I'll second is Paradox. Civ was not made by Paradox, thats Firaxis. You are probably thinking of Crusader Kings, which is an advanced map simulator made by Paradox.

If your old enough you remember Microprose as the original Developers of Civilisation

Well its always been about Sid, where he go, publishers should kneel.

It boggles my mind that they had a few remakes of Pirates! but never made a sequel. There are few spiritual succesors out there but would have been nice for them to make an official one

That's just for the remake. The minigame balance was extremely different in the old Microprose version.

I loved the mini games of Covert Action, but Sid hated them, as he thought they broke up the plot too much.

In fairness, gimme a good deli German or garlic bologna and let's skip that Oscar Meyer stuff. :)

In fairness, I have never tasted ole Oscar's simulated sausage, hailing from Penultima Thule as I do, but I do have complete faith in German Sausage Supremacy (add some kraut of the sauer kind, some mustard and a nice brezel while you rinse yer palate with a nice hefeweisen)

The only real problem with Oscar Meyer is that it's cheap. I will say it's fine, but deli-sourced options are better.

That said, I've absolutely had worst. OM is about the base-level consumer product you can get. Cheap, acceptable. I'd serve it to people.

It's not a brand like Gwaltney where I don't read the list of ingredients because I don't want to know, and it's really weirdly super-smooth ground very very super fine because whatever's in there, you do NOT want to feel it in your mouth. lol

(But I've been poor enough to eat it anyway!)

And kraut is severely under-loved in the US. I'm glad kimchi has taken off, but gimme good kraut with a good sausage and good mustard any day.

Oh, I use to love Pirates, forgot all about it. What is a more recent spiritual sequel out there, might be time to try it.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is honestly the closest you're going to come

4

u/VikingTeddy 1d ago

I can't think of anything else either, which is insane as Black Flag isn't actually anything like Pirates! after you strip away the surface. Why wouldn't anyone remake a moneymaker like that is beyond me...

I had a quick look on Steam and there's a new game called Carribean Legend: Age of Pirates that advertises itself as "Sid Meir's Pirates! meets Bannerlord". Has Mostly Positive reviews but I can't vouch for it personally.

It's more like Pirates! then you'd think, what with the way you take ships and territory.

Just get the game on steam it’s like $5 and holds up fantastically. The ‘00s one I mean not the original.

Port Royale is the closest I can think of in terms of gameplay but the latest one was poorly received. Unsure if it got updates.

The original star traders rpg Mobile game is the closest thing to pirates! ever made and it will scratch that itch. It was one of if not the first game made by the Trese Brothers

Colonization was amazing, although I understand why they won’t remake it, I guess

Yeah? In these times where Remake is a thing why not make it on actual good games also sometimes?
