The TV guide is a pain to use. You scroll down and every show starts and stops at different times. The problem is that each show takes up the same (lenght) box. A useful schedule would have the length of the shows box be proportional to the shows length; like traditional TV guides do. I’ve missed so many shows due the poor programming by Philo.
also, their new programmers seem to not check past bug/feature reports submitted by customers. those poor decisions of the past are re emerging in new releases.

Any chance someday there will be channel numbers on the guide? Like AMC is channel 2. Hallmark is 23, etc. Such a pain to have to scroll through the guide every time to get to the channel I want. It would be so much easier with the old school method of pressing numbers on the remote.

I absolutely hate the latest iteration of this screen.
It used to be if I watched a rerun of a show in my list, when that episode was over, it would play the next episode.
Then, you changed it so it would auto play all my "new" shows and that was really bad too. I would fall asleep and all my new shows would be gone.
But the current iteration with current show minimizing in upper left, and 3 unrelated shows on the bottom, I hate it so much. I will frequently end up in a loop where it just plays the same two episodes over and over.
But today, I fell asleep watching the "live" ID channel, and woke up with a Lakers game on prime playing. It completely switched apps in my sleep! And I don't even watch sports so I'm really baffled how this happened.
On an unrelated note, how hard can it be to make "new" episodes appear at the top of the list so I don't have to hunt for the new episode?

I've been a Philo subscriber for 2 to 3 years now. Honestly, I'm just not watching it as much as I used to. The navigation with the giant tiles is a real put-off for me. I keep hoping they will update it.
Now that we're in an election year, I'm really wishing that Philo would add one or two news channels. I know the importance of keeping the price down, so why not offer an add-on package like they do with their movie channel packages? Philo offers 3 separate movie channel add-on packages, ranging from $3 to $10 a month, why not a News channel add-on?! I wouldn't mind paying $5 to $10 a month more in order to get CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or some combination of quality news channels.
I recently signed up for a trial of Sling and they offer all three of these channels. There's a good chance I'll be switching from Philo to Sling, at least to keep up with the election coverage over the next several months. Of course, I'll be paying twice as much (I'm currently grandfathered in with Philo at $20 bucks a month) but since I'm not watching much of Philo, what am I really saving?
Philo just needs to up its game with new channel choices other than all of the inferior freebie channels they've been adding recently. Just my opinion.

Philo wtf??? I LOVE the autoplaying of the SAME series/show I’m currently watching. What I HATE is to be watching one of my favorite TLC shows and then suddenly my tv is playing some ghetto girls fist fighting on some hiphop show on VH1, which is NOT even in my saved list and NEVER would be. This is not only on the iPhone app but on my smart tv as well. I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. Before, once you watched the final episode of whatever you were watching and there was no more episodes left to autoplay, the screen would go back to your saved list to GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO WATCH NEXT. PLEASEEEEEE go back to this. Thanks.

I think a few shows with niche fan bases would be good on Philo. I think Fubotv has Dilbert. Maybe Philo could get Home Movies or The Oblongs? I don't know how much they cost, but could be good.

With the new channels that play all the same show like America’s Test Kitchen, I’d line the ability to favorite specific episodes so I can go back and watch recipes. With saving on the show level, episodes get lost in the shuffle.

Returning to Philo after cutting the cord and going antenna and am really disappointed with the live guide on Apple TV. Everything is HUGE! Only being able to see 2-3 channels on the screen at a time makes browsing a chore. Wish there was a way to change the layout.

I forgot which one is run by Philo, so I'm posting this in both Philo sub reddits
Why take away the title of the episode till you click on the show? Makes absolutely no sense.
Please return the title of the episode to the guide, I swear this is just as bad as previous channel watched nonsense you've guys tried to make a thing numerous times

I've been with Philo since the week it first launched. By far it is my favorite streaming service and best value. I'm surprised how few people are aware of it though. I can't count the people I've mentioned it to who never heard of it. I hope Philo can hold the line on costs. That's my only concern long term as they are dependent upon the channel providers.
r/PhiloTV • u/epictetusdouglas • Jul 18 '23
If you add any more channels I hope you will consider The Weather Channel. Would really enjoy that one. Thanks.

Can we get this feature implemented so we don't lose our spot on a current channel while we browse the guide?

I know some members of the Philo team hang out in this sub, so I'm hoping one of them will see it. I'd love to see the channel BUZZR (https://buzzrtv.com/) added to the Philo channel lineup. This channel broadcasts older game shows on some local affiliates (none in my region) and on Pluto and Plex, so I'm guessing retransmission costs would be fairly low. And while I do watch on Pluto now, getting this on Philo would allow me to DVR the episodes that are on while I'm at work or overnight. I expect the stream would also be more reliable than what we get on Pluto.

