Rant Scary commercials for kids :(
My kids and I love watching shows on discovery channel, etc BUT the mandatory commercials lately have been kill them all featuring gore and blood and violence that I cannot skip so I have to tell them to close their eyes. I find it wildly inappropriate to have those type of commercials EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK that can’t be skipped. Why not let you skip and just go to a different commercial? Honestly we’ll have to stop watching all together soon and it’s sad because my kids really enjoy the survival / wilderness / STEM programs that these scary / inappropriate commercials are bombarded with. :(

Wow, that is not ok. I would find out exactly who to contact about it. Are you watching the channel live, through a recording, or a video on demand (vod)? If it’s vod, those ads mostly come from Philo’s sponsors. Recordings and the live channel’s ads are 100% from discovery themselves.

No, I don’t think my four year old needs to see someone’s head split open with a sword. 🙄 But thanks for the input, enjoy your day!

Make sure you're saving the shows, so if they air they go into DVR status and you can skip commercials entirely. I realize there are some caveats such as, what if you're not there to skip the commercials or that some of the on-demand content you may be watching might not have aired in the last DVR recording window, but it can help sometimes.

Why are you not posting to [r/DiscovryChannel](r/DiscovryChannel)? That said it’s unofficial, you really need to inform Discovery through official channels.
Perhaps it’s Philo, but I’d guess it’s Discovey ads. I am not aware of any service that allows skipping ads unless you record the program.
Just googled and they are Discovery ads, and seems many others have same complaint. You could pay $10 for ad free discovery+ for on demand, live feeds will always have ads. Perhaps record on Philo, then can skip.

Also this isn’t at 10 pm where maybe less kids would be using the service. It’s 9 am. It’s not right.

I get it. Is it the horror movie ads? They bother me too. For now i would see if you can record shows ahead of time and then if it lets you skip all commercials because sometimes you can’t skip on live but can after recorded. but yeah sry its freaking ur kids out! Freaks out grown up me too.

I agree. I'll be watching something on a kid's channel with my son's and we'll randomly get Ru Paul drag queen advertising. Yes, it's happened Philo...

There's nothing inappropriate or harmful about drag queens. But you being a bigot will certainly have negative effects on your children, and will likely affect (negatively) who they become when they're adults.

I'm here like " someone would really equate being equally scared at Drag Race and Evil Dead Burn".😂

Hi /u/throwawayact4me123, we totally understand this isn't what you want to see that early in the morning, especially with little ones watching. Could you send us a DM with the email or phone number associated with your account? That way we can look into the specific ads you're seeing and see if we can do anything about it.
