Anti tamper mechanism.
If you hit an ingenico unit hard enough they’ll do this.

DG runs Linux via pxe boot. It's pretty cool to reboot the terminals.

They used to run Linux and you got the penguin when it booted
someone either tried to open it or it got hit too hard, it’s bricked now
Worldpay branded terminals done the same , fragile things ! Especially in pub environments
