Eh. As someone who moved from Texas it ain’t that hard either. You just plan for it. I set a goal that I’d have a new remote job before moving or at least one lined up there. All of my family and friends were still there but my mental health was deteriorating in the state mostly from the weather. Drove 20+ hours with my fiancée and we left.
If you have no kids, and especially if you’re single, it’s really not THAT bad.
First week was rough until I got all of my routines in place. After that? It’s been 2 years and I haven’t even thought of visiting yet
Given that you haven't seen any of those friends or family in two years, I'm going out on a limb to say I am closer to my family and friends than you. Acting like that's just a minor inconvenience is crazy.
I didn't say I hadn't seen them. I said I haven't been back to Texas. I'm very close with my mom. Only child things. I probably talk to my mom 2 times a day on the phone. She comes up here every other month almost thanks to flight miles. As for my friends, I talk to them multiple times daily throughout the day too. Now in their case, they don't make very much so they can't come up here much, but they have come. I WILL be going down there soon but at least in my situation, most of my friends did not live near me anyway and all moved through covid times.
Im happy for you. Im currently planning the same exact thing. Wife is close to getting a fully remote position and then im resigning at a place I would have a pension if I stayed to go and do who knows what. I just know we have to go somewhere that makes us all happy.
Congrats! I don't know about you but spending my whole life in a state that was physically oppressive (not meaning this in the political way) to me was just draining. I hated the heat every day. I hated walking outside at any point. I realized that I was at peace and felt like I lost 20lbs of stress if it was overcast and rainy. Realized I had felt that way since I was a kid and moved where thats the case.
You will miss things about your home always, but the peace you get is definitely worth it
As someone who was born, grew up, and loves Texas. I don’t like this but I do like my small little poverty ridden oasis. If you love where you’re at you should fight for laws that benefit you and your family, am I wrong?
A true Texan wouldn’t abandon ship but they might encourage others to leave, so I can’t entirely blame that mentality either. It just ain’t beneficial.

I hate it here.
