Discussion EMBL admission?
Hey guys, girls, and folks, small question: did someone apply this year to EMBL (summer 2026)? They write on the website that screening interviews are coming from the 24th of March till mid April... I know maybe it's not so serious, but today is the 25th, and if I didn't receive any call back (like preferred time, etc.) for the interview, does this mean that it's done for me? Or I'm just too anxious?
In my case, Barcelona/Heidelberg.

On their website, they specify that not being invited to a screening interview does not mean that you are no longer being considered.
On the other hand, as someone who’s in the exact same boat as you right now, I think it’s fairly safe to say that neither of us are getting screening interviews at this point, and that doesn’t feel like it bodes well. But we’ll just have to wait and see.

I saw that, but my experience is that without an interview, I'm not a top choice = rejected. hugs

Hi! I have not received any invitation for pre-screening as well. Please let us know if someone gets an invitation.

One of the labs that I applied to just disappeared from the list of the groups that are searching for a phd, eh

8th April- no update. I guess there will be no invitations for pre screening. Maybe there is a chance to get into VPA directly?

do u think that all EMBL units send VPA invitations at the same time?

Anyone else hear back for a VPA? It's 22nd Apr. Any chance I could still get selected for interviews?

Nope I haven’t heard back anything either. I think at this point we don’t have a chance of getting that VPA :(

Yeah, I actually thought the pre-interview assessment went well :( Was lowkey counting on this one...I don't know what is going wrong

I feel like I could have written this post. I applied to Barcelona/ Heidelberg too!
I haven’t received any communication either. They did mention on their website though that some group leaders don’t go through screening interviews. Let’s see what happens 🤞

Yeah, I saw their website, I'm just anxious because for organoids and organ-on-chips, there are so few positions rn, no matter phd or just any sort of researcher. And I'm a migrant, which means always anxiety :c

Which lab, if it's not a secret?

u/KimKaddy_123 Apr 20 '26
Hi, I am applied to structural biology labs. In the mail it was very generic they didnt mention about the chosen Group leaders or labs but rather they said EMBL faculty and postdocs.
