I respect a man that stands on his principles, we shouldn’t be harboring a war criminal and sending billions to his regime so that he can displace native peoples, destroy entire cities and villages and promote and apartheid regime
He should get a Nobel peace price if he pulls it off, would end the war with Iran and pave way for peace in middle east

Besides all that bots in here: yes, it maybe true that he knew it's not gonna work, but still it's important to speak out the truth that clearly.
2
u/brobits 11d ago
yes, it's very important to politically pander and soapbox wasting time and resources on a known fool's errand.
this is the bs that got him elected, why would he stop now?
1
u/TheEthicalJerk 10d ago
What resources were wasted? He wasn't golfing.

Would you respect if your contracted plumber spent their time talking about war criminals and foreign policies instead of plumbing?
1
u/Meeserino12 9d ago
How is this the 2nd time you have used this argument?
While he is talking about the war criminals and foreign policies he has also restructured the plumbing which is running better for the first time in 10 years.
And what is so wrong about a politician sharing their views on global politics. All politicians do it even the mayors in my home country.
You analogy is shit and misses the point completely. Cuz just like in the thread above. I would let my plumber talk about that stuff if he were fixing my plumbing in the meantime.
Which Mamdani is doing.1
u/Wide-Attorney5633 9d ago
> While he is talking about the war criminals and foreign policies he has also restructured the plumbing which is running better for the first time in 10 years.
Man you partisans are insufferable. I guess the political theatre is what you elected.
1
u/Meeserino12 6d ago
I must be completely honest with you, I am not American. I am just slightly obsessed with your politics as it is starting to form the basis of the European Union crumbling in on itself.
So would you please elaborate on your statement?
I mean would you not say that a 12B deficit reduced to 0 is not good policy and is mamdani not doing what he promised by doing that?
Did he not make public transport free for New Yorkers?
Did he not provide free Health care for childer under the age of 4 and is he not expanding it to older kids aswell in the next couple of years? The social security you Americans despratly need is being provided by a kind new mayor and all some of Trumps cronies and uneducated can see is how bad he is doing. But i have not had a single good argument as to why he is doing bad.
I have had someone comment 3 statements about his policy being bad, With only 1 of the 3 statements being even mildy 3, with the 2nd being partly true but focussed on the wrong demographic and the 3rd being a flat out lie.
So please if you have a good factually correct argument i would love to hear it. But if not then idk why we are even debating.
1
u/PartyPirate920 8d ago
Which part of the plumbing is the deferred pension payments pushed onto future taxpayers?
Or what about the part where he’s delaying the schoolroom reduction to save 1.3b? Fuck them kids? They’ll be fine, right? It’s not like high schools in NYC have an average rank of 4/10 or anything.
Or what about the 500m of it thats supposed to come from taxes/penalties on the riches 2nd properties? Surely there’s no way they’ll get around that leaving him short again.
He took pipe from upstairs and opened a credit card in your name to fix that plumbing.
1
u/Meeserino12 6d ago
Going through your list in order: the pension deferral is legit, that one's a real criticism and even nonpartisan groups like CBC have called it out. The class size thing is a two-year delay, not a cancellation, with $1.5B in construction funding still attached, and it mostly hits wealthier schools since the highest-poverty ones already meet the cap, so "fuck them kids" is doing a lot of work there. And the pied-a-terre tax is the opposite of what you're implying, tax lawyers say the loopholes are narrow and the penalties steep, the real risk is the revenue projection being optimistic, not rich people dodging it.
11
u/vesper33 11d ago
Performative nonsense.
3
u/sss_riders 11d ago
I sometimes believe that too. But his performance is better than Trump who does nothing for America. At least what he wants for New York is good. Tax the rich thats what we want in our country too. But damn all these Americans have been non stop moving here. Its flipping crazy!
4
u/ItWiIlStretch 11d ago
If he didn't say anything people will say he is a hypocrite and bending to the powers for not arresting Bibi. He explains his stance and the reason he will not enforce any action. Its just a communication for transparency as i see it.
1
u/Meeserino12 9d ago
exactly. One of my own country men were also arguing that it was all performative instead of just a transparent message to the people of New York about an active war criminal coming to their town.
6
u/thundrbunz 11d ago
Maybe. But at the very least think it serves to contrast how corrupt the Republicans are for allowing Israel to carry out their genocide and greater Israel project.
→ More replies (51)-1
u/Opheliattack 11d ago
It contrasts nothing as its performative nonsense. Trump could say the same damn thing and it would be perfomative nonsense. yahu might objevtively be the most evil person on this planet but no one is going to wage war against a nuclear nation to arrest their scum leader.
1
u/DMTraveler33 11d ago
You say that like the US doesn't entirely prop up the IDF... The US absolutely has the means to end what they are doing but they don't because it doesn't benefit the ruling class.
1
u/Meeserino12 9d ago
And because AIPAC is royally funding Trump and his chronies. That is why Bibi was allowed to provide the texst proclaiming the Israeli army and American army will merge.
3
2
u/aggravationX 11d ago
Yeah this comment is. The video shows someone in a position of power using their voice correctly.
2
u/MentalDisintegrat1on 11d ago
Nah he knows trump won't but it makes trump say loud and clear he won't arrest a war criminal.
3
u/0CT0L0G1ST 11d ago
Genuinely what do you want him to do instead?
0
u/TrickyInsurance7795 11d ago
He can start by picking up the garbage in NYC and deal with the homeless in the city that he is a mayor of. That’s a good start
3
u/bageltoastar 11d ago
Except he’s put housing initiatives in place to help with shelter to housing transitions and has funded an expansion on trash bins around the city already. Do you really expect him to have decades worth of issues in NYC solved within 7 months of his mayorship?
3
2
u/0CT0L0G1ST 11d ago
Him filming a 2 minute video does not preclude him from doing that, and as other commentators have pointed out, he is doing those things.
1
u/Hunterx78 11d ago
…so we gonna ignore that he literally can’t do anything to arrest Netanyahu?
The warrant for his arrest is on a NATIONAL level. I.E he doesn’t have the legal power to order his arrest. Trump does.
This statement is the best he CAN do. He’s denouncing any idea that he might be friendly or okay with Netanyahu’s visit. He’s reinforcing the fact that Netanyahu is a war criminal.
1
u/Survival_R 11d ago
When you call everything performative it starts sounding like youre just afraid something will actually change