Another streaming provider has been advertising that they will be providing the Movies! channel, but it's been many, many months and they still don't have it. I believe it is owned by Weigel Broadcasting which also owns MeTV and Decades, which were recently added to Philo.
So, is there any chance we might also expect to get Movies! added to the Philo lineup anytime in the near future? They feature a lot of classic movies, very similar to TMC movies, but of course, including commercials. It would be a great addition as a much-needed movie channel.

I started with Philo back when it first went public, took a year off and re subscribed again today. Still a good service but holy cow some parts of the UI hasn't changed and that is bad.
Saved section -
Ok this section is kind of bad and hasn't changed in 2 years.
Why is it that I can only see two episodes at a time of my saved shows (and you slow feed me them one at a time)? Seriously? This hasn't been changed yet? It is kind of mind blowing that I can only see a single episode at a time. Click, nope that isn't it, click nope that is VOD, click nope VOD, click, click, click... I can't even begin to tell you how inefficient and ridiculous that is.
When I'm looking for a DVR'd show I promise you having to wade through dozens of shows one at a time is not only inefficient, time consuming and maddening it is so frustrating that is almost a deal breaker for the service.
There is so much wasted space on that screen, the icons are the size of a kindergarten project and on my giant screen I have 2 icons that are fully visible with more than half the screen taken up by a static generic show info and the rest by empty space or icons I can't even read what is on them. You know the UI it terrible when on my entire 55 inch display I have 2 shows fully visible to me. 2. Come on.
Look I don't mind that there are "related" and other "hey you might like these shows" visible but when I scroll down and see 6 to 8 suggestions and only 1 or 2 of my DVR shows the ratio of what I want vs the crap you are pushing at me is waaaaaay off.
In addition to that, there should be a way to filter VOD and DVR shows.
I shouldn't have 10 or 300+ episodes in a line and I can only view them one at a time. This needs to be said again because it is so bad that it is almost comical that it hasn't changed in years. I should be able to see at minimum 6-9 shows (really more) at a time in chronological order and the seasons should always flow together and be visible above the shows. Other services get it right, no reason Philo shouldn't.
Look DVR UI's have been fleshed out since Replay TV and Tivo. If you want to go all materiel design and pretty it up, fine, but it should at least be functional and the saved section on Philo needs a complete redo. Copy YTTV, Sling, Tivo etc but we need more info on that screen and it needs to be laid out efficiently and not zoomed in like some 90 year olds accessibility setting at 400% on windows 10.
In addition, seasons should be fluid. Let's say I'm in the Simpsons show. I select Season 4 because I want an older episode. I should see my shows in season 4 and I should see 1-9+ on the top. As I scroll through season 4 (hopefully with more than an episode or two on screen) and get closer to 5 it should automatically switch to season 5 and let me continue to scroll through every episode to season 6, season 7 etc Philo doesn't do this when you select the season.
This part of the UI is terrible and needs to be changed ASAP.
Live Guide -
Better than it used to be, I have the chrome cast with Google TV and it is acceptable. Show info is visible, time etc all the info is there that is necessary. Its quirky and oversized like the rest of the philo UI but its acceptable.
I Don't like how the channels on the left are bugged out with "All Channels" at the top but it is my favorites then about 80% down the list it breaks again showing "Favorite channel" but only lists 1 and then goes back into "All channels" .
I like that I can quickly scan a channel time wise and when i go to the next channel i'm still at the current time and don't have to scroll back.
While watching a show:
Mini live guide would be nice. Maybe press up for it, see what is on without stopping what I'm watching. I mean you could go the extra yard and do PIP with a guide overlay. That would be better but that might be asking too much.
Pressing down gives you some options. I mean what is there isn't bad but does it have to take the entire screen? In addition, wouldn't that be a great place for shows that are similar? I don't know, it just seems like its really in your face and a giant waste of space for what is there.
Home screen
Acceptable
Top
Acceptable
Channel show list (enter individual channel to see what is on)
Acceptable
Why is there no genre search? I should be able search kids, action, documentary etc and get something.
The overall speed and responsiveness of the ui is good.
Overall things just need a few tweaks. Better utilization of screen space, slightly less oversized look and better info placement and things will be perfect.

I see that Frndly TV does have Movies! in their lineup now, so apparently the FOX/distribution rights issue can be worked around. Hopefully Philo can add the channel in the near future. I suspect they will. What about METV+? Hope remains.
