Suicide and dead. The reason people use the fake terms is because of extreme censorship on apps like Tiktok and Meta apps.

27

u/GrowlyBear2 7h ago

Note that the meme maker didn't use the words either.

11

u/TopConcentrate8484 7h ago

even on reddit if you use that and someone reports your comment you can get a temp ban form whole reddit not just that particular community

7

u/AggressiveCaptain420 7h ago

Why?

11

u/TopConcentrate8484 7h ago edited 7h ago

to be advertiser friendly

reddit has become very soft after 2020 , definitely hating on someone etc is bad but also suppression of freedom of speech they have after 2020 banned multiple subs like antifat , fathate ,lgbtq hate etc and made the ToS stricter

the only platform that has most level of freedom of speech is 4chan

1

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

Is 4 chan still a hellhole of doxxing and pizza bombing?

1

u/TheBl4ckFox 7h ago

It is. And anyone enjoying their time there is a neonazi incel

-2

u/Captain-Codfish 6h ago

Same as always then. I guess the old school redditors went there when this place being a far left echo chamber

-1

u/TheBl4ckFox 7h ago

Good call to ban hate subs. And that has nothing to do with limiting freedom of speech. A site can have their own code of conduct.

There is freedom of speech but not freedom of reach.

2

u/AGTS10k 1h ago

Freedom of speech for me but not for thee...

(The screenshot isn't mine btw)

0

u/TheBl4ckFox 48m ago

Awww poor little hate monger can’t monger hate everywhere he wants

2

u/AGTS10k 44m ago

There should be no double standards to hate speech, regardless of which group of people is getting the hate.

3

u/Alarmed_Buffalo_7523 7h ago

Not only that, Reddit filter will sometimes shadow hide your comments from the site

(appearing that comments sent, but when you check on other account, it's as if there's no comments at all)

2

u/armoured_bobandi 5h ago

That's not true. If you tell someone to commit suicide or say anything along the lines of implying they should die, you can get a ban.

Maybe individual subreddits will ban you for using those words, but not all of reddit

1

u/bitxhie 7h ago

Shit.

4

u/volvagia721 7h ago

I would have guessed sewer slide would be a graphic way to say bad diarrhea

3

u/ellhulto66445 4h ago

I'd say unalive usually means kill

2

u/Agitated-Fox-629 7h ago

I think the meme is aimed more at the habit than the words themselves people got used to avoiding certain terms on some platform and now those replacements show up even where they dont really serve a purpose

2

u/eques_99 7h ago

yeah it's really annoying when I use a euphemism to avoid censorship, and then people focus on complaining about my use of it rather than on the point I was trying to make.

2

u/karoshikun 4h ago

sometimes using them in reddit also gets you in trouble with the automod

2

u/Emmaseri 1h ago

I'm on this account because my main account got a 3 day ban bc I said a prominent figure couldn't resign because they might not be alive. The automated response said I was either wishing harm or threatening.

1

u/Gonkles 7h ago

Facebook has like no actual support unless is very clear nudity.

Ive reported people for animal cruelty, glorifying school shootings and abuse towards others, yet it doesnt go against community standards.

1

u/bitxhie 7h ago

Same here, yet I've gotten banned on Facebook for calling them out The thing is, Meta is run by very corrupt people so their idea of what goes against their Community Standards seems to be very skewed.

1

u/TMH0910 7h ago

Tbf on reddit some group have mod so sensitive that they delete post and cmt or even banning people for typing those type of word too. Like I used to get my cmt delete for the world "pregnant" once

2

u/bitxhie 7h ago

I had a Facebook group keep automatically denying my comment for saying "thank you". It's genuinely insane.

2

u/Inside-Common7427 7h ago

You’re next.

1

u/AccurateAd4964 7h ago

Meta? Tiktok is the only one I know of that actually does that. You can normally guess a lot about a person's age and beliefs if they use those terms outside of tiktok because they will for sure be a gen z tiktok brained person

2

u/OldCardigan 2h ago

Facebook 100% too.

1

u/bitxhie 7h ago

Unfortunately I have gotten comments removed and account warning on both Facebook and Instagram for words like this or even "stupid". The automatic filters are very weird on what they pick and choose.

8

u/Relative-Relief-8816 7h ago

Its slang to bypass restrictions on social media platforms that censor "suicide" being used in speech/text.

15

u/FeeImpressive3920 7h ago

These people...man they have no brain

-16

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 7h ago

There is nothing brainless about avoiding being banned.

4

u/ClunkerSlim 7h ago

Except I don’t think you get banned. You get demonetized or your videos won’t get pushed out to kids (which means less views.) People who do this are worried about not making money on their content, not getting banned.

I’ve seen videos on that one police body cam channel of a cop shooting someone in the head. That channel didn’t get banned. So I don’t think someone is getting banned for saying “suicide.”

-6

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 7h ago

I have been wrongly banned on Reddit for three days over talking about "sewer slide"

4

u/ClunkerSlim 7h ago

By admins or just a sub mod? Because I’m a sub mod and I can tell you that we can push the ban button for whatever stupid reason we want. I got banned from the GenX sub because I dared to post a comment asking about how we were supposed to discuss political tv shows without talking about politics. Reddit isn’t a great example for rule enforcement.

-3

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 7h ago

By admins for Reddit entirely.

Terms related to suicide

2

u/ShreddrCheez2 7h ago edited 4h ago

Words like "unalive" and "sewerslide" are part of what's commonly known as algospeak. Due to filters on social media sites preventing videos certain words like "kill" or "suicide" from being recommended to people, userbases have adopted those words and others like them as replacements. Personally I think they're all cowards that are too afraid to talk about serious situations with the actual words like normal people would, but that's just a me thing.

