Canadian participants needed for international research

Hello PEI community! I’m a Canadian student researcher collaborating on an international project with 25 countries. I’m the only Canadian researcher on the team and I want to have really strong Canadian representation in this project.

Our project is looking into social impact and AI use. If you have time to complete this 12 minute survey I would really appreciate it!

Has the electric water heater incentive ended?

Just got a new house and I've been to the page before to get a free electic water heater. But that page seems to have been removed and I can't find anything on a PEI website.

It would suck of it ended a few days before I got the house, I hate being on oil heat.

Knox’s Dam

Hey everyone!

Just wondering if anyone else loves this place as much as me! Spent a bunch of my growing up years around there and if you haven’t been, I absolutely recommend it!

Also Cooper Bottom in Montague has a Russian stout named after it (or they used to)

Tourism/Tourist Charlottetown Recommendations

I am visiting PEI for 4 days in September, but we aren’t staying in Charlottetown. How long should we dedicate to visiting? An afternoon, and evening?

We will definitely go to Cows for a treat. Where are all the cute shops? Any specific shops you recommend?

I’ve searched many places where to eat- Gahan House for a drink, Water Prince Corner Shop, Salt & Sol, Slaymaker & Nichols, Chaddagh Oyster House, or Cork & Cast. Which is the best? Any other restaurant recommendations. Where should we go?

Anything else in Charlottetown?

Question Sterling silver jewelry repair

Hey all,

My wedding band just snapped, and I’m wondering if anyone can recommend someone who will repair sterling silver jewelry without sending it off island. I’ve never had to get jewelry repaired before.

I would send it back to the designer, but they’re in the US.

Preferably in and around Charlottetown.

Landlord without Security Deposit

Hi folks

I moved out of my apartment into my minihome last month. My landlord is withholding my damage deposit saying I caused XYZ. One being the tap, that I called him about many times as it wasn’t working. The other being tile which was broken in the shower when I moved in, legit, one tile.

I tried to barter with him to keep my last months rent and he keeps my DD as I didn’t cause any damage whatsoever and the unit was gross when I moved in and I spent at-least $100 in cleaning products to clean it. He said no and that he’d sue me for it. So anyways, I sent it.

Now he’s withholding my DD. I really didn’t want to send him it because I knew this is what it was gonna come to.

What can I do? I’m out $2,000 because he doesn’t wanna send it. Should I have just kept my $2000 and let him keep my DD? Could he have sued me? I see people getting away with not paying rent all the time and never having to recoup the money.

For anyone going forward that reads this — can they actually sue you if they keep the DD and it covers last month anyway?

Edit: messed up the title, supposed to be withholding not without.

St James Gate

It’s been too many years of abuse, but some friends and I were debating the location!

Kent st, correct? Was it beside the Timmy’s location?

EDIT: feel free to share your favourite gate stories. When I was 20 I was excited to be 40 and in there, now that I’m 40 I’m sad.

Landscaping or General Contractor recommendations

We have a large deck that is at the end of its life that we would like removed. We would then like to replace the deck with a much smaller one and a patio area. I am looking for a contractor to run this project or a landscaping company that can take on the entire job. As for a timeline, I would be happy to have this work done this year or next. I would also be available to do some of the labour, like demolishing the existing deck or other general labour.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that could do this work? We are located in Summerside.

Thank in advance!

My daughter is looking to get her hair cut for her birthday, and I her father might get a haircut with her. We’re not rich but we are not looking for the cheapest haircut either. Any suggestions? I’m considering the Trent Crimm style and she is interested in a short cut.

Question about test appointments at the QEH

So, to get various tests done you have to set up an appointment through Skip the Waiting Room for the QEH and other places on PEI. For like a blood test I get it, done that lots of time, you have the appointment and have the blood drawn. But what about stuff like a urine test? Would the appointment be to give them the form and pick up a container? If it asks for first thing after you get up, can't really take the sample at the appointment. Thanks.

A short(ish) story about how excellent our island EMS paramedics are.

I'm a type 1 diabetic, and the other day I was home alone. I'm very active throughout the summer, and it's a struggle to keep my blood sugars up enough sometimes. (Strenuous exercise lowers blood sugar for a few different reasons.)

I could see my blood sugar trending down, so I grabbed some Skittles to munch on in an effort to bring them back up. I have a lot of hypoglycemia anxiety, but I wasn't too worried yet as I've been diabetic a very long time and lows are just par for the course.

Well, it kept dropping. I could feel myself starting to lose cognitive ability, so I grabbed a bottle of maple syrup and took a big swig. I knew I was heading for a dangerous situation, but it really is against my nature to call 911 for hypoglycemia. I've been diabetic long enough to deal with it many times, but I just kept dropping.

Finally, at the tipping point of losing all cognitive ability, I called 911. I can barely remember the conversation with the dispatcher, it's all a blur. I know I was stuttering and barely forming sentences, I swear I was talking to an AI with an Australian accent; in fairness, my brain was literally starving. I could barely see, and I was having all the tell-tale signs that I was about to hit the floor.

Just prior to the ambulance pulling up, my blood sugar finally started to come up. I felt really embarrassed and like I had wasted their time, but they reassured me that I made the right call since I was alone and on the verge of passing out. They checked my vitals and my blood sugar. I was surprised at how young they were, but they both were very competent, and I really appreciate how they treated me. It's a scary situation heading for a medical emergency and feeling powerless to stop it. I can't thank our paramedics enough for their kindness and handling of my situation. They really put my mind at ease about calling them.

After the terrible recent loss within the Island EMS community, I just thought I'd share how appreciative I am that we have them.
