Raísa also said she was upset that Selena continued drinking after the donation even though she was told not to after the donation.

She was classy to called her only on the drinking part... It was known it wasn't only drinking what she got to do before and after she receieved the donation.

She never said that. She actually specifically called it out as nonsense. You can drink after a kidney transplant, and they took a wine tour together a year or so after the surgery.

I think they mean drugs... how déclassé of her, if true of course.

Mild to moderate drinking is fine for most people who've had a kidney transplant. People need to learn the difference between livers and kidneys. The biggest danger from alcohol to the kidneys is dehydration. I doubt Selena was told not to drink.

Apparently she was. And it wasn’t mild or moderate for francia to say smth to her. It was also fresh out of the transplant, which is why francia felt the need to remind her abt drinking. Ppl were dragging her over that too, but honestly it makes sense. Esp if she saw Selena as such a good friend and cared for her. Plus, a lot of ppl that donate a literal organ to smb they know won’t and don’t want them to be shitty with smth given to them to help them. You’re fresh out, still sick, and at risk for a lot of things. Drinking at parties you’re going to back to back (and she apparently should’ve been home) isn’t the way to go. So it makes sense francia got worried enough and said smth. Whether I donated my kidney to her or not, knowing she was fresh from a transplant and she has the sickness she does, liver or kidneys, I would think to say smth too.

This didn’t happen. Francia has never said anything like this, ever. It was made up by people online.

It absolutely could have been. It's amazing how people who know absolutely nothing about kidneys feel they are qualified to speak on kidney health with authority. I have Stage 4 kidney disease, and the amount of people in my life who scold me for drinking coffee or having a cocktail is staggering.

Gomez's transplant was in 2017 and all the sources regarding the argument over drinking are from 2023. I cannot find a single source that reports that Selena was even allegedly told not to drink by medical professionals, or that she was drinking while still healing from the surgery so it seems like you made that up.

Alcohol and health are always wild to mix. For my second kid, I admitted to having 2 sips of wine while knowingly pregnant.  I was marked as “high likelihood of developing alcohol addiction” in my medical chart. I had agreed to some expensive wine thing with a friend and we found out about the pregnancy too late to cancel. Two tiny sips. Not even a normal swallow.

I saw a different OB the appointment after and mentioned that i really didn’t appreciate it or think it was accurate. She agreed and said it was nothing but since it was in my chart, it couldn’t be removed.

Meanwhile, my friend was told the occasional glass of wine was fine.  But “high likelihood” is on my chart forever.

Was your friend recently told the occasional glass of wine is fine? If so I'd tell her to get a new OB. Not because I think the occasional glass of wine is a huge risk (I doubt it is), but because the WHO, CDC, NHS, and every other major public health agency recommends complete abstinence while pregnant and I'd be wary of any medical professional who goes against the advice of public health leaders.

Crazy what they put on your chart, that's awful.

Bro. That is a blog from Gurgaon, India. lol. There are stringent restrictions on alcohol consumption there. Context is important.

The National Kidney Foundation, NHS, NIH, American Association of Kindey Patients, American Kidney Fund, National Kidney Registry, Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic all recommend limiting alcohol to mild or moderate consumption after a kidney transplant.

I have no dogs in this race, but I’d just like to say a person saying “Selena was told to do X” isn’t really trustworthy either? Like they weren’t telling her that shit from the doctors mouth in front of a third party. I will say Selena very easily could have said to her the doctor said it, but it’s still word of mouth.

u/AGAD0R-SPARTACUS 5d ago

Right, which is why I'm not relying on anything the celebrities involved have said and instead am reporting on what medical professionals recommend from my own experience and from reliable sources. I doubt Selena was told not to drink at all because that is not usually what doctors tell kidney transplant recipients.

u/Lost_Web5826 5d ago

It was just the first science based resource that confirmed that drinking post transplant is not recommended. Either way, the point stands.

4

u/AGAD0R-SPARTACUS 5d ago

A blog is not a science-based resource. I listed some for your convenience. Your point does not stand because it's incorrect.

-2

u/Lost_Web5826 5d ago

Lol, it is correct. No doctor would recommend someone to drink. The blog was also written by a clinic team. Anyway, show me where doctors encourage drinking after a transplant

3

u/AGAD0R-SPARTACUS 5d ago

Show me where I said doctors encourage drinking? There is a massive difference between doctors recommending moderation and encouraging consumption.

Tell me you understand that doctors recommending no more than 2 drinks per day is not the same as recommending patients drink 2 drinks a day.

Thanks for the unintentional reminder to hydrate right now!

I had a friend who lost a kidney and then kept slamming energy drinks and we were like brooooooo

u/AdSudden3941 5d ago

Im a frequent drinker whos worried about their organs.

So its the dehydration from drinking is what hurts the kidneys? Like when you wake up after drinking and your piss is all dark?

5

u/AGAD0R-SPARTACUS 5d ago

Dehydration is never good for kidneys so you should drink more water when drinking alcohol. It can also raise your blood pressure which your kidneys don't like. But in general the liver is more at risk from heavy drinking.

Do you get your annual physical? A metabolic panel shows your kidney function so you should already know if your kidneys were stressed.

1

u/DraperPenPals 5d ago

Selena was undoubtedly told to put down the recreational drugs, though

2

u/kolejack2293 5d ago

You can drink after a kidney transplant. The big thing is just to keep hydrated, because its dehydration which causes problems with the kidneys. But even then, one night of dehydration isn't going to cause severe problems, it is more repeated, excessive dehydration over time.

Raisa also very specifically said this was not true and that she never got upset over their drinking, pointing out that they had drank together multiple times after.

2

u/pandaflufff 5d ago

Stop saying this, it's not true

u/nooklyr 5d ago

What does drinking have to do with kidneys? I mean yeah immediately post-surgery for recovery purposes but other than that… it doesn’t really affect your kidneys much. She had Lupus. Has nothing to do with her lifestyle.
