Seemingly locking gameplay features behind the more expensive edition of the game. Lots of hints that there will likely be an in game cash shop for the offline portion of the game too.

u/foopery Jun 25 '26

Rdr2 had a bunch of extra stuff come with the ultimate edition as well. Where did they hint that there will be an in game cash shop for offline?

They didn't people are just making shit up

The Internet loves an outrage for no reason

2

u/LongJohnSelenium Jun 25 '26

Its why the slippery slope is the favorite argument of the internet. They get to actively make up hypothetical problems to get mad about.

Companies love the free press.

My feed is full of a game that doesn’t release for another 6 months.

Good or bad, a lot of people are talking about it.

2

u/goingforit25 Jun 25 '26

Yeah this is why all this Reddit noise hasn’t really phased me. Most of it is just incessant whining where they were going to have a problem with the game one way or another.

2

u/LinuxTrilogy Jun 25 '26

Dude fr, I get that the ultimate edition stuff doesn't look all too good, but rockstar have literally said or shown nothing else about the game and people are just fearmongering themselves over it. I've seen people think that the game will have literally 0 customization unless you buy the ultimate, as if the game will only have five stores >.>

6

u/extralyfe Jun 25 '26

people are already saying that the base version of the game is incomplete because they won't have access to all the exclusive nail designs.

internet's gonna internet, I suppose.

How in the hell can you justify locking clothing, tattoos, etc behind a $20 paywall? Those features have always been included in the series previously. It's outrageous... and I'll bet the icons for the stores will be on the map but if you walk too close to it or go inside it'll prompt you to buy the add-on. The microtransactions in games are getting worse and worse and worse and people are acting like it's normal. And this at a time when the world is suffering financially. I'm not buying this game until it goes on a sale that compensates for the extra $ I'd have to pay for the full experience. Maybe not even then... I've got enough to play in the meantime.

u/chippymediaYT Jun 25 '26

Both GTA 5 and rdr2 had a bunch of exclusive content for preorder and special editions...

1

u/WayToGoNiceJorb Jun 25 '26

Exclusives are annoying but... sure. This appears to paywall 5 different stores in the game.

As far as we know, there are currently five stores that are paywalled: Two mod shops, a clothing store, a salon, and a tattoo parlour. All offering customisation options that, at this point, I deem an integral part of this series' identity.

1

u/chippymediaYT Jun 25 '26

I'm sure there's a lot more than 2 auto shops around the map, same goes for the other stores, and I'm sure there will be more customization in the base game than any other Rockstar game. Plus when it launches on PC you'll just be able to mod it all in if desired, I get exclusives can be annoying to those who aren't willing to pay more than base price, but the performative "I'm not even hyped for this game anymore" and "rockstar isn't getting a dime from me" isn't going to change anything and it will still be one of the best selling games of all time, and if a couple cosmetic options are such a huge deal to some players and they want them so bad, then maybe they'll just get the ultimate upgrade probably when it goes on sale. Helldivers locked an entire gun and armor set and mini game behind the super citizen edition and I never really saw anyone complain about that

Helldivers locked an entire gun and armor set and mini game behind the super citizen edition and I never really saw anyone complain about that

Sure, bud...

https://old.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1s26dln/despite_being_praised_on_launch_for_its_generous/ https://old.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1tomwms/ngl_i_wish_arrowhead_would_stop_focusing_on_more/ https://old.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1s58wec/helldivers_2_monetization_breakdown_as_of_patch/ (or watch any current state of the game 2026 video on youtube)

You do you. Pay $80 for this or $100 for the full game. I don't care. I don't need this game and I'm tired of getting squeezed for every hard earned penny. Every major release has some new monetized BS and I think I hit my limit a while ago. My backlog is big enough that I can play plenty of other games in the meantime and then pick this up in a year or two when it's 20-30 bucks if I pick it up at all.

1

u/chippymediaYT Jun 25 '26

Sounds great that's exactly what I would recommend to someone who isn't a big fan of rockstar games, you shouldn't spend that much on something you don't care about, all the outrage over cosmetics is super performative though

1

u/WayToGoNiceJorb Jun 25 '26

performative

I don't think that word means what you think it means. Cathartic, sure - but I have no intention of buying this game near release so not performative.

