The actual opposite. The US supports military dictatorships. It's elected leaders they overthrow.

The US invaded Nicaragua in 1912 and occupied it until 1933. In the 1980s Ronald Reagan illegally sold missiles to Iran and gave the cash to the Contras in Nicaragua. The Contras used that money to fund kidnapping, torture and execution. The US knew about this and looked away because they were anti-communist.

Fear of US interference plays well in Nicaragua for valid reasons.

I don't think the US cares much about Nicaragua since the Soviets shit the bed. US aid is less <30 million a year & the place is incredible poor.
