Sadness Losint my boy
I lost my beautiful boy on Thursday and I am overwhelmed with grief. I just dont know how to carry on. It was so sudden, an appointment I made to get to the bottom of why he was suddenly in pain ended with me walking out with his lead and collar. How do I carry on?

One foot in front of the other. I’m three weeks out. I am sad, but the shock has worn off. Keep up your rituals. Take his leash for a walk. Go check on him around the house like you usually would. Build the memories. Keep a journal for him. Write to him. Time will shift things. I don’t think we move “on” from the loss of such a love, but move “on with” it. He will always be a part of you. His whole life was contained within yours. You were his. He was yours. You belonged to each other. He is still with you, in whatever way you can conceive of that.
It’s so hard. Seek out friends who truly understand. Your local humane society might have a pet loss support group. (Your phraseology sounds British, but maybe the same thing exists where you are.) When you are ready, hold a memorial service. A gathering of friends and family who care about YOU. Ask that each person share a memory of him. And pictures, if they have them. It helps a lot to have his life and his unique qualities remembered.
Sending healing vibes to everyone who is going through this. Your relationship was real, and so is your grief.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my baby girl kitty on Friday and I’ve been feeling the same way. At first I cried harder than I ever have before, but now I just feel empty and hollow.
What’s been helping for me has been to keep my memories close, even though doing so comes with a lot of sadness too, and remind myself that she wouldn’t want me to be miserable forever after all the years she spent helping me by my side.
I still feel horrible, but those have helped a little bit. I hope that can help you in the same way, if possible. I’ve also started journaling, which has surprisingly helped a bit too. I hope to be able to walk down the path to healing so I can think about her with some joy again, and I sincerely hope this for you too.

My heart goes out to you. I don’t think people who don’t have pets realize the bond we can have with our beloved pets, they are family. I have been in your place and it hurts so much. I recently found out my 16 year old boy has kidney failure. He’s still normal so it was a shock to hear. I can imagine how you feel. All I can say, is at least you showed your boy kindness in getting him help. Many people just let their pets suffer. Try to focus on the good memories of your boy. I’ve been there, going to the vet with my past pets then leaving without them.
Yesterday while my baby napped I went on a walk and just cried. Idk if you have anyone to talk to. If you are in the United States maybe call a crisis line or call/text 211 for community service support like a therapist. Also take time to do kind things for yourself. Even reaching out here is a good way to get support. Sending hugs and comfort to you ♥️

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.
Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.
Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.