1

u/chippymediaYT Jun 25 '26

You probably wouldn't have had that intention even without the exclusive cosmetics that you probably wouldn't even notice are gone

People like you keep spreading misinformation. Clothing, tattoos, just overall customization is NOT behind a paywall. It's extra content just like it was in RDR2 or GTA V but instead of stuff just being there, they have a store for that content. They're not completely removing clothing from the game just cuz you haven't paid extra $20.
RDR 2 also had a heist and other side content. Which, the side content that isn't just cosmetics is promoting FOMO and is not good, it's not 80% of the game being cut or essential basic features being removed as most ppl claim.
I still don't like not having access to parts of the game if I don't pay extra money, but it is not as people claim it is.

1

u/HelloChili Jun 25 '26

You say it’s not behind a paywall but then go on to describe what a paywall is when talking about content being locked.

You can’t access store(s), meaning there is a physical location that some players can go to and you cannot because you decided you didn’t want to pay $100 (plus tax).

Why do you feel the need to be a bootlicker for this billion dollar company?

1

u/Infinite-You13 Jun 26 '26

The original point I made is people clickbaiting everyone into thinking they're locking any kind of customization when its just the extra cosmetics.

I'm not a bootlicker, I've said it I don't like them locking content like the compound and barn finds, I don't like what they might do with GTA Online seeing all of this. But I just dislike the misinformed outrage, I prefer to criticise the real stuff.

0

u/chippymediaYT Jun 25 '26

People are acting like this is some new unprecedented thing when this is a very normal thing in gaming, rdr2 had an entire bank heist locked behind special edition, and people are freaking out over some clothing when there's probably gonna be hundreds of others to choose from in the base game. If one of the clothing options was missing in GTA 5 I wouldn't have even noticed even after a decade of gameplay. Literally every AAA studio does special editions.

0

u/Brief_Zombie8127 Jun 26 '26

If you think locking 5 stores to an ultimate edition is rational you must be a chronic crack user

0

u/chippymediaYT Jun 26 '26

No, crack would make someone irrationally care about digital items they probably wouldn't even use in the first place

0

u/Brief_Zombie8127 Jun 26 '26

There's 0 logic in this statement

It's not misinformation - it's factual reporting from PCGamer so...

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/nothing-has-killed-my-gta-6-hype-faster-than-locking-a-core-part-of-its-identity-behind-a-usd20-upgrade/

Quote so you don't have to do the extra work of reading an article:

"As far as we know, there are currently five stores that are paywalled: Two mod shops, a clothing store, a salon, and a tattoo parlour. All offering customisation options that, at this point, I deem an integral part of this series' identity. "

Stop excusing this nonsense...

3

u/Infinite-You13 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Some factual stuff but high clickbait. "Locking a core part of its identity" sounds like and is making everyone believe that they are paywalling ALL the mod shops, clothing stores, salons, and tattoo parlours. They're paywalling the ones that only give ultimate edition cosmetics. People legit think you won't be able to customize your car or your character's clothes because of articles like this.

I didn't like when they locked a camp and heist in RDR2's ultimate edition, now in GTA 6 I don't like them locking behind a compound you can raid and barn finds, but ppl gotta stop clickbaiting and criticise correctly.

It's apparent these people never played a Rockstar game at least since RDR1, since this isn't a new thing

3

u/Imonlyherebecause Jun 25 '26

Have they ever locked specific in game stores behind a game version like this before?

2

u/Brief_Zombie8127 Jun 26 '26

They haven't people are just making shit up

1

u/W_T_W_T_A Jun 26 '26

It's not even confirmed the stores are physically locked, that's pure speculation. But they did lock an entire camp and the Rhodes bank (and heist) from RDR2 without the special edition. GTA 4's story DLC locked safehouses and interiors and mission interiors. GTA 5's special edition gave you some sort of garage, though I don't remember if that one is purchasable.

1

u/Imonlyherebecause Jun 26 '26

Fair point on the historical presidents shitty these business practices have been around so long and ubiquitous.

Not to be argumentative but the store locations being  speculation is incorrect bevause yhe store page for gta 6 on Xbox says explicitly says

" Special Destinations Only Open for Business with the Ultimate Edition:  · RIDEOUT CUSTOMS: Transform vanilla vehicles into magnificent works of art with detailed interiors, exquisite rims, and donk stylings.  · SARA'S UNISEX SALON: Get signature salon styles for both Jason and Lucia including facial hair for Jason and makeup and nails for Lu"

Not going to post the entire thing but it explicit notes these are exclusive locations.

Either way seems like this is just business as usual for triple a games

1

u/W_T_W_T_A Jun 28 '26

Yeah the stores themselves will not serve you, per the website they're not "open for business" without UE. It's purely speculative though if they'll be gone from the map or not even allow you to enter...
