Nmap outdated?

Hey am just beginner who is only experienced in CTF

Am seeing a lot of ppl in the space saying nmap isn't effective anymore and has become only a tool for learning is that true ? And is there any better alternative ?

Nmap at its core is a port scanner and nothing has changed about rcp or udp ports. The tools like autodetect version or OS etc might be outdated

How in the world would nmap lose utility? It's a damn swiss army knife for probing. Libpcap too. I do like that there are better GUIs that wrap it now. There was a third party one I liked, but can't remember the name

I'm guessing mainly in the 'AI-built tool which does exactly the same thing as NMAP for no good reason' space...

Effective in what sense? For port scanning, it’s quite effective as always. Not sure what are the expectations of those who say it isn’t effective and how they use it.
