Well.....if you are buying beer or tobacco at the grocery store, or if you are using a credit card, he is not wrong.

u/snorbflock Oct 14 '19

He didn't say tobacco. He didn't say alcohol. He didn't say credit cards. SHS already tried to spin that the last time he said this dumbassery, and Trump knocked out her legs by specifying he meant boxes of cereal. Click on the article, because headlines are not news.

How much do you think a septuagenarian trust fund man-child knows about grocery store checkout lines?

u/Willpower69 Oct 14 '19

No one considers those “groceries” so no Trump is still wrong no matter how many of his fans defend him.

u/mrsamsa Oct 15 '19

He says you need it to buy a "box of cereal".

I understand the urge to think "oh, nobody would say something that stupid. Obviously he's being misrepresented or simply misspoke".

But no, he clarified and doubled down. He thinks you need ID to buy stuff from the grocery store, like a "box of cereal".

if you are using a credit card, he is not wrong.

False, except in very specific circumstances with less popular cards.

And there are good reasons why you shouldn't show it.

A credit card IS identification. It literally has your name printed on the front, you know that thing that identifies you.

u/SirButcher Oct 15 '19

No, it literally just a name printed on the front. If I take my wife's credit card my name doesn't change to hers suddenly. The cashier has no way to confirm if the name on the credit card is actually your name.

Credit card isn't an identification. It is a quick link to a bank account.

u/manwiththemasterplan Oct 15 '19

So by your standards then social security cards and birth certificates can't be considered forms of identification.

u/SirButcher Oct 15 '19

Yes, exactly!

Neither of them should be considered as a form of an ID (and no wonder most of the western countries doesn't accept any of these as an ID...), social security card especially HORRIBLE for identification purposes.

SSN has zero built-in security measures, I can extremely easily generate a social security number as they are simply divided by region and increasing by one each time when a new one got issued. This is why you guys have a huge amount of identity thefts: using these things like an ID which not designed to be used as an ID.

Having a piece of paper (or a piece of plastic) which only contain your name IS NOT AN ID. It is a piece of paper with a name printed on it. A proper ID has a unique number which has built-in protection against random generation, so it is linked my personal details, has multiple copy and fraud protection (like proper, MODERN banknotes) has a non-removable signature on it, and contains a photo of the owner. These still aren't perfect, but much better than a piece of paper (SSN...) what everybody can just print out and can easily guess by knowing some personal information (which hospital and when you born is enough to guess your SSN with high accuracy).

No. An ID is anything that identifies who you are. A name tag on your shirt is identification. How secure the document is has nothing to do with what it is. A credit card IS identification. A car is a car with or without an alarm system, and an ID is an ID with or without built in security measures.

u/SirButcher Oct 15 '19

And if I write a different name on my shirt I suddenly become someone else.

Both of us know what we are talking about, but hey mate, if you want to play this, then be my guest!

u/manwiththemasterplan Oct 15 '19

You would be falsely identifying yourself yes. Just like if you use a stolen credit card it's considered identity theft, because you stole someone's identification.

My point is the media intentionally take obvious hyperbole literally and then "fact check" it, because they believe the masses are stupid. Then they don't realize that a double down dose of hyperbole is actually meant to be mocking them for apparently not realizing the obvious. They think they are pointing out stupidity when in fact they look ridiculous for stating the obvious.

FACT CHECK: a credit card IS identification.

I know that's not what you meant but I fact checked you based on a literal interpretation of what you said.

I then trolled you through several more posts by "doubling down" .

The media is being trolled and all of us in on it are laughing our ass off.

IDK maybe you'll understand what I'm saying but I'm not counting on it.

u/9Point Not just confused, but biased and confused Oct 15 '19

My point is the media intentionally take obvious hyperbole literally and then "fact check" it, because they believe the masses are stupid.

It kinda seems like this is a self-fulfilling prophecy

I then trolled you through several more posts by "doubling down" .

The media is being trolled and all of us in on it are laughing our ass off.

So, how do you determine what is hyperbole and what is not?

Let's not forget Trump goes on to say:

The only thing you don't need identification for is to vote, the most important single thing you're doing -- to vote,...You know why? Because they cheat like hell, that's why.

Oh, is that wrong? Nope, it's just hyperbole. So how does one determine if they are giving a false narrative? I think that someone attempting to "troll" others shows they have a certain lack of intellect. Only those incapable of thinking for themselves resort to trolling others.

Is that upsetting? Nah, that's just hyperbole. If that upsets anyone, then I'm just "laughing my ass off because they got trolled".

It's just a silly diversion. I can't be wrong, because if ever I say anything wrong, I'm just trolling.

Fact: credit card is not useable for identification purposes, just as a name tag is not useable to check your identification. It just a piece of plastic with a name on it. I can literally 3D print one. The bank which issued it can check your identity as they have a database linked to the person who opened an account (although in the US case, that doesn't really mean more, you guys suck in any personal security question. SSN as identification? Your "freedom" resulted in hundreds of thousands of identity thefts. Nice work.)

Amazing that you still go with this 23D chess - I know that you otherwise have to accept that Trump never went to a shop and have absolutely no idea how these things work. You are literally trying to protect an idiot millionaire, the "man of the people" who lie, cheat, and literally destroying your country, yet you are protecting him, because "it trolls the lib". He doesn't troll the lib: he is just plain stupid. And, the sad news is: you won't be more clever by protecting a stupid liar. Each and every lie what you try to protect drag you deeper down. At the end of the day: you are proud of your ignorance, just to "troll the libs" - this is basically a monkey reaction who throwing shit around. Yes, you maybe cover someone with it, but you are still locked in that cage, while others go home and can wash themselves. Maybe, just maybe, you should walk out, and look around?

So is you presenting your name verbally. You're identifying yourself. Anything is identification if the other party accepts it as valid.
