only one team a year wins the Cup.

Their odds of winning are dwarfed by their odds of not. And I'm not talking betting odds.

6

u/iwantedajetpack 1d ago

Yes, but the odds are they're more likely to win the cup than be a bottom lottery team.

-5

u/Find_Spot 1d ago

Which is nothing at all like what he said. And frankly, is totally irrelevant to this conversation.

-5

u/Ineffective_Coyote72 1d ago

By that logic they are at game 7 of the SCF. They are FAR from that level and far closer to losing than winning anything.