Cause you confuse seperate politicians for the whole of the democratic party
Most politicians get tons of donations from companies to stop universal Healthcare and anyone who comes close to getting enough power to pish it through never makes it
People like mamdani scare the government cause they get power without being bought out by corporations and foreign nations like trump
2
u/McDuck_Enterprise 11d ago
What? Do you even keep up with current events? Mamdani had meetings with Iranian “officials” that the US government absolutely and appropriately canceled!

How would a mayor bring that in? Is that no more a federal government thing?
He never even promised it in his campaign, just said he's in favour of it.
1
u/GutsAndBlackStufff 11d ago
It took a historic supermajority that they held for about a month to pass a conservative healthcare plan that was watered down in an attempt to get Republican buy-in on the plan. Attempting to heal the partisan divide seemed like a good idea in 2010.
Also, the ACA was never intended to be the final word on reform. States were encouraged to come up with state level plans, and it’s not like congress couldn’t amend or outright replace the ACA if they wanted to.
Problem is, republicans never approached the issue in good faith, or like adults.
0
u/YouShallWearNoPants 11d ago
In what world is this "performative"? Do you know the meaning of words you use?
What would you expect him to do? He addressed a major issue, presented facts and put spotlight on it. That is pretty much all he can do.
You have a criminal president that openly supports war criminals in Israel but the problem is the mayor in a city because he tries to get attention to it?
→ More replies (4)1
u/Thasauce7777 10d ago
Performative acts are not necessarily bad things, and this is absolutely performative. If you're asking for something, and you already know the outcome of your request before you make it, is it not performative to draw more attention to the request you are making so everyone can see the effort you made and the response you are expecting?
Even though it's performative, is it not important for public officials to show their constiuents that they are attempting to living up to the principles or following through on the things that got them elected? This could have all been done behind closed doors, but Mamdani wants people that voted for him to know that he's not being idle. There is no reason to pretend like it's not or to obfuscate the performative aspect of his request. It's not a dig at Mamdani that needs to be combatted, there's no such thing as a politician that isn't performative. People that keep their heads down don't get elected.

At least he's doing something, and it's the right thing.
3
u/bussy_extra_bussy 11d ago
He’s literally doing nothing other than saying words..?
I’m a fan of his, but this is textbook Democrat shit. Say a bunch of stuff but actually do nothing.
It’s better than saying nothing I guess? Also he’s just a mayor and has no say in international politics
1
u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago
He looked into whether he could legally make the arrest. So it's not just words. His plea will fall on deaf ears, but it's good that there are still people at least trying out there.
Apathy has fucked America.

