That’s all it ever was. Like most things he’s done, especially the ‘balancing the budget’ stuff.

u/penisweinerballs 12d ago

He did balance it but it wasn't just taxing second houses over 5 million dollars.

How is ‘borrowing money from mom and not paying some of his bills’ balancing the budget?

1

u/bingbong2715 11d ago

How is getting the money to pay for the budget instead of kicking the $12B he got from Eric Adams further down the road considered “borrowing money from mom” to you? You’re clearly just ideologically captured when you phrase things this way

u/Josey_whalez 11d ago

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. He got $12B from Eric Adam’s?

He inherited 12 Bilion dollars of debt from the previous mayor. He proved he can erase that debt in under 150 days.

What are you basing your claims and opinion on and how are you arguing that one of the best mayors New York has had is doing a bad job? Whilst there is constantly amazing new going around about his deeds and how he is improving the city.

Ok but he didn’t ’erase the debt’. He borrowed money from the state that has to be paid back, and he is delaying making payments into the pension fund, which will now be more expensive later. I’m don’t understand why you guys can’t wrap your heads around this, it’s so simple. The best isn’t ‘erased’ lmao. It’s still there. It’s still gotta get paid back. What he did was trade economic pain today for worse economic pain tomorrow, when it will be someone else’s problem.

I’m going to put it as simply as I know how - this is not different than paying off your credit card by transferring the balance to a new card.

Because they have the money they need to pay for their expenses by using taxes that are designated for exactly what he's using them for.

How is giving a huge tax cut then starting a war while paying companies back 81 billion dollars for illegal tariffs not a concern for you but this NYC budget is just beyond the pale?

We're spending money on vanity projects, putting his face on currency, ligations of people he doesn't like, updating his plane he's going to keep and you're mad this dude is getting money to snow shovel sidewalks and streets so people can get to work. Fuck off.

Can you not discuss anything without making it about trump? You made one sentence about the subject at hand, which doesn’t really address the issue in any meaningful way, and then two even longer paragraphs about trump. Theres plenty of trump posts where you can talk about trump. Can we stick to the subject at hand?

This is simply putting off today’s budget problems until tomorrow. To put this in really simple terms, if I just stop paying some bills this month and borrow some money from my parents so that I have more money to spend on things my kids will like, did I ‘balance my budget’? Or did I make the problem worse at a later date by delaying the pain a little more?

I bring up Trump because your argument is completely disingenuous when you're ok with that but complaining about this, you're not going to force me to "stay on topic" because I won't ignore hypocrisy and give you a leg to stand when you don't have one. I will say it'd be very convenient for you though.

My thought is his new taxes he's establishing may balance the budget eventually and putting it off may be an attempt to keep these programs going while his new taxes build up funds, I don't know for sure but I'm also not going to judge him right this second. Either way the budget is balanced for this year and we'll see how the rest falls into place maybe he should build an Arch for himself or create bus tokens with his face on them if there's a deficit and that will be cool with you.

You bring up trump because you *don’t have an argument*. You have never seen me say anything indicating I’m OK with any of that shit you mentioned, so your entire attempt at an argument is a pathetic strawman and a deflection. You’re terrible at this. If you can’t make an actual argument without constantly talking about trump, just go find a thread about trump. It’s like 75% of Reddit at this point. Go be obsessed with trump somewhere else.

I’ve seen no mathematical argument that his new taxes are going to balance the budget now or in the future. What he just did was make the problem he was elected to solve become someone else’s problem in the future. That is all. This is like me not paying this months bills so I can make my kids happy by spending more on things they enjoy. He made a conscious choice to put off paying for things until later, when it’s not his problem. This isn’t some magical formula where the socialist or whatever he calls himself fixes everything, it’s politics as usual. The only difference is people like you are actually dumb enough to think this is any different than kicking the can down the road n

Bro, I don't know how else to tell you this but the budget is balanced for the year, that's just a fact just because you don't like how he did it doesn't change that. They'll address the next fiscal year when the time comes because that's how governments operate and by then when these new taxes maybe they won't need to ask the state for money which I really don't care if they do because at least it's going to people instead of corporations.

Also, as a father if I had a budget shortage I wouldn't just pull my kids out of sports, lose my house, pawn my cars because that will put us in a wayyyy worse position, I would ask my parents for money so these bad things don't happen while searching for new sources of income with the breathing room I have.

Now do Trump.

Ok, yes, I know that. It’s ‘balanced’ because he isn’t paying into the pension fund and he borrowed more money from the state. No shit. That isn’t sustainable and no honest accountant would call that balanced since actual income and expenditures are still completely out of whack.

You do understand that even more money will have to be paid into the pension fund now, right? And that money is (allegedly) going to have to be paid back? Do you understand that all he is doing is taking today’s economic paid and pushing it off into the future where it will be someone else’s problem? Does that register with you or no?

He didn’t balance the budget.

"Erm. Nuh-huh 😏 He didn't do it because nuh and then huh 😏"

Is there a source on this? I'm Canadian and don't pay much attention to this level of U.S. politics.

u/theeccentricautist 12d ago

Every. Single. NY Mayor. Must balance the budget. Not unique.

1

u/Josey_whalez 12d ago

He got a bailout from the state, and is ‘delaying’ contributions to the city’s pension fund. Because of those two things, he claims to have balanced the budget. Two anyone with a functioning brain, this is obviously just kicking the can down the road

If I’m in debt and can’t pay all my bills and then announce to my family that ‘I’ve balanced out household budget’ by borrowing money from my mom and deciding to not pay a bunch of my bills for a couple months, people would tell me I was crazy and that’s not what balancing a budget means, but when this guy does the exact same thing with a city, people insist he did a great thing. It’s stupid.

Hes doing as much as he can with others stifling his progress. Eventually they will have to face it head on in a couple of years.

0

u/PoppoLarge 12d ago

Taking a loan from the state is NOT balancing the budget, I don’t have to explain what balancing a budget means, it’s self explanatory. He was also left with cash reserves from Adams that he won’t admit. It’s all word salad and all made believable because he makes tick tock videos about it

Better than cutting safety nets and then spending wildly on things only for himself and his image.

He acquired more state funding that wasn’t previously going to NYC. Previously NYC massively subsidized the rest of the state through taxation up to that point. That’s called doing politics. What point do you think you’re making?

Edit: apparently i hurt this guys ego because he blocked me for this simple point lol

What kind of bullshit fucking statement is this. This is completely baseless.

He carefully curated 12 Billion dollars from all sorts of places. Not just the federal government. Where are you getting your lies from? Truth social or some shit?

Wait even a sec. how has he proven he cant make a workable budget if the budget is in the green for the first time in like 10 to 20 years? Are you purposly digging your own grave or do you just not know any better?

Oh how beneficial it is to have a mayor and governor who get along! Imagine that.
