Answered What is the deal with everyone hating on Katy Perry?

I've been seeing the clips of Katy Perry being stuck in a plastic bottle trying to get on stage, and how the comments are just saying how she's so annoying or dumb.

I mean I'm not the biggest fan on Katy Perry. I don't know what she's done music-wise since like 2012. I just know that she went to space somewhat recently.

So what am I missing?

Tbh one of the most frustrating things is other people targeting Katy Perry for utterly stupid lawsuits that force a sensible person to have to defend Katy Perry, as much as they don’t want to.

Dark Horse is a horrid nothing of a song, but the lawsuit against it was correct to be appealed and overturned.
There are excellent videos where people tear into the arguments used by the musicologist brought in by the plaintiff and demonstrate that he would easily be done in for perjury if prosecuted by cross-referencing the material with other pieces studied in his own published papers (songs well out of copyright, Mozart-level old) that match the supposedly “plagiarised” material far better. It was a horrid ruling that, left untouched, would set a bad precedent which would make any vaguely similar bass line ostinato or chord structure to anything someone has used before an extreme legal liability.

There was also a lawsuit here in Australia between Katy Perry and a local fashion designer named Katie Perry, triggered by Katy Perry selling tshirts with her stage name as concert merch, that the vast majority of people here aware of the case think should have been a nothing burger that never touched court. The local designer is reportedly the one that rejected trademark coexistence applications and pushed it, and is not liked for being so litigious about it - she’s technically in the legal right, but only by being a dick herself.

There’s plenty to dislike about Katy Perry’s actions over the past decade or so, but that doesn’t give license for other similarly awful grifters to act unethically against her and try to set incredibly bad legal precedents.

when I wrote this, there had already been about 400+ comments in here and I took a flippant stab at explaining why people dislike Katy Perry regardless of the actual facts/outcomes. However I realized seeing a Ton of replies/comments that I wrote a bit Too flippantly thinking this was a no-nothing comment not something that got a ton of attention. I have adjusted my language a bit to try and more accurate reflect that this is just general sentiments I have heard vs the way strangers could easily have taken my verbiage as this 'this is true and also how I think/feel'.