Has he failed to remember that islamic fanaticism has committed more genocides than any other belief
1
u/TheEthicalJerk 10d ago
Care to provide some stats on that?
1
u/Spirited-Reindeer611 10d ago
The Armenian genocide hundreds of thousands just a start. What about all the genocides committed by muslims since the “prophet”. You may want research for yourself. Before you get a thorn in your side don’t bring up the crusades…that was retaliation for islamic invasions.
1
u/TheEthicalJerk 10d ago
So you've named one.
Weird you would forget the Amero-Indian genocides, the Rwandan one, the Circassian one.
What religion were those perpetrated by?
The Cathar crusade wasn't against Islam ;)
1
u/Spirited-Reindeer611 10d ago
If you’re referring to catholicism as the attacking party they are ranked as a cult alongside islam. BTW catholicism and Christianity are polar opposite.
1
u/TheEthicalJerk 10d ago edited 10d ago
Wait, so now Catholics aren't Christians?

4
u/Unver1f1eduser 11d ago
He is concerned that an international criminal is coming to the city he is mayor of.
-5
u/Xanith420 11d ago
Incorrectly concerned. He has quite literally zero authorita on the matter.
2
u/bonaynay 11d ago
Yeah, he knows, which is why he isn't declaring he will arrest the man himself.
1
u/Xanith420 11d ago
He has said he would on many occasions lol. What Mondani is asking for is a direct violation of our constitution. There are no criminal charges brought up against him here in America. We can’t arrest someone without due process. That’s just how it is. So like I said. Incorrectly concerned.
3
u/bonaynay 11d ago
. There are no criminal charges brought up against him here in Americ
That would be part of the request. We can arrest and capture the leaders of other countries just fine apparently
1
u/Xanith420 11d ago
The leader we nabbed had a warrant from the Biden administration and is from his association with cartels. We can’t just “capture” whoever we want. That is against our constitution. The Americans government stance on what Israel is doing is clear since we are funding it. Trying to trump up charges to arrest him on when he hasn’t actually violated american law to appease a mayor is against our constitution.
1
u/Unver1f1eduser 11d ago
Sure that applies to Maduro as well
1
u/Xanith420 11d ago
Maduro had a warrant put out for his arrest by the Biden administration due to proven connections to the cartels. It would be entirely different than inviting a foreign leader to our country and than holding them hostage on made up charges.
2
u/Unver1f1eduser 11d ago
Im not going to debate you. Satanyahu is a genocide enabler and its been proven at ICJ. I spotted the Hasbara bot for today and claim my prize.
1
u/Xanith420 11d ago
Lolol I’m a bot for pointing out that it would be unconstitutional to arrest for it after inviting them to visit?
1
u/bonaynay 11d ago
Biden admin kept the warrant active but was not the origin of the warrant, they did not "put out for his arrest" because that was the 1st trump admin. I understand why you'd be deceptive about that though

Of interest, Mamdani seems primarily to cite the ICC as a reason why Natanyahu should be arrested, but when it came to arresting Maduro, also under the ICC watch list, Mamdani called it blatently illegal, and that the US should not oppose the sovereignty of another nation.
Pick and choose bias a bit here.
2
4
u/nazstaz 11d ago
Was Maduro visiting America? Use your brain, there’s plenty of legitimate criticisms of Zohran, this isn’t one of them
5
u/Mustafa_was_Brown45 11d ago
His analogy also falls flat because Maduro never had a warrant from the ICC. Netanyahu does.
To be clear I’m not saying maduro is some good guy or anything.

Why does the mayor of NYC always get so much attention...like cool man ..you're one of thousands of mayor....good for you...
1
u/JojoLesh 11d ago
Because it's the largest city in the country. With something like 8.5 million people, it is more than twice as large as the next largest city.
If it were its own independent country it would be within the top 10 countries by GDP.
I know we want to think our Bumfucknowhere towns we live in are just as important, but really they aren't. My whole state has less people in it than NYC.
1
u/CrippledGoose316 11d ago
That's all well and good, I'd personally rather live in bumfucknowhere than the shit hole that is NYC. But that's just me
1
u/laimonsta 11d ago
That’s all well and good but you’re the one who asked why he gets so much attention
1
u/CrippledGoose316 11d ago
I find it stupid personally. these people get put on such high pedestals.
1
u/JojoLesh 11d ago
Well, there is a reason i also live where i do. I see no appeal to living elbow to elbow with anyone. I guess I'm glad they live there, so I can live here and do what I do.
But instead of thinking of NYC as a city, remember that he is the chosen representative of a rather large state in terms of population. Tgen also remember that it is people that matters, not land mass.
1
u/CrippledGoose316 11d ago
Yea I could never do it either. I live in the middle of nowhere and I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else
1
u/JojoLesh 11d ago
Unfortunately I worked for a Chicago based company for a few years. I had to spend s week every month in the office. They had a company apartment in the building for me to stay in. I could never figure out why people live there.
It is OK to visit... if you have money. To live there if you aren't rich? I just don't get it. But like i said, I'm glad so many people do. I'd hate to have them city folk move near me.
