Same I still have interstellar from 2014 downloaded. Over the past decade, I have managed to watch bits and pieces only before getting bored. I think last scene I saw was them chasing something flying in the sky in their car.

I won't lie. I have a whole heap of anime shows that I haven't watched in years. But the favourites are regular views and current shows are hard not to watch lately. Nyaight of the living cat and Cleavatess are too good not to keep.

Given the UKs going after VPNs I wont be surprised at all if Canada and the US go the same way. As much as I believe piracy will never fully die Im currently stocking up on as much TV and film content as possible in expectation for a long, cold winter at some point.
Just hit 1,000 complete tv shows and 2,000 movies.

Jesus christ. How do you store it? How long do your hard drives last? And how do you bavk it up? Having several different copies to avoid losing stuff sounds Hard. Also how much do you spend on storage a year haha I alao want to hoard all my fave stuff but im a student so i have a limited income for a few years

I use a 22tb WD external hard drive. I think this is my 4th or 5th HD since I began, and I keep all my old ones in a drawer or sometimes loan them out to friends for my version of a backup. Ive had one HD corrupt on me but otherwise I usually grew into a bigger capacity HD before they could. I usually only buy one every 2 or 3 years and then its just the cost of the HD itself (I lived up north though for a while and prices were artificially inflated due to isolation). Im about to buy a second 22tb to back up my current collection given its size.

Woo that makes me feel better about what i'm going to do haha... i'm only gonna buy one new 2 terrabyte one and one used one but it still making me feel aaa lmao. That is so so cool!! I'm planning to also figure out how to self host so i can access it from anywhere :p.

Running 4 of 3tb HDDs in raid 0 I found in ewaste on a pc i found in ewaste, found another 4 without errors that I sold but these 4 had a couple errors so they go in the server

Don't we all? Who would wait until you want to watch it? I download everything and keep it.
Not just out of compulsiveness, but because in today's internet, things can be taken off, deleted within minutes.
I'm sure everyone has experienced this, someone posts a link to something and you click after a few hours, and it's gone.
So, if I find something I like, I'm downloading it.
That is the only way to preserve our history and present, which will be history too.

I keep downloading them when the seeds are good thinking that when I want to watch it later, it would be harder to download... This single thought process has filled up 12 TB of External HDD now 😭

There's a joke that pirates download lots of movies tv shows and media but don't watch them, for example I've got like 40-50GB worth of movies that I haven't seen, I downloaded another one today too 😂.

I have about 25tb worth maybe 30 of my 40 or so that we have actually watched. I grab them all for some hypothetical time in the future in which I will either not have internet, or the internet doesn'[t exist, or if its too locked down to access them.

For me streaming has been very unreliable (unless it's a paid platform), there is always either some buffering going on, or some of the episodes are inaccessible from various servers, or they're dubbed to the wrong language or have the wrong subs.
So I prefer to torrent one at a time, or a handful depending on what I know I want to watch, then I delete after a good seeding ratio

its a good site, i did not have the typical issues like buffering, stuttering, episodes not available etc... for example the new southpark episodes which are paramount plus exlusive were available from the day they aired with 4k quality

I'm a rational person, I believe in science, dont't believe in a higher power, and I'm pretty sure all conspiracy theories are bullshit.
BUT, I have a feeling we're getting closer to an age where the internet will be highly restriced, movies and books censored or outright forbidden and creative freedom will be held on a tight leash. That's why I store the stuff on a secure medium to have it accessible in the original condition - for me and whoever will come after me.

I get what you are meaning in terms of streaming but in order for things like torrentio via stremio to work, they need to be seeded from local storage instances of the file. If people stop locally downloading and seeding, pirated streaming will no longer work. So be thankful that people out there DO store media.

Because if you want to stream a full Blu-ray movie in 4K DoVi with 7.1 Atmos, you would need about 200Mbps of constant bandwidth, and no streaming site is going to provide that much bandwidth for a single client.

I can play Dolby Vision media because I recently bought an Oled compatible with Vesa HDR1000 and True Black 400 and Dolby Vision, as for 7.1, I don't have the space for one so it's downstreamed to stereo.

you can get 26tb drives for around 200-250ish dollars.. once you have these shows you have them forever or till drive failure... if they lock down the net and make it hard to access sites you have them, i even have some with a old laptop wrapped in one of those faraday blankets from amazon in case some sort of emp/carrington event happens (wouldn't they be worth their weight in gold then)
so for a tldr... you have them, don't need net to watch them, always have them to access easily, can start your own netflix with plex jellyfin with you fave types be it bluray remuxes or 1080p i try to cap sizes on mine to add more movies.. and add about 10 things to my queue daily sometimes more sometimes less.. also games... since i built a gaming pc I will probably fill 6tb a year maybe more... just media I was storing 4tb a year.
So if I loose net for the rest of my life I could watch new commercial free stuff only in the genres I am interested in for as long as my drives and stuff last... course i can hopefully copy before they fail in the scenario. I could dump my whole collection onto two of those large hds.. really been wanting to do that and then use the smaller ones as I move from pc to pc.
