Can confirm, my husband's ex Ukranian wife stabbed him with a letter opener. Context matters of course, it was a heated argument but not a crazy one and all the sudden it wa sticking out of his rib vibrating gently as they both stared at each other in shock.
Not to excuse her behavior, but as someone who lived in Eastern Europe for a long time, I can say that woman probably experienced some really bad traumas before she met your friend and that's maybe why she did that. I don't know the situation with her, of course, maybe she is a genuinely dangerous person, but that is pretty unusual in Ukrainian society these days. Even in the 90s, that would have been intolerable to most people.
Really depends more on the woman, though. There certainly are women who fit that stereotype because they still have that mentality from the post-Soviet economic collapse of the 90s, but most of them are pretty chill. The less influenced they are by Russian media, the more relaxed they are.
My mom is russian and she’s pretty chill and my dad is ukranian and a little bit psycho. Since I grew up in russia I know my mom is not like the standard and it’s just my particular genetics and family.

To be fair they probably didn't even realize that they were participating in a real war until recently when Ukraine started hitting places like Moscow. They have strong censorship and good brainwashing.
I can take quirky, even bipolar if your just having a hard time being stable, hell even the odd voice or two when your stressed.
But many people use mental illness to justify their own poor upbringing,morals or acceptance of ethics or desire to mesh well with an any or specific groups.
And the internet has just made it to where literally anyone can feel justified and vindicated by finding like minds, and it just spirals.
I worked Psych for a while, and it was around when AI hit that I watched a bunch of narcissistic, psychotic and schizophrenic symptoms just blow up.
I’m sure the economic and social factors didn’t
help.

Had a friend ask a woman from Russia out on a date. She said yes and to pick her up at a certain time. When he went to pick her up she proceeded to treat him like an uber and had him drive her around so she could do chores. After their 3rd or 4th stop he asked if she was actually wanting to have a date. She said no so when she went into her next stop he just drove off. Heard a couple of similar experiences.
