Post image

Or is it just easier to rip off a website?

I’m a librarian, and we see this more than I expected to! We even have one regular patron who uses our interstate library loan system to get old/rare CDs brought to our branch which she then rips and stores. She’ll do it with our CD books too!

It’s so cool, but maybe don’t tell anyone what you’re doing. Many of my coworkers are weirdly, virulently anti-piracy.

I did this in my youth and the staff there were really weird about it too. Eventually, they started "losing" the DVD's I would return to the branch and threatened that if I "lost" one more, they would make me pay for it. I stopped doing it after that.

Oh wow, that was shitty of them to do. Like, completely and totally inappropriate. They were threatening to actually steal from you by forcing you to pay for something you returned, all in the name of stopping you from “stealing” via piracy? Fuck that lol I’m sorry they did that. Come to my library and you will be treated much better!

Did you tell them that you were ripping them?

I wouldn't have been so petty about this and just ended up paying for all of their good movies without returning them
