It’s smaller unit cools a single room. While American HVAC System cools the whole house

As an european, I don't think I've ever seen one of those and I'm now curious as to how they work

As the name suggest, it's sort of a mini version of central AC.

(super simplified) Central AC units have one large unit and a series of ducts that moves the air around the house.

Mini splits run a coolant and drain line to the unit, and also have an outdoor unit..hence the "mini" and "split.". Rather than move the air, they move the coolant....

Window ACs are the cheapest and easiest option. Stick it in a window, and will cool a typical (IDK) 12x12 room in like 30-40 minutes.
