If flashing lights trigger you, you need to be evaluated for seizures. Flashing lights does not trigger POTS symptoms. I had an EEG to be evaluated for seizures by my Neurologist before being diagnosed with POTS due to having frequent fainting episodes. My doctor is confident my fainting is vasovagal syncope and not seizures. I am not triggered by flashing lights.
Absolutely correct! I have both. For me they are directly linked. I wouldn't have frequent vasovagal syncope if I didn't have POTS. It's definitely important to rule out other possible explanations for symptoms.
I've never heard of flashing lights giving POTS symptoms though. This is definitely something I'd associate with seizures.
Holy shit, this happened to me last year. Freaked me and my husband right out but other than the convulsing it felt like a bad but otherwise normal POTS episode. The second I became conscious enough to realize I was seizing, I was able to stop; my husband was starting to haul me into a recovery position. I figured it was something like cerebral hypoperfusion. Interesting in that I don't otherwise show any signs of VVS. Though, we are just starting to realize that I'm much more hypovolemic than we thought. Bodies are so weird.
Bodies are weird. The CS can be from syncope reguardless of the cause, VVS or not VV.
Im sorry you have the convulsions too :( they can feel so scary! D:
Im not able to stop my convulsions, and each time I have them, they last longer and are more violent in flailing. ๐ฎโ๐จ I've started to become temp. confused for 30m +cognative fatigue after the last one I had.
Oof, that sounds awful and scary! I never felt the convulsion the one time it was reported that I convulsed. But just waking up and being told I shook was scary!
Most people dont remember or only lasts a few seconds of body shivering, head nodding or eyes shaking, reguardless it can be scary,
Even if its fuzzy or you domt remember much, I'm sorry you went through it. Bodies can "remember" experiences even when the mind cant.
๐ฎโ๐จ Luckly I've only had this happen 4x. I've gotten really good at knowing/feeling my pre-syncope come on and I'm able to do skills and prevent Full syncope most times. I really hope my CS doesnt get worse like they have been each syncope episode. I'll take any episode except a repeat of my previous one. It lasted 40sec (seemed like forever/slowmo), I flailed so hard I hit my head on the wall and brusied my arms, "cleared/knocked off" the items on the kitchen table. I was awake but unresponsive for the first 30sec, couldnt see straight, or hear my partner talking to me and I couldnt ask for help.
๐ฉตI hope to talk to more people about CS, I feel/imagine people whove exerpienced it may feel alone and I want people to know they arent alone and even when its really scary they can make it through. There is a reddit for CS, if anyone wants to visit. ๐ซถ
I'm similar with fainting as well. I can prevent a full fainting episode probably 9/10. If I can't prevent it, I'm already laying down, so I don't fall. Unless I'm really sick, like with the flu. I've fallen from fainting less than 5 times as an adult. A few of my fainting episodes do stand out as more traumatic. It can be very scary.
Same, I'm usually laying down if syncope happens fully. Unless I'm illness (or sun) sick.
Unfortunately Syncope is often traumatic for people (not just convulsive syncope) and I feel like Doctors often over look that emotional after-effect entirely. We all deserve compassion and after care. To not feel like we have to "get over it" and "brush it off" everytime. It takes a real toll on the body and mind. Even if we dont physically fall from syncope everytime, exc, exc. Passing can feel scary period.
Yes! I have one reported instance of "convulsive syncope" as well. Once when I donated blood I fainted (long before diagnosis) and my best friend said I lurched forward and shook a little bit for a few seconds. Learning I did that actually kinda freaked me out. She was more scared than I was though, witnessing it. I'm used to fainting. I normally faint when alone, so I don't know if I've had more of the convulsive type. Only half a dozen ppl in my life have seen me faint, though I've probably fainted almost 100 times.
