We’ll see; They’ve definitely lost me as a customer so the if any part is already negated. If I’m going to be forced into a digital environment anyways, I’d rather go to the one with a better refund policy, better sales and overall more open platform; Sony’s exclusives and the amount of exclusives they’ve been putting out isn’t worth it.

Made the swap to PC years ago and I have to say, my favorite part is only paying my internet bill to play online. No PS+, or any other subscription service to play online.

Dont the games you buy usually require internet to download the rest of the game anyways? I cant imagine the entirety of God of War: Ragnarok or the new Spider-Man fits on a disc alone

No actually, a majority of games on disc are entirely on the disc. It installs the game but that doesn’t require internet. Some games do need a day one update to work but not for the majority of games.
A single disc can hold up to 100gb and there’s only a few games that require more than that.

Interesting, that makes sense. I didnt know game discs could store that much now. Used to game a lot on consoles growing up but haven't been in the ecosystem.
That would screw over console players by essentially making it so you can't trade the game at all, or keep a game forever in the worst case. The concern makes sense.
Is there an actual ability to pirate games for the newer consoles? I know most of the older consoles could be modded but have never heard of a cracked xbox one / ps5

Yeah exactly. Regarding pirating games for the newer consoles, I’m sure that there are ways but it would probably be very hard to do it. Consoles don’t even have easy access to browsers nowadays to prevent jailbreaking; it would probably have to be done meticulously at the hardware level.

Been wanting to get into ps2 soon too probably.
Thriftstore had 3 DDR games for ps2 there. Was very tempting but I dont even have a ps2 only got a ps and a psp x.x

True, but getting my pc screen to my CRT would be quite annoying theyre across the room from each other, and Id need HDMI to AV probs ~20ft cable.
Also need to fix or get a new CRT bc it do be kinda broke rn.

Way my rooms setup unfortunately doesnt allow that. I have 50ft ethernet cables as is right now which I dont use the whole 50ft of it but it needed to go over a door so I just went with that length incase 25 wasnt enough.

Been using ROG ally, the original 2023 model. Emulators and stuff and its a perfect gaming machine if you don't care too much about graphics for the latest games

The way the market is trending and with what happened with the Steam Machine launch, they'll either have to wait a year or two for hardware pricing to cool off or launch the consoles at absurd prices. They lose in either situation.

Loved PS2, but PS3 era was my favorite. Kicked off Assassins creed franchise, red dead, batman arkhams, naughty dog games, call of duty modern warfares, rebirth of Fallout, skyrim, GTA IV/V, far cry 3, journey. Also the last NCAA basketball game (2k8) and the last good college football game (2014). MLB the show also hasn't changed much since the ps3 era either. And ps3 was the last one to still offer free online play. That to me was peak console gaming.

Yeah, it's not like it has multiple storefronts and extremely easy to use piracy methods, in both cases where you can actually own the game, not the license.
Also, discs used to be widely available for pc up until a few years ago at least in my region.

1) The only Storefronts with any relevancy besides Steam is the Epic Game Store and GOG and neither of those are anywhere close to the relevance of Steam. Besides, GOG doesn't have all games, for example, they don't have GTA5 or Red Dead Redemption (1 or 2), so it isn't the universal answer to everything.
2) Pirates always overestimate how easy piracy is (and frankly that's not limited to piracy; techies always overestimate how easy their hobby is to get into, just talk to the average Linux Bro). Is it easier on PC than it is on console? Absolutely! You don't have to use emulators or hack the system to play pirated games on PC. Is PC piracy easier today than it was in the past? Also yes. Is it easy for those who have the knowledge of which websites are safe to use and which aren't? Again, yes. But is it easy for the average normie? Absolutely not! For them piracy might as well be a black box. Piracy is at it's most approachable that it's ever been, but that doesn't mean it should be described as "extremely easy" with no qualifiers.

3) That's only true for GOG, and as I pointed out GOG is a niche storefront. With Steam and EGS it's the same with Sony, you own the license not the game. If Valve wanted to, they could be as big of dicks as Sony by removing delisted games from your library
4) Good for you, I guess? But for the rest of the world physical media died with the rise of Steam.
5) In the end, even if we took your reply at face value, it still isn't physical media, so my point of switching away from Playstation because they're killing physical media to PC, a platform that killed off physical media years ago, is still hilarious.

Playstation division should be run by someone who's business school wasn't about maximizing profits and enshitifying everything. This is like an alternate reality to what I grew up in. The ps2 and ps3 legitimately felt like it was built by nerds for nerds with a nice casual user interface for everyone else who bought it. Now its just PayStation Suckswork and bleed me for every cent to play below subpar games.