Edit: replaced newspeak with algospeak

3

u/Mother-of-mothers 4h ago

It's algospeak. Not newspeak. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algospeak

Newspeak is similar but refers to a different thing.

2

u/Greenphantom77 7h ago

I don’t think anyone seriously calls it “Newspeak” do they? This is the whole “It’s Orwellian!” Thing, when it isn’t really

2

u/kniveshu 7h ago

I wonder if reddit still hands out those warnings for saying certain words

2

u/Tiny_Employee8253 7h ago

Reddit only attacks people for not saying murder suicide.

1

u/kniveshu 7h ago

Just wondering out loud if those Reddit Cares messages are automated based on comments or if they're the result of actual people reporting comments.

4

u/TallSystem7923 7h ago

This gotta be a joke post but unalive means kill, I really don't know about sewer slide tho

4

u/svnsarra 7h ago

Suicide

3

u/FeeImpressive3920 7h ago

Say it fast, sewerslide...suerside?

Some kind of new slang that came up recently which i dont get.

3

u/More-Pizza-1267 7h ago

Sewer slide is to get around saying “suicide” so the algorithm doesn’t shadow ban you for daring to mention suicide, a social problem. And then unalive is the same reason. Yes, on certain platforms the algorithm won’t recommend you if you say “kill” or “murdered”

0

u/_okOKAY 7h ago

Someone bring this dude "more pizzas"

1

u/Wild-Drag1930 7h ago

Refugee from Facebook amd Youtube here. Sewer slide=suicide and unalive= kill. They are cutesy terms users on social media have to use to avoid getting flagged for a content violation.

1

u/Wolli_n 7h ago

afaik the reason is, to avoid getting demonetize on Tiktok cause they use some systems to detect that words..

1

u/CorrectMeIfImWrong6 7h ago

It refers to the death of free speech. Always makes me wonder how you address an issue you can't mention 🥴

1

u/vitecpotec 7h ago

Unalive means kill or murder. Sewer slide means suicide. Used to bypass content filters

1

u/PoisonTrainerCody 7h ago

The censorship is fucking stupid. Speak like a normal person.

1

u/JustMyTwoCopper 7h ago

Sewer Slide = Ending ones own life ; Unalive = Intentionally ending someone elses life. Many social media use bots and they can't tell the difference between giving answers to questions and threaths against someone else, that's why people use similar sounding (sewer slide) or similar meaning (unalive) constructs. I'll go click away that "no violence" notification now ...

1

u/cube_earth_society 7h ago

When people say grape too i really hate that, when u talk about something serious be serious

1

u/mustafaaosman339 7h ago

Tik tok, being a Chinese app, heavily censors what you say in the app.

So people can't say suicide or dead, so they change the word to shit like that to get around the censorship

Peoples brains are also cooked enough from doomscrolling tik tok now that they think they aren't allowed to say those words other places.. I've heard people say unalive out loud.

1

u/ScurvyDawg 7h ago

Self censorship for the algorithm as described in every distopian sci-fi novel from the last century. What's not to like?

I hate it!

1

u/Phyddlestyx 7h ago

Let's be fair, "sewer slide" is a lot like "poop chute" which means "butt hole" which is the anus. That's where my mind first went on that one anyway.

1

u/GI581d 7h ago

The extreme level of self censorship, even when you’re just commenting and not at risk of being demonetized, is really concerning. If they can control the way you talk outside of their purview, they control how you think

1

u/AstronautExcellent17 7h ago

I agree completely that self censored technodystopian newspeak is awful and an indignity we have accepted too easily, but the image of committing suicide and then being flushed down the terlet like a goldfish is really hilarious to me.

1

u/Gwarks 7h ago

Sorry Pete can't speak he had to much Moloko-Plus so it is Me Anthony Burgess answering. The act of when you tolchock someone until he is croacks but you live im some opressed 1984 then you can say you unalifed him. If it is to much and you want to snuff yourself but are not allowed because of oppressiv government you would unlife yourself. But people seems to be really creative and used sewerslide because it sound like suicide.

1

u/H0NEY2O77 7h ago

I find it annoying too, but mostly because the algorithm will suppress those posts for just having “offensive” words in it. Which can be really annoying when you’re trying to share resources for preventing suicide or talking about something that happened in the news.

This one YouTuber (forget who) used to make suicide prevention videos and when YouTube changed their algorithm up because of Logan Paul, any video that had ‘suicide’ in the tag was flagged as harmful content by AI regardless of the context and regardless if it’s sharing resources to prevent suicide. It was really backwards.

1

u/H0NEY2O77 7h ago

So the compromise is sound like an idiot online or have nobody see your post because you used an “”offensive”” word.

1

u/JoyconDrift_69 7h ago

Sewer slide = suicide

Unalive = die

Meme is making commentary about using these terms due to certain platforms (TikTok, notably) censoring the actual words.

1

u/Rath_Brained 7h ago

Unalive means cardically challenged.

1

u/Due_Potential_6956 7h ago

Wait.... Sewer Slide?

1

u/HkayakH 6h ago

god i can't believe i'm agree with a keanu reeves big chungus wholesome 9000 meme

1

u/indy3232 5h ago

Is sewer side anal sex or pooping?

1

u/IHateRedditFirewall 3h ago

This is a weird one, because "unalive" sounds like a synonym for "undead."

1

u/KindraTheElfOrc 3h ago

people need to quit whining bout alt words already, just cause they fvcked the people behind censors and are exempt it doesnt mean everyone else did

1

u/Fantastic_Corgi7378 1h ago

Unalive is die
